The Insatiable - Chapter 17
Half an hour later, they arrived at the other side of the city where the orphanage could be found. The two directly went inside and searched for the Headmistress of the orphanage. The last time the original Haruhiro visited the orphanage was before Matsumoto Riku’s thugs beat him up. After that, Haruhiro has been too busy flirting with Anna and Yasumi that he forgot that he needed to visit the orphanage. Leading to this current situation where they’re now short in time.
Haruhiro remembers that the headmistress visited him once when he was still checked in at the hospital. She’s still quite young, only twenty-eight years old. He remembered her because she has a long braided black hair that reaches down to her butt. She had only begun acting as the orphanage’s headmistress two months ago because her grandfather’s illness worsened. Her name if Haruhiro remembers it correctly is Chiba Erina, before becoming headmistress she used to take care of the kids as well whenever she had free time.
Her grandfather treated Haruhiro differently from all the orphans in the orphanage. He would be very strict with him and would scold Haruhiro so much whenever he committed any mistakes. He never really understood why he acted like that before but now that he knows the identity of her real mother, is it possible for him to be his grandfather in his mother’s side and the now headmistress as his aunt?
He put these thoughts aside since even if he does find out that he is blood related to them, his treatment of them won’t be any better than the way he treats the three women by his side, it would even be a inferior by a few notches.
After all he was never really close to them and never really acted like a family.
She was already in high school when Haruhiro was still in the orphanage and she left when Haruhiro entered middle school for college. They didn’t interact that much and had minimal contact with each other. This is also the reason why he doesn’t really have much of a memory of this person.
Anna and Haruhiro saw her in her office, she’s currently wearing a turtleneck sweater that is color white, black pants and a golden cross necklace. When she saw someone entered without even knocking she was annoyed but when she saw who it was, she was pleasantly surprised. “Sato-kun and Anna-san, what brings the two of you here?” Asking that she stood up and tried to prepare some tea for her uninvited guests, however, what Haruhiro said stopped her right on her track.
“I’ve come to bring you away from this place.”
Chiba Erina was surprised by his statement and couldn’t help but look at him again, she was then surprised. ‘How come his eyes have changed color? He’s not wearing contacts is he?’ She didn’t notice it before somehow but now that she observed the two more, they appear to have a different aura compared to a few days before. She couldn’t help but wonder what happened to these two and then, she remembered what Haruhiro had just said and blushed.
‘Bring me away? Is he confessing to me? Does he like me? But doesn’t he have Anna-san?’
Her thoughts drifted her away from reality. There is one thing that people would need to know in order to understand Chiba Erina better. She grew up with a strict father since her mother died an early death. She had an elder sister but heard that she and her whole family met with an accident that left her and her father all alone in their family. Because her elder sister was older to her by a few years and that elder sister not really getting along well with her father, they never really bonded as sisters. Her sister even left home earlier, almost never showing up.
With her father the only family member left, she had to live in his constant reminders and ramblings about how not to be like her sister. When she noticed it, she had grown up and become the headmistress of the orphanage. The father who constantly reminded her not to marry early and so on and so forth now bedridden, she had to manage all of it by herself. Left with so many responsibilities she had no time for her own life, this led to her being a person who walked her life viewing the world through her rose-colored glasses.
Erina is also the type of person easily dragged into her fantasies. Which is why she’s also a person who views the world through her rose-colored glasses.
She’s had no proper experience and always hoped for a knight in shining armor to appear and take her away from this life that seems so… Dull. Which is why when she heard those words from Haruhiro, her heart skipped a beat no matter how irrational it may be. However, a bit of her sanity is still retained by her mind which is why she only blushed and thought of it before controlling herself so that she wouldn’t show it on her face.
She calmed herself down but Anna saw those slight changes and sighed inside. ‘Is this bad wolf going to eat up the headmistress as well?’ It’s only right for her to think of this since even though it appears to be that she has fully accepted him having other woman than her, which woman wouldn’t want their man to be only theirs?
Chiba Erina then coughed to hide her embarrassment and said, “What do you mean by that Sato-kun?”
“The city is already in a mess, soon it will reach this place. It won’t be safe any longer. You need to come with us, we built a safe place and we have enough food to last us for years.”
Erina was shocked by his explanation and then she frowned. “Is the city really already in chaos? Grandma Mathilde escorted some children who fell into a coma to the hospital. I agree with you that if the city is already chaotic then we would be caught up with it if that place is truly safe and you have enough supplies… Thank you for caring about this orphanage.”
In fact, she’s been worried about how they’ll take care of their necessities. After all, almost all the places where the virus broke out have been quarantined. If that ever happened here, the children will be left starving and that she will not allow to happen.
Now that a rope has been thrown for them to hold onto, she will obviously make sure that the children and the people in the orphanage not suffer.
“There’s no need to say thanks for this, the orphanage took care of us when we were young -it’s about time we help,” Anna said as she held Haruhiro’s hand. “Since you agree with us, then its best to prepare right now. Pack only the necessities, no more messing around.”
Erina nodded and went ahead to manage the orphanage’s preparations for the evacuation herself. She handled it efficiently, making Haruhiro nod his head in approval as he watched from the sides.
Suddenly, Haruhiro felt his whole body go numb. ‘This feeling… Could it be!?’ His body moved on its own even before he decided to confront this numbing feeling.
The wind brushing against his skin as he runs straight out of the orphanage woke his senses up, the numb feeling he felt earlier already starting to recede. When he got out of the orphanage’s gates he saw two people walking away from the orphanage.
This place is just as stated before, at the edge of the city. People who would usually come here are rare and they would all usually just pass by just these two people but somehow when he saw these two, Haruhiro felt very uneasy inside.

When he read what is written on the holographic screen that suddenly popped up, killing intent unknowingly leaked out from his body. His body ready to lunge forward, his shadows split into five different parts.
Haruhiro was about to move when one of the two people first moved, it took out its hidden blades and started throwing it at full speed to Haruhiro.
He was first startled by this but focused the next moment. He dodged to the left, avoiding the bladed flying straight at him and lunged forward. Haruhiro then raised his fists, he’s ready to go hand to hand with this person. His plan is to distract the enemy while his shadows surround them.
However, things didn’t go as Haruhiro expected because before he even had a chance to react, his senses told him he’s in grave danger. He made his split shadow merge and envelop him, creating some sort of shadow armor that protected his body. It blocked his view of the outside but he is still able to hear whatever is going on outside. The shadow armor just completely formed when he heard the sound of a gunshot.
It repeated for several times before stopping. Haruhiro sweated. If he was even a moment late then a bullet would have penetrated his body.
The shadow armor separated from his body and formed tentacles. He looked around and saw the gunman, the gunman was hidden in an alley which is why he wasn’t able to notice it before since his mind was preoccupied with his anger.
“The killing intent on you is no joke. However I don’t recall having met each other before, so now the question is… Who are you?”
He looked at the person who started to talk, that person has silver hair and black eyes. The image of his killer and this person overlapped in Haruhiro’s mind. His red eyes turned even brighter, it gleamed with murderous intent.
The person beside Sloth moved, it threw another batch of hidden blades at Haruhiro but he’s able to block it all by using his shadow as a shield.
“Is that your ability? Moving your shadow? That seems pretty useful for assassinations but its useless if the assassin’s bloodlust is leaking, is it not?
Also, you haven’t answered my question. I hate repeating myself.”
Sloth’s lackeys positioned themselves behind and in front of Haruhiro. The gunman at the back and the hidden blade user in front. Looking at these two, he noticed how they both seem to be the same person. They’re both wearing the same type of clothes, both are bald and of the same height. They’re wearing a black suit paired with a red necktie, inside they’re wearing a white shirt.
“I’m the person who really wants to kill you.”
“Pfft. No shit Sherlock, you seem to be the “act now, think later”-type. I hate people like you the most, always full of energy.”
Haruhiro couldn’t take it anymore and made two of his split shadows move towards the black suit’s. Both moved at the same time to avoid the shadows but they weren’t able to lose their tails. The shadows continued to follow after them which is why they continued to move farther away. Of course, they didn’t forget to throw or shoot at Haruhiro from time to time so that he wouldn’t be able to attack Sloth.
The shadows then suddenly stopped pursuing the black suit’s. The black suit’s also stopped moving away and instead stood right at where they stopped.
“Around ten feet? That’s as much as your shadows can stretch. It’s neither too far nor too short a distance. You’re not much of a problem.”
Hearing Sloth’s analysis Haruhiro smiled and said, “Is that so?” Then two of the shadows sticking close to him merged with the other two that was too stretched. The two shadows then continued their pursuit much to Sloth’s surprise. The two black suits couldn’t react in time and were stabbed by Haruhiro’s shadow tentacles. The hidden blade user was stabbed at his forehead while the gunman had his chest stabbed.
“I see, it was stupid of me to forget about the fact that you can control your shadows form. I lost an Agent because of that.”
Haruhiro was at a lost, ‘What did he mean by that?’ When it suddenly dawned upon him. However, he was late this time, before his remaining shadow formed a shield he heard a gunshot.
His senses heightened, Haruhiro tried his best to somehow avoid the bullet shot at him.
Then the next moment after he made his move, he felt blood oozing out.
