The Insatiable - Chapter 29

HaruhiroandNanakoarrived at the place where most of the children from the orphanage are staying at. Theywere interruptedby one ofNanako’ssubordinate telling them that one of the children from the orphanage collapsed and have still not woken up.

Standing outside of the buildingHaruhirocould hear people talking inside. He knocked on the door and when it opened, they both hurriedly got inside the house.

Inside they saw the anxious expression on the people’s face.Haruhirocould see bothErinaandShiorithat have waited for them. He frowned when he saw the fear and anxiety on their faces, it seems to him that the situation doesn’t seem good. When the two sawNanakoandHaruhiroenter, they stood up from their sits and walked towards them.

ErinaandShiorinoticed howNanako’sclothes seem disheveled and her hair messy. Her cheeks also seem flushed and when they got close to the two, they could smell a strange scent coming from them. They couldn’t help but blush when they realized where this scent came from.

However,Haruhiro’svoice quickly brought them back to reality before they could fully imagine what they think happened to them.

“Lead us to him.”

Haruhirowants to immediately see whether that kidis infectedor not. If the childis infectedthen a lot of things will have to change in this camp. However, he feels that the kid is not infected and in a situation where he would later turn into an undead. However, if that kid isn’t infected then what could have happened?

Erinathen said with her face still blushing, “This waySato-kun.” She then leads them to the stairs heading to the second floor.

“Tell us what happened again. All that wewere toldis that a kid collapsed while playing.”

Nanakodidn’t want to waste any time, she wants to hear what really happened as they walk to where the kid is resting.Shiorinodded her head and started to talk.

“I was watching the kids playing when one of them suddenly collapsed. I thought at first that she tripped but she didn’t stand up even after a few seconds. That’s when I thought that something wasn’t right.

I run up to her and saw that she fainted but up until now she still hasn’t woken up. I was afraid that she might be… That’s why I toldIshikawa-santo call Sato-san because you seem to know a great deal about what’s happening. I’m sorry however it seems that you were busy.”

HaruhiroandNanako’smovement halted because of the last part ofShiori’sexplanation. They looked at her weirdly but they know that they need to hurry it up. However,Haruhirostill found what she said and the way she said itquite… Confusing. Anyway, it doesn’t matter now.

“We’re here.Sato-kun, I’ll have to tell you that the one that collapsed wasAyaka-chan. You need to calm down, alright?”

It was like lighting struckHaruhiro, making him unable to move.Ayaka… The figure of a little girl who’s always calling him “brother” appeared in his head. That sweet kid who would follow him wherever he went, and would always cry because of childish things.

“Ayaka-chan?”Haruhiromuttered under his breath. He couldn’t wait anymore and opened the door. Once inside, he then saw the little girl or at least the older version of her.

Years have passed and that little has grown up… Well, at least most of her. He could see her sleeping soundly andHaruhiroimmediately felt relieved. It seems that she’s not in pain, he could at least relax for now. He then looked around and saw that aside fromAyakaanother person is standing near her bed.

She looks around the same age asNanakoor maybe a few years younger than her. She has a messyponytailwith bangs as her hairstyle. This person is wearing a gray turtleneck sweater and black pants while on top of it is a doctor’s coat.Haruhiroalso noticed that this woman has an alluring figure comparable toNanako. Her chest,butt, and long legs attractedHaruhiroand though he just had an amazing time withYasumihis dragon started raising once again.

“Who are you? Why did you suddenly enter!?”

That person askedHaruhiroangrily, he then heard the others enter the room after he did. Noticing the tense situation inside the room,Erinaquickly spoke up to solve the misunderstanding.

“Matsui-sensei, this is Sato-san. He’s somewhat of a big brother toAyaka-chan. Sato-san, this isMatsuiHimeko-sensei. A friend ofNanako-neeand the doctor at our camp. She was also our school’s new nurse for the clinic before all that happened, happened.”

The person calledHimekothen moved away her glare fromHaruhiroand turned to look atNanakobehind him. She smiled and greeted her with a nod, completely ignoringHaruhiro.

Haruhiroalready heard about this doctor fromNanakoand Anna before so he didn’t feel that surprised to see her ignore him. He knows that she’s the type of person who truly hates men and adores women.Haruhirodecided to just ignore her as well sinceright nowhe’s worried aboutAyaka.

He stood besideAyaka’sbed and looked at the pale little girl. He couldn’t help but brush her cheeks with his fingers. AlthoughHaruhirois not the one that experienced all the memories he has with this girl and that this is the first time he even saw her, he’s already long decided that he isHaruhiro. Which technically means that he is this little girl’s “brother.” As his brother, of course, he’s worried that his little sister might turn into a living corpse in a few hours.

Nanakothen spoke up, “Himeko-chan. What’s wrong withAyaka-chan?” She looked atHimekowho has been silently staring at her and smiled.Himekowas already going to answer whenHaruhirosaid first, “Congenital heart disease…”

The others looked at him with surprise when they heard him.Himekothen said, “Oh? Are you a cardiologist to know just what’s ailing her just by looking?” She looked atHaruhirowith disdain.

Haruhirodidn’t care about her, he just looked at his sister and continued to talk with Ava. ‘How can I help her Ava?’ In fact, the moment he entered the room Ava started scanningAyaka’scondition. Once the System completed the scan and diagnosis of her illness did Ava tell the results toHaruhiro. He felt relieved that she isn’t in danger of turning into a zombie but that relief didn’t last long before Ava told him how her life is in danger.

He’s been told how her heart is too narrow to supply her whole body with enough amount.Ayaka’sbody doesn’t get enough oxygen that led to her fainting due to the fatigue.Haruhiroremembered how she really has been always quick to run out of breath. However, she has never fainted before due to fatigue. How come she did now?

Also, she’s always been the quiet type that doesn’t play well with the other kids so how could she even get tired from playing? In order to answer his doubts, he questionedShioriby asking her who she was playing with.

“If I remember correctly the girl she was playing with isYasumi-san’slittle sister.”

That answer dumbfounded him, he remembered howYasumi’sparents told him this afternoon that their youngest sister is unlikeYasumiwho’s quiet and timid. She’s energetic and outgoing, definitely the opposite ofAyaka. The reason how the two girls got along enough to makeAyakahave so much fun playing bothered him but he didn’t focus on it.

Instead, he waited for Ava’s response to his question earlier.

Haruhiroobtained his answer in a form of a quest. To helpAyaka, he would, of course, need a cardiologist and the equipment needed to help her. He also realized because of this that now is the best time to start looting the city for supplies. The medicines and food supplies that they have are not enough, and itwill not beenough for them even more since they just agreed to let some people inside the camp.

His eyes burned with determination.

“Haru-chan?”

Nanakoand the othershave watchedHaruhirosilently, they don’t know what’s inside his head but it looked like he was thinking of something important. They didn’t really want to disturb him but now that it was taking too long,Nanakobecame impatient and didn’t know what to do.

She can only call his name and when he replied with an embarrassed smile, she sighed in relief.Haruhirothen kissedAyaka’sforehead and said to everyone present in the room.

“I know what to do.”
