The Idol’s Wife - Chapter 321
The President was in his office, looking through the window towards the city lights below. He was lost in his own thoughts as he waited for the days to pass by. There were only five days left until the final showdown after which Kwon Jiwon would finally come to him on his own terms.
The very thought of Kwon Jiwon being alive for so many years made his blood boil. The legacy of Sia, the woman who betrayed him. He had loved her with all his heart. Her arrival was a boon for him and he gave up his whole life for her. She was his everything and the President had never felt that way for another woman. Her wit, her beauty and her charm, everything enticed him. He had killed his own son under her command without any hesitation.
But the bitch betrayed him and even burnt his face in retaliation. He still recalled the crazed look she had when she doused him with fire. There was not a single ounce of mercy in her for the man who had loved her. All she knew was revenge.
“You have destroyed me, Sia,” he whispered. The memories of that night haunted him to this day, etched into his very being. The woman’s offspring still lived and he wanted nothing more than to destroy it.
The door to his office opened and Junhyung walked in.
“You have summoned me,” Junhyung said, bowing down.
“How are the plans going for next week’s party?” The President asked quietly.
“We are operating in secrecy,” Junhyun stated. “Their informers are already dead and we have stopped all information from leaking out.”
“That won’t do,” the President said. “They need to know some of our information.”
Junhyung frowned. “But sir, if they know about our plans then they’ll stop us!” he protested.
“They will know what we want them to know,” the President pointed out. “In the next meeting, bring Songil.”
“Songil?” Junhyung asked. “Wasn’t he Ziko’s man? Why him?”
“He’s going to play a very crucial role in our next step,” the President replied. His burnt black lips curved into what Junhyung could perceive to be a cold smirk which ran a chill down his spine.
“Understood,” Junhyung said. “I will call him to the next meeting.”
The President nodded and dismissed him before returning his attention to the window. The lights below were shining brightly. No doubt the people of the city were merrily minding their own businesses, busy engrossed in their own jobs. The horrors of the past had not maligned their hopes and dreams. If only they knew the bloods which stained the streets from the bloody battle he had fought with the other gangs in order to reach the top.
Because if they did, the city would never be happy again.
….
Mirae was purring in content while KJ’s arms were locked around her. They were cuddling by the fireplace in their room. Winter had arrived and it was chilly outside so KJ laid out a cozy spot for them in front of their fireplace for Mirae to relax. She was craving for pears so KJ had the cook bring three crates of pears for her.
She was straddling on him, her back against his chest, playing with his fingers while their feet were entangled with each other.
“When is Hyun Jung going to pop the question?” she asked, lazily stroking his toe with hers. “Somi’s imagination is going awry thinking about how many women flirt with him.”
“He’s planning for tomorrow,” KJ sighed. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen him this nervous. I know they were engaged before but that was years ago. He’s afraid of her rejection.”
“She won’t reject him,” Mirae said. “She loves him a lot and I know my best friend. Even though she was apprehensive of this relationship because of what she had gone through, I think Somi is going to move forward. Her love for Hyun Jung is strong. She’ll say yes.”
“I hope so,” he said. “Hyun Jung is happy and I don’t want him to be crushed again. When he was first engaged to her, I never got the chance to meet her because of my schedule so all this time, I had no idea who his first love was. I was shocked to know it’s Somi. I wonder how they met.”
“I remember Somi telling me that she met him when she was an aspiring model,” Mirae recounted. “She was stranded on the road without any transport and Hyun Jung, being a responsible cop, gave her a lift. In the car, she was chatting nonstop with him. She thinks it may have annoyed him a lot but she was attracted to him. So the next day, she went to his precinct and forced him to go to lunch with her.”
“Wow, Somi was bold,” KJ complimented.
“She was! Hyun Jung wasn’t an easy person to win over so she had to try every hook and crook,” Mirae snickered. “She even waited outside his apartment every morning only to get an excuse to go jogging with him when he came out. I think he also got attracted to her that way. I mean come on! She is Somi! The Nation’s True Love! Who wouldn’t fall in love with her?”
“We used to think of her as an annoying brat,” KJ winced.
“That was just her fake persona she had to create as a member of Abyss,” Mirae giggled. “Trust me, no one hated that cutesy image more than Somi herself.”
“I can tell,” KJ remarked. It was still remarkable to him that two people with such different personalities and belonging to two separate worlds somehow managed to fall in love.
“It’s so weird to think that Hyun Jung is going to marry Somi,” he said out loud. “In a good way of course,” he added hurriedly when Mirae turned to frown at him. “It’s just that, he’s a cop and she’s a top star. This is like a fictional story.”
“With a lot of bumps,” Mirae said. “But I’m also afraid…”
She did not elaborate much but KJ knew what she was thinking of.
“You’re afraid that the Cartel will do something next week at their engagement party,” he guessed.
“Yeah,” she nodded. “KJ, we haven’t told anyone of my pregnancy in case the information gets leaked. But we can’t hide it for long. Moreover, if they do something next week to harm you or me, how are we going to escape this time? And it’s going to be Hyun Jung and Somi’s moment! I don’t want my best friend’s night to get ruined by them!”
“Have faith in me,” KJ said firmly. “The Cartel will not be able to harm us.”
“How can you be so sure?” she questioned him.
KJ kissed her shoulder and hugged her tighter. “Trust me,” he reassured her. “I know what to do. This time, they’ll know what we want them to know. We’ll be the one calling the shots. I won’t let them harm you nor ruin Hyun Jung and Somi’s moment.”
Mirae turned around and hugged him but she was still afraid. Her heart was heavy with an ominous feeling which was hard to get rid of.
Please keep all of us safe, she prayed.
