The Hero System - Chapter 41
Thankfully, Jacob didn’t recognize him earlier. He tried to stay as low-key as possible. It might be the mask’s ability at Level 8, or the hologram of the talisman wasn’t connected to Jacob consciousness. Either way, Jonah was able to escape.
“Little follow, you have struck fortune. I never took in disciples before, but judging the circumstances, I’ll make an exception for you!” Edward placed his right leg on his left and placed his hands on them and solemnly said. If Jonah wasn’t there earlier, he might really think that this was a hidden dragon among men, and he has really struck fortune by getting him to be his master.
However, Jonah knew the whole deal. Speechless at Edward’s shameless tactics, he turned around to leave the shop. He’d rather spend his time practicing his Spear Arts or talisman’s making.
“Eh? Wait! Wait! Where are you going?!” Edward panicked after he saw that his act was futile.
However, Jonah didn’t stop. He made his way through the bookshelves toward the door. If he wanted to take someone as a master, he’d choose anyone but this shameless guy!
“Wait little brother!” Edward’s arrogant front disappeared and the way he referred to Jonah changed. When he saw Jonah had no intention of staying, he reached his hand to his pocket.
[Ding! Spiritual barrier detected.]
Jonah received the notification as he reached the door. He knew it was Edward so he tried to reach his hand to the doorknob but he was obstructed by an invisible barrier.
“What are you trying to do?” Jonah glared at Edward.
“Just listen to what I have to say!” Edward had a helpless expression.
He didn’t think this youth would be this stubborn. After all, people who wanted to become Talisman masters would be overjoyed if they had someone to teach them.
However, it seems this youth has realized that he needed him to pursue his love. After all, he needs to have him participate in the tournament in three months. He can’t look for anyone else for several reasons. First, Jacob can cancel their bet if he did that. Even though it looked like he was the one at a pinch, he was rather glad that Jacob proposed such a bet. After all, Jacob didn’t need to give him such an opportunity. After his marriage to Rose, Edward wouldn’t be able to meet her because that would hurt her reputation. Thus, Jacob had no reason to accept such a bet. Second, he would lose face in front of Rose if he took someone else as an apprentice. Third, no one would take him as a master!
However, Edward didn’t know that the reason Jacob was quite rash this time also had something to do with the youth in front of him.
“Go ahead.” Jonah nodded. He waited for this.
After all, this shameless guy chased him out this morning. Furthermore, he needed him now to compete against Jacob’s apprentice
Jonah didn’t want to do that if he was given the chance. After all, he didn’t want to have too much contact with Jacob. However, he wouldn’t mind helping out if the conditions were good for him
Edward’s brows twitched as he knew what Jonah was thinking. “Then how about we discuss this over tea?”
“Sure!” Jonah smirked when he saw the different attitude Edward had now.
…
“Okay. So here are the following conditions. I’ll supply you with everything you need to practice. After our deal is over, I’ll start selling you talisman’s materials with a 50% discount. In return, you’d become my apprentice for three months and you will participate in the Talisman’s Tournament to rank better than Jacob’s apprentice. How is it?” Edward asked with a strange expression. Usually, it would be the apprentice who try to please their master to win their favor, but somehow, things are different with this youth
Jonah sipped from his tea cup and started to ponder it over. The conditions weren’t that bad. However, there was a slight problem
“I can’t stay here for three months. I’ll stay in Terra for a week, and I’ll go back to Earth afterward.” Jonah shook his head.
“Okay. For now, we can just make do with one week. Bring your things here tomorrow morning.” Edward massaged his glabella feeling a slight headache.
“Oh, I can’t do that either. I need to go hunting tomorrow.”
Edward went silent and gazed at Jonah. He started regretting this but he had no way to back out.
Feeling Edward’s gaze, Jonah embarrassedly scratched his head. “How about this, I’d go hunting during the day and study here at night. How does that sound?”
“Fine! Avoid having other plans!” Edward sighed and surrounded.
Afterwards, the two headed toward the management of Cultivators Paradise to register Jonah as a resident of Talisman’s God Hands shop. Thus, he wouldn’t need to scan every day.
Jonah left his practice materials in the shop and headed toward the courtyard. After informing the rest, they arranged to meet at the city’s east gate at 8 am tomorrow. It was still before noon so Jonah had a lot of time to practice Talismans’ making.
After packing his stuff, Jonah went back to the market. On the way, he gazed at the city’s buildings and sighed. It had been a week since he came to Terra but so many things happened. Going by Earth’s calendar, it was 2018, March 6. He had five more years before the disaster. And in only one week, he experienced life threats more than his whole life combined. It seems his life won’t be an easy one from now on. However, he was glad that he became stronger.
“Okay, this is your room.” Edward said as he opened the door. The room was plain and had a simple bed and a table. However, Jonah didn’t mind.
“Put your things here and follow me.” Edward said and left the room. Jonah put his suitcase on the bed and followed.
They then entered a study room. It was filled with books and a table. There was also a tea-set placed on a small table.
The building had two floors. The first was the shop and the storage room. The second had two bedrooms, a bathroom, and a study room. It wasn’t that big but it was good since Edward was still young.
“Okay. Take out your set.” Edward removed the books from the table and said.
Jonah took out the set he bought earlier this morning. It seems Edward would guide him directly without letting him read any books.
Jonah sat in the chair and took one yellow paper sheet. He then placed it on the table and dipped the brush in the ink. He was quite nervous as this was his first time making a talisman.
“Try drawing these markings starting from here.” Edward took out a Talisman’s illustration and pointed while saying.
“Wait, aren’t we going to have some classes before that? Like what are these markings and how talismans are made?” Jonah asked with confusion.
“That can wait. We need to make your first experience what it is like to make a talisman!” Edward said as he placed the talisman in front of Jonah.
Jonah can only study the markings on the talisman and try to imamate them. This talisman was for illustration purposes as it had many explanations of where to start and how to finish. Jonah placed his brush on the table and started drawing.
As you’d expect from a guy with no hobbies or artistic talents, Jonah’s talisman looked like cat’s scratching. However, even if a cat wanted to draw, it probably would have done a better job
Edward was stunned at how miserable Jonah was. He thought that this youth, at least, would have some talent since he wanted to self-study. However, it seems he was just over-thinking
