The Indescribable Diary - Chapter 34
“So, straight to the church ruins?”
The ruins covered quite a large area, which was surrounded by dilapidated and broken streets. Moving forward was difficult. Weeds and rocks were scattered across the ground. Every step required caution for fear of stepping on some sharp object. Looking at the massive map of the ruins, Huahua was slightly confused.
“Only the church is worth exploring here. If we had to explore the entire region, we would have to waste quite a bit of time. Apart from the church, we could take a look at the stadium ruins over there. And the watchtower too.”
Huahua pointed at the labels on the map.
“Why not just suggest for us to make a trip to every single place?”
Yu Yi said helplessly, “Let’s just go to the church and return. We should come back for a more thorough search when everyone’s here tomorrow.”
After spending some time entering the church zone, they realised that the materials used to build the church remained steadfast. Despite having to go through all kinds of disasters and withstanding the test of time, the church remained stable and upright. It was one of the only buildings still left standing in the ruins.
The door made a creaking sound as it was pushed open. A foul smell of mildew and some sort of stench met them. The two walked into the church, disturbing the resting dust. Yu Yi looked at the ground before looking at the other items in the room.
“KP, I want to Inspect the interior of the church.”
[. rd =87, Failure.]
That was so close! He almost sustained a massive failure! Yu Yi took in a deep breath before looking at Huahua.
“KP, I want to play an Inspection.”
Huahua, who was watching out for Yu Yi, began observing her surroundings. Obviously, Huahua’s luck was much better than Yu Yi’s. Her Inspection passed at 37 points. Soon, she brought Yu Yi to a relatively safe corner before saying, “There’s very little dust here, so it looks like there’s been people here. That strange smell is definitely questionable. We seemed to have chosen a good place.”
“My instincts have always been very accurate.”
The game duration often varied. Most games began with a duration of a few days, with the majority of the time spent on inspection. However, for this specific game, given everyone’s ridiculous ideas and inspection abilities, one would never know. The game might last several days longer or the game might end tomorrow. Who could tell?
Gradually, they entered the church. Around them were broken wooden chairs with a massive painting hanging above the maroon-colored carpet. A twisted-looking deity was depicted. Not the normal Christian cross. Juzi had discovered the people here were neither Christian nor Catholic. Instead, they worshipped some other form of religion.
The idol was a monster that stood in a strange posture. Although it was humanoid, the tentacles and strange eyes showed that there was no way it was a real God. It could even be some form of demon… However, that didn’t matter. They already knew that it was a cult built by radicals. They definitely worshipped the Great Old One or some form of Outer God.
“Daocao, something’s off!”
Just as Yu Yi was observing the deity that emanated evil and bizarreness, Huahua’s voice broke Yu Yi’s train of thought. However, it was a good thing for Huahua to intercept his thoughts as Yu Yi was almost entranced by the painting. Damn! That was a near miss! He almost sank into the painting! This was a trick! If not for Huahua, Yu Yi would have to go through the trifecta of checks: Inspiration, Willpower, and SC!
“What’s so strange?”
Yu Yi no longer looked at the odd painting and turned to look at Huahua.
“Look there.” Huahua pointed towards the walls ahead of her. There were two twisted Pentalight Stars, which were engraved into the plaster. They found their target–the mysterious, unknown engraving.
Huahua climbed up nimbly and gouged out the two engravings with her dagger. She landed on the ground lightly with the engravings on her hands, which looked different.
“There’s some words etched on these in Latin… could you read them?”
Yu Yi glared at Huahua. If I knew Latin, I would’ve read King Huang Yi! And this thing…
With the engravings in hand, Yu Yi observed them repeatedly before flipping his hands forward. From the side, he saw the Latin etched onto the engravings.
[Sacrificium.Deo.Omni-potentis——Yog-Sothoth]
“Damn… let’s go! We’ve lucked out!”
Yu Yi was stunned and immediately kept away the engraving. He grabbed Huahua and began walking back.
“What happened?”
“That font, and that name… even if I didn’t know Latin, I would know that it’s Yogg’s name!”
So this was a missionary that worshipped Yogg! But Yogg missionaries usually weren’t so active! The alchemists of Yogg usually acted in pursuit of knowledge. If they didn’t cause any trouble, why would they be expelled? Something was obviously wrong! The groups that caused trouble had to be the local mafias! Damn! They thought they were going up against cult believers, but they didn’t expect themselves to be on the evil side!
All of a sudden, Yu Yi realised something was wrong as he answered Huahua’s question. He had a feeling of being watched as the space around him began to twist. Everything was burning, as though they had entered an alternate world. If Yu Yi didn’t know immediately what was happening, then he was a dead man! The KP was about to make a huge move!
“Run!!”
At this juncture, the only option was to run as fast as they could! At the same time, Yu Yi grabbed his pistol and readied himself for battle. The scorching sensation increased in, as though something was sucking the life out of them.
[. rd=51, Intelligence check x5, passed]
As they were escaping, KP rolled a hidden dice. Simultaneously, Yu Yi detached the odd smell. It was the smell of ozone!
I was wondering why this shitty KP had allowed us to bring our own guns and purchase ammunition! So this was the reason! This was such a huge move! This was like opening the doors and letting the dogs out on them!
Yu Yi instantly knew the reason why the game allowed guns and explosives when he sniffed ozone. All those things were useless here! There really were creatures in the old church! All of them were immune to physical attacks too!
[. rd Luck = 89, check passed]
The object that was just about to attack them stopped all of a sudden, before retreating slowly. Yu Yi and Huahua managed to escape the old church.
“Whew… KP? My luck check wasn’t even at 90 points! How did I pass?”
When Yu Yi heard that his luck value was at 89, he thought he was about to die. Little did he expect to pass!
[There’s a boost value.]
The words of the shitty KP were simple. He ignored Yu Yi after three short words.
However, no matter what, they were really lucky to be able to escape. They would be in huge trouble if they were stuck with that… thing. Up till now, apart from the unused Tai Sword, Yu Yi had no effective means of chasing or attacking. Not only that, Yu Yi had no idea what effects the Tai Sword had on that thing.
