The Hero System - Chapter 5
Jonah was stunned. He looked at the clock, it was 07:33 PM. He opened the Quest menu to see what it is.
[Side-Quest: Rescue the beggar from the hooligans in the park. Reward: One Common Skill. Due: 15 Minutes. Difficulty: Normal.]
‘The park? So this beggar is in trouble?’ Jonah pondered if he should do it. Logically speaking, he was going to get beaten no matter what. However, he can’t just turn a blind eye now that he knows about it.
The difficulty for this quest was Normal. However, the school’s quest was only Easy. This is probably because he has to fight the hooligans. By this, Jonah concluded that skills have a higher value than items. Easy level quests only give items, Normal level quests give skills too. For now, that’s all Jonah knew.
He wore his jacket, put on his shoes, and walked toward the door. He didn’t forget to take the mask and hide it in his jacket. He can only wish he can scare them away.
“Jonah? Where are you going?” His mother asked.
“To get some fresh air. I was always indoor after getting discharged.” Jonah said as he walked out.
5 minutes later, Jonah reached the park. He still hasn’t worn the mask. No complicated reasons, just because it would be embarrassing as fuck.
“HAHAHA, another hit!”
“Oyy gotta leave us some fun!”
“Wow! Brother Corner is so awesome!”
When Jonah strolled through the park looking around, he heard some sounds coming from not so far away. He cautiously hid behind some bushes and walked over. He peeked at the group from afar.
There were four young men. Three guys and one girl. They held a bunch of pebbles in their hands. Not far from there lied a person covering his head.
Judging from his body frame and barely visible beard, Jonah could tell it was a middle-aged black man. There were a couple of pebbles lying near him, and some wounds covered the back of his palm.
‘These bunch of scums They’re actually throwing pebbles at the beggar!’ Angry with this, Jonah put on his mask. He wanted to scare them away at least. He also didn’t want himself to be targeted by them if they ever meet in the future.
When Jonah put on the mask, it naturally fit his face. Although it had only two eye sockets, Jonah felt that he didn’t even wear it. His vision was still the same not obstructed by anything else.
“Stop.”
With his hood covering his head and the mask covering his face, Jonah walked out of the bush. He stood in front of the old man and told the group.
The park turned silent. The hooligans had a ‘What the fuck’ expression as they looked at the person. They must admit that his mask was somewhat scary, coupled with the darkness of the night, they grew afraid of the person.
However, when they saw the person’s frame. Their fear was gone. He looked to be only a teen with a thin frame and weak body.
“Pfff! What the fuck are you trying to do? Play the hero? HAHAHA” One of the hooligans started laughing. He laughed so hard that Jonah felt his face going slightly red.
‘What the fuck, system? didn’t you say the mask would scare the villains?’
[It would. However, the effect will depend on the user’s level.]
Jonah almost facepalmed. He didn’t think it would this sort of restriction. However, he realized it would only be natural. If he can scare anyone, wouldn’t he be invincible?
“Young fella, no need to help me. Just walk away.” The beggar said to Jonah.
Jonah looked at his bruised face and grew angry. He so fucking wished to have a phone right now and call the cops. However, he was too poor to buy one.
Jonah had many ideas to handle the quest. One, call the cops. Two, set a timer with cops sirens sound as an alarm ringtone. Three, take pictures of the group and the record the scene. Then threaten the group of hooligans before running away.
However, all of them required a phone!
And in the end, the system wanted him to help people. He was growing him to become a hero, so he doubted that it would give him any rewards if he just called the cops from home.
“Leave or you’ll regret it.” Jonah shifted his gaze toward the group and said bluffing.
“Tsk, so fucking annoying!” The first to laugh earlier raised his hand and threw a pebble at Jonah’s head.
Normally, Jonah would have no way to evade this. However, with his increased intelligence and spirit, his visions was enhanced greatly. He slightly tilted his head and the pebble grazed past him.
When the group saw this, they were dumbstruck. Was this guy even human? However, their annoyance grew even more with how cool he acted.
“Damn brats need to fucking know their place!” The hooligan said as he rushed toward Jonah and threw a horizontal punch.
With Jonah’s physiques, if he got hit by this punch, he would fall unconscious. Thus, he didn’t dare to take the hit. He ducked and the punch landed on empty air.
The hooligan didn’t stop after this. With his other hand, he punched from downwards toward Jonah’s chin. With how Jonah evaded the punch earlier, he couldn’t evade this one just like before.
Jonah dropped to his knees and the punch grazed his hood, revealing his black hair.
The hooligan was sure that Jonah was just a fool when he saw this. He raised his knee and toward Jonah’s face to kick him.
Even though Jonah’s vision was enhanced, his body didn’t respond like he wanted. This was due to the difference in attributes.
Still, Jonah managed to find a way to beat this guy. He threw himself to the side and send a horizontal low kick toward the hooligan’s foot.
The hooligan only had his foot supporting his body, so when Jonah kicked him, he flipped and was flung midair and fell to the ground.
Because of how unprepared he was, his head struck the ground and he fainted.
[Ding! Heroic act was done. +2 Experience Points.]
When the group saw this, they were dumbstruck. Jonah’s way of fighting, his mask, and how he moved were all too bizarre. However, he still managed to evade every hit and beat their friend.
“Brother Corner!” The girl rushed to the hooligan and shook his body to wake him up.
“You damn brat! You’ll pay for this! You two, why are you standing there? Beat him!” The young woman yelled as she pointed at Jonah.
The other two glanced at each other. They really didn’t want to fight this guy, it was not worth it. First, his mask was scary. Second, Corner was the strongest among them, so they’re just asking to get beaten up.
“Forget it. Let’s take Corner and go.” One of them shook his head and went to Corner and picked him up. The two then left the scene with the girl trailing behind.
[Ding! Quest completed. Do you like to receive your reward?] The system said.
Jonah finally sighed in relief. If the other two fought him just now, they’d beat him 100%. Because his body didn’t cope with his brain, he pushed himself to the limit and was exhausted.
However, he didn’t receive the reward now. He took the beggar to the convince store and bought him some first aid tools. The beggar thanked him warmly over and over again.
With this, Jonah returned home ending his adventure for the day.
Idk about you guys, but I’m starting to like this novel haha.
