The Hunter - Chapter 20 Scarlett's though
Although Sally still talking some words again, Scarlett’s mind already somewhere else and can’t hear what Sally talking about. Since Scarlett no longer respond to her words, with a ‘humph’ Sally left Scarlett alone on her desk.
Well, currently Scarlett’s mind is full with many questions, like ‘is he really her secret boyfriend’, ‘how they know to each other’, why she looks so happy with Reid’, unfortunately, there’re no answers for those questions.
Thinking too much without having any answer only makes Scarlett depressed. Since her work time already over, she decides to return to her apartment. Still, during her way homes, those questions keep haunting her. To change her mood, Scarlett turns the radio in her car on.The radio station is currently playing the song from the old time. Start with a piano sound, the song fills Scarlett’s car cabin…
—
Oh how wrong can you be?
Oh to fall in love was my very first mistake
How was I to know I was far too much in love to see?
Oh jealousy look at me now
Jealousy you got me somehow
You gave me no warning
Took me by surprise
Jealousy you led me on
You couldn’t lose you couldn’t fail
You had suspicion on my trail
—
Scarlett frowned when hearing this song.
“What?? Now even the radio is mocking me?”
Scarlett twists the searching button to search for another station. Another song with fast beat played in the other radio station. Scarlett tapped her finger in the steering wheel following the tune.
—-
Tomorrow we can drive around this town
And let the cops chase us around
The past is gone but something might be found
To take its place… Hey jealousy
And you can trust me not to think
And not to sleep around
If you don’t expect too much from me
You might not be let down
—-
“What?? Not again, please? Why those radio station playing the song with jealousy theme?”
Furiously, Scarlett turns off the radio in the end, and back to her thought again.
“Am I really jealous with that girl?”
Scarlett muttered lowly.
“But seeing her holding Reid’s hand makes me uncomfortable…is that…I really start to like Reid?”
Scarlett almost smacks her head to the steering wheel.
“No…no…no way. I only met him once and he’s younger than me”
Scarlett tries to make a denial excuse to her feeling
“But….people said ‘love is blind’, if someone really loves a person, he or she will not see the age differences”
These contradictive thoughts keep crossing Scarlett’s mind until she arrives at her apartment. When she opens her apartment’s door, only an empty room is welcoming her. This makes her recalled the image when that young girl arrives at the orphanage and Reid open the door for her. Scarlett’s imagination gets wilder as she starts imagining what if Reid is the one who welcomed her when she returns from her office. Not just hold her hand but kiss her and give her a welcome hug.
A horn sound from the car that passing the street near Scarlett’s apartment, brings Scarlett back to reality. She realizes that she standing in front of her apartment room with the door open.
“Sigh…what happened to me?”
While taking a deep breath Scarlett enter her apartment, put off her shoes, put her briefcase on the nearby table, and goes to the kitchen to fetch a glass of water. While drinking that water, Scarlett is thinking again.
“Why I’m acting like this today? This isn’t like me at all”
After finished her glass of water, Scarlett goes to the bathroom. She fills the bathtub with warm water, and while waiting for the tub filled with water, Scarlett takes off her clothes and take a look of her body in front of a mirror.
“I’m not ages yet, right? There is not even a wrinkle on my forehead or my eyes. My body also not bad, there’re no excessive fats on my belly or my thigh. I should not feel inferior to that girl”
Without she realize, Scarlett already starts a competition between her and that young girl, Mary Elizabeth Thorpe, over a young man named Reid.
