The Insatiable - Chapter 31
The Dungeon Card’s price if Haruhiro could remember correctly is 1,500 Greed Points. That, however, is the price for the cheapest kind of Dungeon Card. It’s price depending on what type and grade the card is could reach even half a million GP.
The grades of the Dungeon Cards differ in five grades. From D, C, B, A, and, S being the hardest level. Each card will have different colors signifying what grade of the dungeon it is.
Each dungeon has on its card the same designs, a double door with two wolves embedded on each door. These two wolves are facing each other standing on their own two legs. At the top edge of the two doors is the ouroboros symbol. The doors are colored in black while the wolves and the ouroboros are both in grayish silver color.
Haruhiro looked at the drawing on the card and thought how the wolves seem to be trying to reach for the ouroboros. The wolves seem hungry for it. His brows knitted together when he observed this, he asked himself why the design is of wolves. However, he shook his head to be rid of that thought. Haruhiro knows that thinking of that is useless so he returned his attention back to observing the card.
A D-rank dungeon has a color white border around the card, C-rank dungeon cards are color blue, B-rank is bronze, A-rank is silver, and S-rank dungeon cards are gold in color. At the back of each card is actually the color that represents what grade of the dungeon it is.
“Haru-chan? What’s that card for?”
Nanako has already placed the gun back at the table and has silently started to observe the card in Haruhiro’s hand. Ever since the day she gained her ability she started to somehow feel the aura or energy around people and objects. She thought at first that this was only her brain feeling tired therefore making illusions but when Anna and Yasumi told her how they could also feel it, she was enlightened.
Only those that have gained abilities can, of course, feel that energy and the stronger a person is the more they could feel that energy. Right now she’s looking at the blue borders of the card and she could feel a faint aura being emitted by the card. Regarding how she could determine the aura’s strength she naturally has been observing other people and objects.
She’s observed Yasumi, Anna, and the sleeping Haruhiro back then. From Yasumi she could feel a strong aura. This aura whenever she feels it, her body goes in heat. She could feel her body wanting to indulge in another.
Anna’s aura, however, is unlike Yasumi’s. The aura she released is a lot weaker, if Anna’s aura is a gentle breeze then Yasumi’s would be a gale signifying the coming of a storm. Unlike Yasumi’s however, she naturally could not feel any sort of side effect from Anna. Nanako could even feel comfortable from her aura, she felt that it’s like a gentle embrace from Haruhiro.
The disparity between Yasumi and Anna’s aura may not be clear to Nanako but Haruhiro does. Yasumi is the Sin of Lust, an Incarnate. Although Ava didn’t give the information on whether an Incarnate or an Evolved is stronger but judging from the strength of their aura’s Haruhiro thought that an Incarnate must be stronger.
However, Haruhiro doesn’t dare to conclude that an Evolved is weaker than an Incarnate. That’s because he’s clearer than everyone that judging a person’s competence from aura alone is not appropriate. He’s heard many stories from the women who took care of him before that there are have been countless Evolveds that had weaker auras and ability but managed to slay stronger foes.
He’s been repeatedly reminded by them to never let his guard down and never underestimate his enemies. Lessons that he’s forgotten ever since he reincarnated and got the System.
Haruhiro returned to a world where the apocalypse has yet to start, being a child born out of the apocalypse he naturally has not experienced a world where people will not try to kill him for a piece of bread. He, of course, felt curiosity for this type of world. Haruhiro also gained three wives, women who are incomparably beautiful and amazing, he indulged himself in that life.
It was a good thing that he met Sloth and the person in white that day. That battle woke him up from his dreamland.
Haruhiro shook his head, he thought to himself how he should really move on from that battle. However, his deep regret of having not killed Sloth that day is something he cannot bury.
Whenever he remembers the way the Sloth from his timeline looked at him his blood would boil from indignation. That cold eyes, it was as if it was already looking at something that no longer exists. He hated how powerless he was and how he was like an ant back then.
‘That enmity from another time, I must pay back a hundredfold.’
“Haru-chan?” Nanako asked again, she could see that there’s something bothering Haruhiro and she guessed that maybe it’s about that little girl. “Don’t worry Haru-chan, I’m sure you’ll be able to gather everything you need.”
She then hugged his arm, burying it inside her bosom. Haruhiro was brought back by that soft sensation on his arm. He looked at his side and discovered that Nanako is looking at him, her eyes filled with curiosity and worry at the same time. ‘Her black eyes are really beautiful,’ is what Haruhiro is thinking.
“Sorry, I remembered something. What were you saying?”
“I was asking what that card you’re holding is, I could feel a weak aura coming out of it.”
She looked once again at the card and frowned.
“Is it something dangerous?”
“Dangerous? Well, it probably is. Though I’m not entirely sure.”
“What does it do then?”
“Hmm… I’m quite confused about that as well.”
Haruhiro said this because he is indeed not sure of what the Dungeon Card can do, all he knows is that it can bring him great benefits. Skills books, weapons, and other things that could enhance his strength.
In order to learn more about the Dungeon Card, he used one of the System’s function.
[Dungeon Card: D-Rank
– Summons a gate that opens an independent subspace that has a 1:3 time ratio. Spawns monsters that allow those who have killed said monsters to grow stronger.
– Dungeon type: Random ]
Looking at the information given by the System, he understands that a Dungeon Card is some sort of a key that opens a subspace. Haruhiro is pleasantly surprised to learn that by entering a dungeon he will be able to grow stronger just by killing monsters.
If he could obtain more Dungeon Cards he’d have even more ways to level himself up. Haruhiro nodded to himself, he will enter this dungeon tonight for tomorrow’s work. He looked at Nanako and suddenly thought of an idea.
‘Ava, can I bring other people inside a dungeon?’
[Replying to Host, that is possible as long as Host adds them to your party.]
‘Party? What party?’
He’s never had a chance to actually explore this present world, all he did was flirt with the girls back then, frequently visit restaurants, and that one time he went to school.
[A party is composed of your teammates, host.]
“…”
Haruhiro shook his head and decided to just check the System, he remembers that he once saw that party setting when he was fiddling with it. He chose the Status tab and at the top right corner, Haruhiro could see a gear. The symbol for the settings.
He chose that and a list of options was revealed, however, Haruhiro ignored all of it for now and clicked on the Party setting.
Haruhiro could see an almost empty screen once he clicked on it. There are seven columns on this screen, however, six are actually locked while the only column that’s unlocked has names he is familiar with.
[Party Members List Option
– Kashimoto Anna
– Kobayashi Nanako
– Sasaki Yasumi ]
He knows that Anna and Yasumi are tired so he will naturally choose Nanako, he tapped on her name and a notification appeared.
[Party member has been set.]
Haruhiro then grabbed Nanako’s hand and led her out of the room, he, of course, did not forget to grab the gun he just got.
They arrived outside the camp quickly, Haruhiro didn’t wait for a moment. He quickly crushed the Dungeon Card, it then emitted white light. The light then scattered turning into orbs. These lights then gathered a few meters away from them and it started to form the Dungeon Gate.
The light disappeared and he could see the familiar gate that’s on the card. A white light could be seen flickering around the gate, this signifies that this is a D-rank dungeon.
“Let’s go?”
Haruhiro looked at Nanako and asked. Along the way, Haruhiro told her about the function of the card and she was surprised, ‘Such a small card can actually do such a thing?’ If she knew that the camp was made from such a small cube she would be even more surprised.
“Nn.” Nanako nodded and grabbed his hand tighter. This will be the first time she would fight, she feels both anxious and excited at the same time. Her whole life she never would have thought that she’ll have such an exciting event in her life.
Haruhiro saw her nod and tapped on the option that he wanted.
[Do you want to enter the dungeon?
Yes? No? ]
“Yes.”
The white light grew stronger while doors slowly opened.
