The Invincible Hero - Chapter 52
As the war against the Great Fiend had come to a close, the Dragon Emperor finished his speach and people gathered themselves together. Suddenly they heard a roar!
“Shig, I wasn’t able to catch them!” Yelled Big Bear.
Big Bear furiously pounded the ground as he got up on his knees with one hand on the ground and the other one striking it furiously. His head was down as tears came out endlessly. He was in the same spot where Lorne and the Great Field fallen through the portal.
“Big Bear!” Everyone yelled.
BIg Bear was the sworn brother of Lorne, or as everyone here knew him, the Invincible Dragon. Out of everyone the death of his brother probably hit him the hardest. Big Bear finally got up to his feet as the Dragon Princess herself came to his side to comfort him.
“I’m sorry, I can’t believe he’s gone. I had hopes, I had such hopes.” The Dragon Princess said as she too shed tears. No one knew that the Dragon Princess had fallen in love with the young Gold Dragon, but now they began to appreciate that she truly had some feelings for him.
“You guys talkin’ about me?” A voice sounded out.
Everyone looked up in shock to see Lorne walking towards them. Didn’t he just die? Didn’t they witness him falling through the portal only to have it close after him?
No one was more shocked that Big Bear who had been hot on his heels trying to save him. The Dragon Emperor scanned him fearing this was a Fiend trick of some kind. He discovered to his surprise that he was facing the Five-Clawed Dragon Man Wudi Long, the Invincible Dragon! What was going on?
“Little Bear!” Big Bear yelled out in excitement.
Lorne was surprised, didn’t he tell Big Bear not to call him Little Bear when he was in this form?
“Little Bear…who’s that?” Lorne pretended to be confused.
“I’m sorry Little Bear, but somehow these people figured out that Little Bear and the Invincible Dragon were the same person. Somehow I feel responsible.” Big Bear said.
“Somehow? You’re the one who told us who he was? Dumb Bear.” Everyone thought to themselves.
“Darn, I can never seem to keep my secret identity!” Lorne commented as he pouted a little. He loved having a secret identity.
“Enough of that, we thought you died! How are you still alive!” Asked a frantic Dragon Princess.
Lorne shrugged his shoulders and sheepishly smiled at everyone.
“I’m not entirely sure, I went through the portal and the Great Fiend and I continued fight, but then I guess I got kicked out somehow. I found myself flying through the air with such force I couldn’t keep myself from flying through a few mountains!” Loren said.
“Your clothes are different,” the Dragon Emperor observed.
“Yeah, my other clothes were mostly dissentigrated. Even the armor you gave me was destroyed Big Bear! I thought I should put some new clothes on before showing up,” said Lorne.
“What does it matter, you’re safe Little Bear, I’ll make you ten more armors if you want! Big Bear rushed over to Lorne and swung him around before crushing him in a big bear hug!
“Okay, Can’t breath….” Lorne struggled for air. Big Bear finally realized he was suffocating his friend too much and released him.
It was agreed that they would hold a celebratory feast for the end of the war and to celebrate the heroes of the war, mainly Big Bear and Lorne.
Lorne reverted back to his silver horn form. Even though this wasn’t his true form, the gold horn form was his true form, he somehow felt more comfortable in this form. Lorne was stolen away by the Dragon Emperor. Lorne’s and Big Bear’s Parents were fetched from the forest world they both grew up on. The Dragon Emperor asked Kal N’Dar to pass an invitation to the feast to Master River. Kal agreed but didn’t think he would come.
Master Rel was also celebrated as a hero of the war. Master Rel already resigned from his post in the new universe so he wasn’t in a hurry. He always loved any excuse he could find for a good party.
The Dragon Emperor took Lorne to his private chambers. The Dragon Emperor invited Lorne to sit in a chair near his own in the reclining room. A maid brought snacks and liquor for the pair to enjoy before quietly disappearing.
“You really are the hero of the war!” The Dragon Emperor began.
“Please, my lord, don’t give me a big head, I still need to fit through the door later when I leave!” Lorne joked with the Dragon Emperor. The Dragon Emperor also laughed. He understood this young man wasn’t one to gloat or brag. He didn’t like praise much which is probably why he like that secret identity things so much he thought.
“I want you to marry my daughter,” The Emperor abruptly said.
Lorne coughed suddenly driving the liquor he was drinking up into his nose before some of it spewed out of his mouth. He had a coughing fit as the alcohol burned his nose and throat.
“Sorry, was that too abrupt?” The Dragon Emperor laughed.
“A little,” Lorne coughed out.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to be so straight forward. It’s just I noticed that look you gave my daughter as you went to your death. I also keep seeing the looks she’s giving you. It seems like and obvious match. You love her correct?” The Dragon Emperor said.
“Yes, I do.” agreed Lorne.
“The it’s only natural for the two of you to marry, correct?” asked the Dragon Emperor.
“I won’t say no, I would very much like to marry her. I just…well we just ended the war and we’re about to have a banquet. I haven’t had a chance to talk with her yet, and I don’t know what her opinion is on all of this. It might be a little sudden for her.” responded Lorne.
“When isn’t love sudden?” asked the Emperor.
“Fine, fine, go and talk with her, but I would love to make this feast a celebration of my daughter’s engagement! People love happy endings. It will do a lot to sooth the fear in people’s hearts. To know their hero and my daughter are getting married!” laughed the Dragon Emperor.
It made sense to Lorne, and he decided to talk with the Dragon Princess as soon as possible. Although the two had spent very little time around each other; Lorne remembered how impressed he was from the very beginning with how the princess carried herself. Then, before he left to attack the Great Fiend and die, he suddenly realized he loved her. Strange.
She was the second woman he had ever loved. Hopefully he would have some time to raise a family and get to know her better. Time could only tell. Hopefully, he would see Mary, his first wife, again someday and his children as well.
Lorne left the Dragon Emperor after a few more drinks and went straight to find the Dragon Princess. He was a person who like to take care of things when they came up. He learned it was the right decision with Marry, and he hoped it would be the right decision with the Dragon Princess.
Arriving at the Princess’ quarters, two men walked out, it was Colonel Brier and Brigadier
General Foxx. These were the two Lietenants who helped the Princess on the Forest world that Lorne came from. Due to the achievements they have acquired on behalf of the princess and the Dragon Empire, the pair have continued to get promoted. The pair nodded towards Lorne as they left. They didn’t recognize him in his silver dragon form. They only remember the strange little silver horn dragon baby.
Two female guards were stationed at the entrance to the princess’ private chambers. One of them informed the princess of Lorne’s arrival. After a few minutes he was let in. When he walked in, he was surprised to find that the Princess haf fixed herself up a little.
“Princess, I hope I’m not intruding,” apologized Lorne.
“No, no, not at all, Please have a seat.” The princess indicated a seat near her. Lorne detected the sounds of hidden heart beats. It must be hidden guards. Lorne smiled, they couldn’t hide from him. Doing a quick sweep of the room he found eleven fidgety guards. It seemed his presence unsettled them. He wasn’t sure if it was because they knew that if he had unkind intentions there was nothing they could do, or if they were also some of his fans.
“Our Invincible Hero, I’m so honored for the visit. What can I do for you?” the Princess smiled sweetly as she asked.
“Princess, I must admit that I find this topic I wish to discuss a little embarrasing…I wonder if we can speak alone?”
“You know there are guards here?” the Princess asked with surprise.
“I know there are eleven of them and I can point out their positions if you would like. On my honor ladies you have nothing to fear from me. Perhaps if you would like one of them to stay hidden somewhere nearby. I wouldn’t want anyone to get the wrong idea of course. But, I am a little shy about these things.” Lorne said with a soft laugh.
“Kong Yi, please stay, everyone else, you may leave.” The Dragon Princess ordered. She ddn’t fear anything from Lorne and even if she did what could she do. However, she appreciated that he was concerned for the appearance of a man and a woman alone together. Kong Yi was more like a sister than a guard so she didn’t mind her staying. Out of sight of course.
“Princes, I’ll get straight to the point.” Lorne said with force.
“Please call me Yu, what may I call you?” The Princess asked.
These seemed to cause Lorne to pause for a moment. Oh year, he had a couple of names didn’t he?
“Please, call me Xiong. It’s the name my parents gave me, the other one was for my secret identity. Well, my formerly, secret identity.” Lorne said with some frustration.
He found out how everyone came to learn of his real identity. He knew better than to trust Big Bear with his secret. Big Bear was terrible with secrets, but Lorne thought Big Bear shouldn’t have a problem with keeping such a big secret. That dumb bear.
“Princess, I mean Yu…uhm” Lorne was suddenly nervous. The Princess had totally thrown him off. He lost his train of thought and started stuttering and stammering. Lorne stopped for a moment and took a deep breath.
“Yu’er, I hope you don’t mind,” he said with a smile. The Princess blushed slightly but didn’t object. This filled Lorne with some confidence.
“Yu’er, I came her to ask you to be my wife.” Lorne took out a piece of coal from his spatial ring. Holding it up so the princess could see it clearly, she seemed confused. Lorne crushed the coal in his hand and opened his palm to reveal a rough diamond. Lorne then took the diamond and using his Laser Vision, he cut the diamond perfectly. Next, he pulled out an already formed ring and place the diamond in its place and gently tapped the small grips into place.
Lorne held the ring in his hands and asked again.
“Yu’er, will you marry me?”
With tears in her eyes, the Princess responded, “Yes,” with a sweet smile.
