The Hero System - Chapter 45

“Did we alert the beehive with our hunt? But that doesn’t make sense! We didn’t kill enough to alert the queen!” Yan raised her daggers.

“Either way, we need to make a run for it! If anyone makes it out, go to Lolo!” Gorilla dashed and swung his hammer! Five bees were instantly killed!

However, he didn’t run by himself. He turned around and shouted. “Leo, Jonah, go ahead! We’ll stall them!” Gorilla knew they couldn’t take down the queen by themselves. However, they wouldn’t be instantly killed!

Leo and Jonah and didn’t delay and bolted toward the gap in the encirclement. They knew how weak they’re far too well to actually try to fight back. Even though Jonah had confidence against the minions, the queen was a different story.

There two types of methods to advance in cultivation realms that Jonah knew. The first was absorbing the energy from the surrounding. The second was eating monsters! However, Jonah didn’t know what the latter’s requirements were.

He only knew one thing, their breakthrough is different! It was more like evolution than just breaking through their limits. Thus, He understood that being a Ninth Level was different between humans and beasts. Even if the group had a ninth Level cultivator amidst them, he wouldn’t be able to take on the queen.

Leo and Jonah dashed through the gap and were out of the encirclement. However, the minions’ telepathy skills showed their ability as they swiftly encircled them again. The queen didn’t attack yet and instead watched from outside the circle. The team gritted their teeth and were about to try to break through again when a humming sound resounded through the swamp.

Jonah’s vision twisted and colors appeared in front of him.

[Ding! Illusion spell has been cast on the user. Would you like to block it for 5 heroism points?]

‘Is it the Illusion Humming skill?’ Jonah had a bad feeling. ‘Block it!’

The bees rotated around the group as they hummed. Jonah dashed toward them trying to stop the spell. However, through his spiritual sense, he sensed an attack coming!

Cling!

Jonah blocked the attack with his needles and rolled on the ground using Evade. Luckily, he was barely able to avoid the attack. However, his heart shock when he realized that it was Gorilla who attacked him!

“Brother Gorilla, what are you doing?!” Jonah stood up and saw Gorilla lifting his hammer from the ground. However, Gorilla didn’t answer.

‘Is it the illusion?’ Jonah’s heart sank as he looked at the others. He saw the rest also fighting between them If this continues, then all of them would be dead!

Jonah’s ten needles hovered around him. He swiftly bolted toward the humming bees. Since they were circling them, the bees didn’t fly around and Jonah can shoot them down easily. His ten needles penetrated ten bees’ blue eyes killing them instantly. However, Jonah couldn’t take the needles out through Telekinesis as the weight increased due to the bees corpses holding the needles down.

When Jonah turned around, he saw his friends holding their heads. It seems that killing the ten bees weakened the spell as it broke the bees rhyme. However, just a moment of consciousness was enough for Jonah to convey his message.

“Stop attacking! You’re under an illusion making you attack each other instead of the bees!” Jonah shouted as he killed another bee.

However, he noticed that no one responded. It seems the spell is still too powerful for the others to hear his message. Jonah didn’t hesitate and used the latest skill he got, Telepathy!

The group flinched when they heard Jonah’s message in their heads. Luckily, they believed Jonah as they already knew that the bees have an illusion skill. Everyone stopped moving but they didn’t let go of their weapons. When they noticed, in their eyes, that the other bees also stopped, they knew Jonah was right. Since the ‘other bees’ stopped after Jonah’s message, it meant that they were fighting their friends instead of the bees.

Jonah sighed in relief that he was able to stop them. As he attacked another bee and killed it, he also took out another needle from the corpses. He couldn’t take them all out, but he can do it one by one if he focused his energy on one at a time.

Killing the 13th bee, Jonah was able to take out all of his needles from the corpses. Like earlier, he killed another ten bees! There were only 17 bees left of the original 40!

Jonah thrust his spear and killed the 24th! However, an eerie humming sound came from the queen!

[Higher level illusion spell has been cast on the user. Would you like to block it for 30 Heroism Points?]

‘Is this what a 5 levels difference can do?’ Jonah smiled bitterly. It seemed that the skill of the queen also evolved.

Jonah’s vision didn’t change and the queen attacked him! Jonah dodged but didn’t dare to attack. After all, he knew this queen can be one of his friends!

Mid-battle, Jonah noticed that the queen’s speed was faster than his. Since he can’t use his needles because they were stuck to the corpses, he might as well use his skill on his shoes!

Jonah’s speed had a tremendous increase when he used his telekinesis on his body. Even though he can’t lift himself in the air and fly, he can boost his speed by pushing his shoes forward with every step! It was like walking on water with the water helping you move forward!

However, his actions were futile as the queen let out another eerie cry! However, this time, Jonah’s vision turned black and he couldn’t hear anything! He felt his center of mass shift around as he consciousness begun to fade! Jonah didn’t even feel his body drop on the ground before he fainted.

“Ugh”

‘Where is this?’ Jonah opened his eyes but he couldn’t see anything. He tried to feel his surrounding but he was surrounded with a wall from every direction. He felt slight panic but he breathed in and out trying to calm down. Spreading his spiritual sense, he can feel that he was inside a compartment. Furthermore, there were other similar objects next to him.

‘Is this a cocoon?’ Jonah frowned.

‘System, map!’

A panel appeared in front of Jonah and he drew a sharp breath when he saw it. There were hundreds of red dots around him! Furthermore, he was in the middle of some sort of structure with a lot of compartments.

‘This is The Blue-Eyes Bees hive!’
