The Indescribable Diary - Chapter 30
I remember that I had martial arts skills… Yup, 70 points of martial arts. I specifically chose the martial arts skill for my shotgun flying kick. This way, I can attack with the Tai Sword too.
With a pistol and a Tai Sword, Yu Yi felt like he could change his occupation to become a demon hunter or perhaps an old hunter.
Opening the game shop, Yu Yi gritted his teeth and put in a sum of money for the in-app purchase. He didn’t have any left now, but that wasn’t that big of a deal. Later, he would ask his rich group of friends to help him out. Since he knew that disaster was impending in the game, he definitely needed to prepare himself. He had originally planned to loiter around and backstab one of his teammates for fun. However, there was no way he could do that!
“Although I’m a COC player, items from DND and Infinite TPRG games should be more effective now. The Holy Grail game was definitely fun, but there’s so few practical items. And I’ve got no idea why people liked to play Gensokyo games. But…”
Since failed COC games might occur in real life, there might be the possibility of other games appearing in real life too. DND was not too bad. It was a world of Dragons and Dungeons, sword and magic. Infinite was not bad either. There were infinite possibilities in these games, but the rules tended to vary. The similarity was that all the games shared the Infinite Terror plot. Players would complete all kinds of dangerous instance missions in exchange for rewards. Holy Grail games, however, were more troublesome. The items from Holy Grail games were often of inexplicable origin.
Items from COC games were a lot more interesting. All items had negative effects. Sometimes, these effects negate the advantages of the item itself, and maybe even cause horrifying consequences. So, one would usually be advised against using these items.
Items available for purchase were expensive in the game too. Furthermore, they only included decorative items and props, which were essentially useless apart from aesthetics. For example, Yu Yi could pay for in-app purchases to change the appearance of his pistol and Tai Sword. There was no real need to customize the Tai Sword anyway. It was already beautiful enough. Any more decorations would seem excessive.
“Let’s try to draw an Infinite item… There’s more items from Infinite, so there’ll definitely be more usable ones.”
If one bought in-app purchases for a lucky draw, the best choice would be to draw prizes from Infinite. The prize pool of Infinite was much bigger, with most items not having any sort of side-effects. These items were much better than COC items. Although, one could get the famed shining Tetragonal Trisoctahedron from COC… but that would probably cause the entire team to be wiped out.
After opening the Infinite store, all the purchasable items were clothes and decorations. Although there were useful props, those were incredibly expensive. Although there were guns too, the prices were incredible! How was an AK rifle worth 4000 dollars? In real life, I could’ve bought so many AK rifles with 4000 dollars! And there wasn’t any free ammunition! This was insane!
Yu Yi felt the need to criticise the store, even though it wasn’t his first time here. But then again, although the props were expensive, the lucky draw was only 1000 dollars. However, some of the items were labelled with a drop rate of 0.007%, which was kind of scary. Anyway, posture cards and skill cards were only attainable via lucky draw and player trade, while player-tradeable cards were often available for one-time use in instance missions. In the strategic introduction of the game, there was an extremely small chance of getting permanent skill cards and posture cards.
Originally, Yu Yi would never pay more than 6 dollars to buy any in-game items, apart from the first-time payment. The items were so expensive that they might as well have robbed him. However, the consequences of failure were grave. Yu Yi calmed down and put in the last ten thousand dollars he had for the in-app purchase. Although he could only draw 10 items with this sum of money, it was better than buying a few useless and way-too-expensive items.
[A one-time top-up of ten thousand dollars or more guarantees a single-use item for free.]
Although Yu Yi had little hope in his luck and had nothing specific to purchase, Yu Yi opted for the lucky draw. In the worst case scenario, he would simply borrow some money from Juzi and Huahua. Of course, he wouldn’t need to return the money. As a max-stat player, he could do anything he wanted if he had the money.
He pulled down the menu and opened the lucky draw tab.
There were two lucky draw windows. One indicated the item, while the other indicated the quantity. The lowest quantity was 10, while the maximum was infinite. However, they could only be used three times per game.
“Let’s draw.”
Pulling down the lucky draw level, the prize pool began to scramble. After a dazzling moment, the needle pointed to a bottle of pills.
[SCP-500-1: Although this is a replica with weaker effects, it is more than enough to save your life. After usage, it will remove three negative effects randomly, with a 30+% chance of regrowing a lost limb. 1% chance of restoring all health. A luck check will occur after usage. Success recovers a sanity value of 1D10, while failure deducts 1D3 points of sanity value. After usage, there will be a temporary boost of 1 willpower point.]
[Number of available uses: 15]
“Oh… SCP… but is it really okay to change the all-curing medicine into this?” Yu Yi glanced at the original product beside the SCP-500-1. A little bit more and he would’ve gotten the SCP-500. The 500-1 could be produced in bulk, but the 500 was quite rare.
Although its quantity wasn’t the lowest possible of 10, it was close enough at 15. If only if he could’ve drawn an infinite quantity, then he would need to show no restraint. If there really was an infinite version, then it would be invaluable. Actually, it seemed like any permanent skill would be worth an insane amount of money.
With the free item drawn, it was time for the real thing.
Looking at the Infinite prize pool, Yu Yi decided to challenge the European border. What if he managed to make his way across?
[One-draw, Ten-draws, Hundred-draws]
He clicked the ten-draws option without hesitation. Although every single draw cost ten thousand dollars, there was the possibility of drawing some real treasures.
After clicking the confirmation button, the prize pool began to spin. Items such as clothes, shoes, a pistol labelled with a question mark, an earring, a one-time use audiomonitor, more clothes, a one-time use item named the Tree of Vientiane, as well as numerous cards flashed before his eyes. They just didn’t know if these were permanent cards.
After ignoring the decorations and clothes, Yu Yi took out the three items he got.
The first was the pistol with a question mark.
[Pistol???: Before I reveal this mystery, you must first pay —- a well-made pistol.]
What, did you think this was a Purple Hamster card?
The one-time use Tree of Vientiane seemed to be a SCP too, with the ability to duplicate items. It looked like it could duplicate four items at one go.
Then there was the card with a question mark.
[Posture???: Before I reveal this mystery, you must first show me your value — here are four magical firearms that are immune to damage, as well as limited edition pistols and SMGs.]
“I feel like I’ve been tricked…”
Yu Yi drew the M1911 pistol, which hadn’t really been used before. This was a new, precision-made gun, which matched the criteria for the pistol item.
When the card adhered itself to the pistol, the M1911 disappeared. The card with the question mark disappeared as well. In its place was a beautiful blue pistol.
[To my dearest lover, I hope our happiness continues forever till death does us apart…]
[Blue Lover: This is a magical firearm. It will never be destroyed, so you do not have to worry about it misfiring. Every attack would use up your magical power or bullets, which would cause varying damage. The rest of the effects would be triggered when combined with the Red Lover.]
“So this was a trick after all! Were you planning this, KP?!”
First an unbreakable magical firearm, then a one-time item that could duplicate other items, and then a posture card that can only be unlocked after sacrificing four unbreakable magical firearms. I see the ending now! The final card would definitely be a one-time use card, right? All this for nothing! Or.. was it?”
All of a sudden, he recalled that the Tree of Vientiane could duplicate four items instead of one… which meant that inclusive of the original item, Yu Yi would still have a pistol even after sacrificing four pistols.
After using the Tree of Vientiane, Yu Yi sighed as he looked at his precious item disappear before his eyes. Four blue pistols took its place. Yu Yi pasted the posture card on the pistols. Subsequently, the pistol dissolved, and the question mark on the card disappeared.
[Posture. Bayonetta Sorceress: A strange posture that allows one to attach weapons to all four limbs to attack his enemies. When using firearms, damage can be multiplied by four after one luck check. If used with martial arts, there will be a further 2x multiplier.]
[After attaining this posture card, one only needs the Dark Demon Eye or any Contract Creature with strength equal or larger than Madame Butterfly to become stronger. Although I’m not sure if you can be a Hunter Angel Sorceress, you can definitely become a Hunter Angel ♂ Sorcerer.]
“…”
Yu Yi was speechless as he looked at the posture card. It seemed like the Infinite prize pool deserved its fame. Although the item was of infinite use and looked pretty strong, it was just so… where would he even get four weapons? He didn’t have an angel’s voice or Teacher Rodin! There was one Contract Creature that was stronger than Madame Butterfly, but it seemed like his Boss.
[Oh, seems like you got a pretty good item. That just increases my desire to tear your card, even if it won’t affect your item. Hunter Angel ♂ Sorcerer is such a good name…] KP appeared out of nowhere and sneered. It seemed like its emotional module was reinstalled.
“KP… the way you’re speaking, you sound like you’re speaking from the sunset.”
