The Hero System - Chapter 48
“Hmph, no difference!” The handsome youth, who had a blonde hair and blue eyes, sneered and dashed toward the bees as he lifted his sword.
“Linus!” Olivia frowned.
Linus reached the bees and slashed at them, killing one instantly. However, the other two Purple-Eyes Bees were alerted and released a purple smoke from their mouths. Linus was caught off guard with the strange skill used a talisman that created wind currents to divert the smoke. However, his actions only led the smoke to spread faster.
“Careful! That smoke has corrosion properties!” Fatty warned with panic.
The group didn’t delay and they retreated to the previous floor. After the smoke started to drift away, they descended to the floor again. Linus stood next to corpsed of the purple eyes bees from earlier.
“What do you think you’re doing?” Jonah glared at Linus.
“What? You can’t handle a bit of smoke?” Linus sneered.
“That’s not the point. Putting us at risk just to save your own ass?”
“You!” Linus grabbed his sword tightly as he glared at Jonah. Jonah, on the other hand, raised a brow and grabbed his spear.
“Enough! Jonah, back down.” Gorilla ordered although he, too, was furious at Linus actions. However, he knew fighting between each other could be deadly.
“Linus. Don’t rush by yourself again!” Olivia coldly warned.
Both Jonah and Linus went silent before putting their weapons away. Each courtyard had a leader. The one who stayed at the courtyard the longest would be the one. If that person rank’s up to another courtyard, the person who came after him would be the leader.
If the leader committed a serious violation, or the members deemed him unfit, another member would be chosen instead of him. However, if a person violated the leader’s orders on a hunt, the leader can file a complaint and TSO would punish that person. Although this system was less strict than a military one, it was similar. After all, an organization can’t exist without the discipline of its members. Thus, even if they were angry, Jonah and Linus had to back down. After all, civilization still dominated them.
The type of person Jonah hated the most was the self-centered people who only cared about themselves. What he loathed, even more, were people who would harm others for their own well-being.
“Okay, Kim, lead the way.” Olivia turned toward Kim and ordered. Kim nodded and started leading the way, with the silent swordswoman guarding her.
Jonah found the latter quite odd, as she never said anything but kept guarding Kim. He felt that she only had one purpose, to protect Kim. However, that had nothing to do with him, so he didn’t ask.
“Another group of Purple-Eyes bees!” Norlan warned.
“That’s weird There shouldn’t be so many mutations!” Fatty furrowed his brows.
“Doesn’t matter. Jonah, let’s go!” Gorilla said and lifted his hammer.
This time, Linus simply stayed behind. His lips were curved upward as if he was mocking them, for losing his aid. Fatty took out a mace and followed the group from behind.
Only Ben and Olivia dashed with Jonah and Gorilla and surrounded the group of bees. There were five bees in total. Now that Jonah was closer, he found out that these bees not only had different skills but also bigger bodies.
Whooosh!
Each dagger flew toward the head of a bee before they can use their skills. However, these bees had better reflexes than the normal ones and they dodged the daggers by flying sideways.
However, Jonah had already foreseen this and thrust toward one of the bees. But he only wounded it as a result of his lower cultivation level and the bee being a mutated. Both daggers then flew toward the wound and penetrated it killing the bees.
[Ding! Mutated monster has been killed. +16 Experience points.]
One the side, Gorilla, and Olivia needed one strike to kill the bee. Ben and Fatty also took care of the one bees while Norlan and Yan killed the last. Leo supported the rest by distracting the bees while they fought.
Linus no longer had his mocking expression. He just realized that Jonah was at the third level but had no issues handling theses mutated bees. Furthermore, that spirit skill of his was also quite unique as he was only a third level cultivator. That means his potential and talent were top notch. He also started considering if he should ‘grace’ Jonah by inviting him to his family.
“Okay, advance!” Gorilla ordered. Olivia didn’t mind Gorilla being the leader as his group rescued hers.
There were only mutated bees on this floor and the group kept hunting. Although the bees were stronger, there wasn’t a huge difference between fighting the normal bees.
The group finally reached the next floor after two hours of walking. Jonah knew this was the ground floor where the entrance was located. However, the queen also resided here! He had already marked it with a red triangle on his map to identify her!
“Stop! The queen is on this floor” Kim nervously warned. When the others heard this, they also stopped and focused their senses to detect the queen’s aura.
“What should we do?” Fatty asked with sweat all over his chubby face.
“What about the rescue team?” Olivia asked Gorilla. The latter checked his bracelet but there were no updates from TSO until now.
“We should look for another place to escape from,” Sana added.
The rest also nodded. That would be the safer way to go about it. However, Kim detected another thing with her acute senses.
“The queen’s aura It’s changing!” Kim had a confused expression.
“Changing? That means She’s trying to evolve!” Fatty, who proved himself quite knowledgeable about this, concluded with a pale face.
The rest of the group were stunned, including Jonah. After all, the queen was a Ninth Level Energy Condensing Stage! If she evolved Then she’d reach the Energy Materialization Stage!
“So that’s why The queen actually hunted to absorb the spiritual energy to evolve!” Leo suddenly announced.
Realization struck the group as they were frozen. It all made sense now Why the queen would personally go hunting and collecting ‘resources’ She was actually collecting them to help her breakthrough!
