……
The next few days passed in a blink of an eye. Before they knew it, the day of the anniversary had arrived and everyone at Mystic Entertainment held their breath. For months, they had planned for the grand celebrations, inviting the prominent personalities from all over the country. From high profile celebrities to the politicians, every VIP was going to attend the most anticipated party of the year.
Not a stone was kept unturned to keep the party magnificent. The stars were not shining in the sky but had appeared on the ground. The cars lined up in front of the large mansion the agency had hired for the party.
A long red carpet was laid out from the front gate to the mansion’s elegant doorway. It was a Victorian styled mansion with tall towers reminiscing of the English aristocratic architecture. The walls were freshly painted and gardens trimmed to perfection for the guests who were pouring into the mansion. They were the society’s elites, untouchable by status and power.
The reporters crowding outside were awed by the star power. The beautiful ladies were wearing colorful, fashionable gowns while the gentlemen were in dapper suits of exclusive designer brands. They were posing freely for the camera, exuding their natural charms. The lineup of so many strikingly beautiful people were enough to make any person jealous. Their shiny jewelries and haughty demeanor made them a class apart from the rest of the world.
“Isn’t that Shin Jiyoon, the diva of the country?” one reported whispered. “And is that…is that Lim Micah? The newest heartthrob?”
“This isn’t an ordinary party,” another reporter whispered. “This is an elegant madness here.”
They whispered among themselves, starstruck by the celebrities who were in front of them. The security around them was very tight and no one could approach them. They were being led to the main hall which was a treat on its own.
Hung from the ceiling was a large, dome sized chandelier which illuminated bright golden lights throughout the room. There was a fountain in the middle of the room which was adorned with mini statues of nymphets pouring the water from their stone jars. The entire hall was circular in shape and spacious. Large portraits of Mystic Entertainment’s artists were hung on the walls, with short descriptions of their contribution to the company. The largest one was of EXOTIC’s poster from their early days, showing all the four members.
“They still used Ash Park’s image,” one of the celebrities scoffed.
“They had to,” another actor replied. “He might have been involved in shady stuff but he was still a part of the group. You can’t erase history.”
The servers dressed in full black suits were walking around with canapes on the trays, offering them to the guests while EXOTIC’s songs played in the background. The guests were busy socializing and gossiping, unaware of the slim figure who had just walked in.
Sunye looked a little nervous. She wore a full sleeved black sequin gown with a long slit from the waist to the bottom and matched it with stilettos. Her hair was tied into a loose bun and with minimal makeup, she looked as stunning as the stars around her. But she was not there to socialize with them.
Quietly making her way across the hall, she walked towards the back kitchen. The passing staff slightly bowed at her but other than that, paid no heed to her as they were busy serving other guests. Sunye headed straight for the bas.e.m.e.nt which spiraled downstairs.
The bas.e.m.e.nt was dark so she turned on the torch on her phone and scanned the room. It was not so dusty but rather damp. She lifted the helms of her gown and tiptoed towards a door at the back which had been kept unguarded on purpose. Grabbing the knob, she had to turn it quite a few times before it clicked open.
“I thought you forgot about me.”
SD’s sly voice came from behind the door making Sunye groan. Behind the door was a chimney through which he had climbed down and waited in the unlit furnace until Sunye arrived. His eyes widened seeing her in the black gown and he let out a low whistle.
“Ms. Lawyer looking s.e.xy,” he teased. Sunye glared at him.
“If you’re done harassing me, then I believe you have a job to finish,” she said coolly.
“Relax, sweetheart,” he snickered. “It was just a compliment.”
“You don’t give compliments, SD,” she retorted. “People have to buy them from you. I know very well that even a small compliment from you can be costly and deadly.”
SD merely smirked. He was holding a backpack which he took off his shoulders. Grabbing a server’s uniform from it, he began to take off his shirt. Sunye’s face turned red and she quickly turned away.
“What the hell are you doing?” she screeched.
“Changing,” he shrugged, taking off his pants.
“You could have waited until I left!” she exclaimed, feeling outraged.
“What’s the point?” he asked. “You’ve seen it all anyway.”
Sunye was about to lose her mind. This man would never let her forget that awful mistake she had made in the past and even though she tried to think of it as an accidental one night stand, SD kept on bringing up their encounter. If she had known the handsome stranger she picked up from the bar was one of the most dangerous men in the country, she would have slapped herself and put on a chastity belt for the rest of her life.
“I’m going back to the party,” she hissed. “You better hurry up and do your job before KJ and Mirae execute their plan!”
“Say pleeease,” SD said in a sing-song voice.
Sunye calmed herself down, trying not to lose her cool. “Please,” she added.
Without waiting for his next words, she quickly darted off, leaving him in the dark bas.e.m.e.nt. SD watched her leaving, not bothering to tease her any further. He put on the uniform and fixed his appearance before heading out of the room. He deliberately left the secret corridor open. The Cartel’s men would no doubt sneak in through the chimney like he did but as per his information, they would sneak in after four hours when Kwon Jiwon will give a speech to commemorate the celebrations.
But something was unsettling SD. As he casually stepped on to the corridor, he could not help but wonder about the gap in his information. For the first time in his life, he was questioning his data and it was beginning to annoy him.
“What is the President really planning?” he wondered out loud.
All he knew was that whatever it was, if they did not find out on time, the celebrations would turn into a bloodbath.
