The Hero System - Chapter 46
Jonah’s heart beat faster as he started to panic. However, his panic originated from his fear. His fear, on the other hand, dispensed due to his resistance skill.
After he calmed down, he sent a rescue message to TSO. He didn’t know if the message would reach them, but he can only hope. However, that didn’t mean he would just wait. After all, he had no guarantee that they would rescue him.
‘Six cocoons It seems the rest are also imprisoned here what about our bags?’ Jonah narrowed his spiritual energy to the inside of the compartment. He can feel the other six but there were no bags or weapons near them. Jonah frowned as they were at a pinch.
Since the cocoon was too small, Jonah couldn’t break it open by punching it. However, he tried to push against its walls but no avail.
Helplessness aroused in Jonah’s heart. He didn’t have any items or skills to help them out. ‘If only I succeeded the previous quest’ Jonah’s thought began to scatter and he couldn’t focus. When a person was out of options, his thought drift to any possible hope.
‘System, how long have I been here?’
[The user has passed out for 3 hours.]
‘Three hours Therefore, they built these with only three hours. However, what is their purpose? Why the bees didn’t kill us till now, but hold us in?’
While Jonah was thinking, the system notified him.
[Warning: The user’s spiritual energy is declining. If this continues, the user would be dead in 24 hours.]
‘Declining?’ Jonah frowned and he immediately utilized his other rare skill, Spirit Tracking! He looked around the cocoon with his skill and he saw that spiritual energy leaked out of his body and traveled to the base of the cocoon
‘Holy fuck, are they milking me dry?’ He now realized why they kept them alive. However, he didn’t know why they would drain their spiritual energy. He didn’t notice it earlier because the amount was too little to be noticed.
[Ding! New Side-Quest: Escape the hive with the rest of the team. Reward: One rare-ranked Item. Due: 24 hours. Difficulty: Hard. Penalty: System shutdown.]
‘So basically, if I’m not out before I die, I fail? That’s rather obvious. But shutdown? That’s extreme!’ Jonah would find a way out regardless. However, the quest told him to escape with his friends. Thus, if he escaped alone, he would be penalized by losing the system. However, he didn’t object. After all, what sort of hero would leave his friends to die? Furthermore, he wasn’t in a situation that he would die in if he tried helping his friend. That’s why the system isn’t telling him to kill himself or lose the system.
Jonah opened his bracelet’s communication function and called Gorilla.
“J..oh, are y.o Beep.” Gorilla’s voice kept skipping and repeatedly cut off before the call dropped.
“Is this because of the energy draining? So the rescue signal never left this cocoon?” Jonah’s face fell.
“Brother Gorilla, can you hear me?” Jonah shouted and waited for a response that never arrived. It seemed that this cocoon was soundproof
Jonah didn’t hesitate to use his Telepathy skill. At most, he’d just say he learned it from the elves and at this point, there wouldn’t be any meaning to conceal this if all of them died.
‘Brother Gorilla, can you hear me? If you hear me, please release an object from your space into the room outside. We’re in the middle of the beehive and we’re in the middle of a chamber of some sort’ Jonah then kept describing the outside to Gorilla. He can see which cocoon Gorilla was in through his spiritual sense.
Silence.
Jonah’s heart drowned with despair. However, like the ray of hope at the end of the tunnel, a dagger appeared in the middle of the compartment!
This was Jonah’s plan. To use the space manipulation function to bypass the cocoons’ walls! With this, Jonah focused his energy on the dagger and it flew upward. Then, like a bolt of lightning, the dagger shot toward Jonah’s cocoon!
Cling!
The dagger collided with the cocoon shell and it only left a white mark, but no deep scratch. Jonah can feel this by using his Spiritual Sense, however, he didn’t give up and continued!
After the 20th attack, Jonah knew his attacks were futile. He tried to rest and think of another way. ‘A way out A way out’
“Brother Gorilla, do you have any Spirit Bombs or Talismans?’ Jonah’s eyes brightened when he thought of this.
Moments later, a talisman appeared in the chamber.
‘System, compare this with Talisman’s books.’ Jonah knew the system had a database from where he can retrieve information. Jonah skim-read the talisman’s books yesterday since he knew he can use the system to retrieve them.
[8th Grade Talisman: Fire-swords.]
Jonah lifted the talisman and placed it on Gorilla’s cocoon. If he would release someone, he might as well release the strongest. Even though Sana had a higher cultivation, Gorilla was the strongest in the physical attributes. However, it seemed that he couldn’t utilize his strength while being trapped inside.
‘Brother Gorilla, watch out! I’m going to use the Talisman on your cocoon!’ Jonah warned an infused his spiritual energy into the Talisman.
The talisman glowed and three fire swords began to materialize. The swords then flew toward Gorilla’s cocoon and collided with it!
BOOM!
The cocoon finally exploded revealing Gorilla’s huge body. “Hahaha, I’m out!” Gorilla leaped out and laughed.
He then took out another five talismans and used them to free the others. In a matter of seconds, everyone was out! Jonah thought that Gorilla didn’t have that many talismans, but he underestimated his wealth.
Now that Jonah looked around, it seemed that the cocoon and the hive are made of a yellow, waxy, durable material.
“I thought I would die” Norlan had cold sweat on his forehead as he sighed in relief. As a bow user, who had a good sense over his energy, he was the first to notice that their spiritual energy was being drained by the cocoon.
Of course, the others also felt this but they didn’t realize so soon. Of course, Leo was an exception as his spiritual energy sense and control was quite lacking.
“There’s obviously something behind their actions We need to get out!” Gorilla can feel there’s something strange about the bees this time.
The rest nodded and they equipped themselves with weapons. Yan and Gorilla were the only ones with spatial items and they provided everyone with weapons.
Jonah took two daggers from Yan to use them with telekinesis. He also took a spear from Gorilla although it was quite heavy. Jonah was sure now that people who belonged to families or sects were extravagant as fuck!
“Three bees to the left right is clear.” Norlan used a mirror to scout ahead.
“Jonah, can you handle it?” Gorilla looked at Jonah and asked. If there’s someone who can stealthily kill these bees without warning the others, that would be Jonah.
“No problem.” Jonah nodded. He then slowly started moving the two daggers toward the bees that were hovering around.
Whoooosh! Whoooosh!
Like two arrows, the daggers flew toward the bees killing them instantly. The third bee wanted to alert the others but Jonah used his telekinesis to dashed toward it and kill it!
“This is” Jonah turned to look into another room. Even though he used his Spiritual Sense earlier and knew there was a room, he only knew there weren’t any movements in it. Thus, he failed to realize there are other cocoons!
“There are people inside!”
