The Hero System - Chapter 44

“Okay everyone spread out!” Gorilla shouted and the rest followed his command.

Jonah dashed toward the front while Leo and Norlan took each side of the group. Yan and Sana stayed behind Gorilla and Jonah with Yan trying to sneak and Sana preparing her spell.

Jonah didn’t use ten needles this time, as the bees were harder to strike. He used five of them to increase the speed at which he launched them. He noticed that the less weight he lifted the better control he had over his needles. If he controlled one needle, he doubted the existence of someone, at the Fourth level and below, who can follow it with his eyes. He also noticed that the bigger the object, the more air resistance it would have, making it harder to move.

There were about 17 bees in the group, with each bee being one meter long and 50 centimeters wide. Jonah was sure that anyone who was afraid of bees would instantly piss himself or herself when they saw these monsters. After all, the bees were any person with insectophobia scariest nightmare.

“Jonah, how many can you take on?” Gorilla tightened his grip on the hammer and asked.

“Six at a time!” Jonah truthfully answered. After all, he can probably kill this group by himself if he wanted. However, that would be quite tiring as the bees were agile while flying around.

“Six” Gorilla couldn’t help but turn his head toward Jonah.

“Haha, then take the six on the right, I’ll cover the rest!” Gorilla laughed and his battle intent soared. His hammer also glowed with a gold light.

Jonah realized that Gorilla has probably learned some sort of battle skill judging by the golden light. He then shifted his gaze toward the rest of the bees and used his Foresight skill. He can clearly see their movements in the next 0.2 seconds as if they had after-shadows of their bodies. However, since he can see their movements before they did it, it was more like before shadow than an after one.

Jonah memorized each one’s location and bolted toward the group. The rest also didn’t delay and each took his position. Gorilla swung his hammer and three of the insects were instantly killed. Leo and Norlan kept the rest of the bees busy while Jonah and Gorilla handled some of them.

Jonah realized that this was Sana’s doing. Even though skills were hard to train for Energy Condensing cultivators, that didn’t mean none of them did it. Furthermore, Sana probably focused on learning support skills more than training her battle skills or physical stats.

Jonah’s needles darted toward penetrated the eyes of five bees while Jonah engaged with the sixth. Even though he can kill monsters with higher cultivation using his rare skill, that didn’t mean he can’t handle a Fourth Level monster by himself. After all, he got Evade, Foresight, and his Spear Arts!

Jonah thrust his spear toward the bees head. However, it used its durable mouthparts to deflect his attack. A cling sound resounded and Jonah took a step back. He was about to attack again when he saw the bee opening its mouth and a blue liquid started to gather in front of it.

“Jonah, careful! It’s poison!” Norlan warned as he shot another arrow taking a bee down.

The five needles Jonah used were stuck to the heads of the five dead bees. However, he didn’t take out the other five. Instead, he used his Telekinesis down the bees throat!

The bee let out an eerie cry as it shook its head. It seemed she was immune to her poison so Jonah had to step forward and attack himself. Using his spear, Jonah penetrated the bee’s head through its mouth!

He then turned around to continue fighting, but the others killed all the other bees already. He saw Yan taking her dagger of one of the bee’s head and clean it. Even though he felt her movement with his spiritual sense, he had no time to focus. Furthermore, her steps were light and noiseless.

“Okay, 83 to go!” Gorilla kept the bees into his spatial item and said.

Jonah realized that people from the sects were quite wealthy. After all, Gorilla was only an E-9 ranked in TSO but he had so many valuable items. It was obvious that his sect or his family were wealthy.

The group encountered another group of 23 bees half an hour later. Following the earlier strategy, the group hunted the bees down. Jonah killed 11 bees, which made the group speechless. The rest also felt slightly ashamed that a Third Level cultivator could take half of their kills. Thus, the rest also tried their best.

“Okay, 16 bees to go!” Gorilla said as he kept the seventh group of bees into his spatial item.

It had been 5 hours since the group started hunting and Jonah killed almost 40 of 84 bees! The rest were speechless at his efficiency.

Of course, aside from Leo, each one of the group can defeat Jonah in a 1 vs. 1 fight. However, his skill gave him a higher kill count! After all, none of them had six arms to fight with like Jonah His spear and his five needles would probably cause a trauma in the bees for the next few days.

However, they didn’t have it all easy. One time, they tried to sneak attack a bee group and they were spotted by one of them. Then, the whole group attacked them! This was a demonstration of one of the bees skills, Telepathy!

Everyone was annoyed by this skill since the bees teamwork would amplify because of it. Of course, there were exceptions like Jonah.

Sadly, the other party cannot really respond to his message unless they had the telepathy skill. Jonah tried to use it on one of the bees but it couldn’t understand what he was saying. This also means that there is the barrier of language. However, he was quite pleased with it if he ever needed it. The system only gave it to him after his 35th kill of the bees.

However, Jonah didn’t dare reveal this skill in front of others. First, he can’t be that talented. Second, anyone can relate this skill to the bees he just killed. This may lead to the discovery of the system.

“Oh, there’s a group heading our way!” Norlan, the one with the best eyesight, spotted a group of bees from far away.

The group was happy at first since that meant that they wouldn’t spend any more time searching. However, what Norlan said next froze them.

“Shit! There’s a queen with them!” Norlan eyes were wide open.

Jonah was confused until Gorilla explained. “We need to run! The queen is at least at the Ninth Level!” Gorilla had a serious expression as he put his hammer on his back and was about to run for it.

However, the queen seemed to target them specifically as it flew toward the group and its minions surrounded them before they can run. There were about 40 bees aside from the queen!
