The Lady Of The Future - Chapter 8
When Queen Lily paused, she felt a bit dizzy. Alfina, who was watching behind the screen, enter a command, [Fly]. The bird flew above Queen Lily’s bed. The Queen couldn’t help but let herself enjoy some rest.
Alfina was confused as to why these tears were flowing from her eyes. Her heart was calm. Her mind was numb. But these tears kept on getting away on her vision. After concluding that waiting for it to stop won’t help, she went to take a bath in warm water. True enough, her body started to calm down. She almost fell asleep in the bathroom, good thing she felt the water getting colder.
Due to busy schedules and trips, King George had little time to spend beside his Queen. Thinking about this, Alfina felt irritated and used the other bird to deliver the aged letter saying:
[To Stupid Royal Father,
Please put extra care to Royal Mother. She’s pale.]
This would appear to be, long lost before it was found. Alfina ordered the other bird to insert it one of the oldest documents inside the King’s office that could be useful at this point in time. To watch what would happen, Alfina ordered the bird to hide in a hidden corner of the ceiling where it could still be visible.
The moment it was found by King George the letter. He instantly paled and hurriedly run back to their room. Sure enough, the queen was paled more than ever. King George urgently address the problem and declared that if there wasn’t anything important and really needed the King to attend, he wouldn’t go on trips. At most he would let one of his sons to go there instead of him.
Alfina was delighted that such a father was her father. She really didn’t seek the wrong person. Her Eldest Brother, Elvin, was also very supportive. Just that the second prince, Louis, appeared to be the errand boy to the queen. He never left the Queen if not necessary. He’s much more attentive than King George.
Now, it’s time for her to move. At night, she let the two birds stay beside Queen Lily. One pierced the veins, the other gather the blood. Alfonso once said the Blood could tell a lot of story one you look at it carefully. After the other one flew the blood sample back to Alfina, the other one scan the body of Queen Lily.
Day after day, Alfina checked up Queen Alfina’s body. But nothing wrong could be found, yet her body continued to deteriorate. A lot of new and advance medicine from the mortal realm and azure realm was already read by Alfina but nothing comes out to describe what was happening.
A year passed by in Alfina’s research, for the first time she understood the meaning of being frustrated. But the moment she would clean up the failed experiments, she found one specimen, still inside the blood separator. One thing that she forgot about. She picked it up and observed it…
Alfina’s eye widened. She never knew that even Irah could have this type of blood. It was said to be the rarest type of blood even back in the mortal realm. But why? Looking into it, Alfina had a suspicion…
“Golden Blood…” She muttered.
“Golden Blood?” Louis stupidly asked.
“Yes.” Alfina seriously said.
Louis contemplated for a bit. Afterward, he looked at her seriously, “What is that?”
Alfina was thrown off by his question. ‘Seriously. What a stupid brother. It’s incurable.’ (Elvin: I, absolutely agree to that.)
When Louis saw Alfina’s eyes who seemed to be saying ‘Are you that stupid?’, he felt like he had to explain, “I don’t have an interest in science. I’m more of a military guy!”
“Musclehead…” Alfina muttered, unheard clearly by Louis.
“What did you say?”
“Nothing.” Alfina smiled politely and said, “Wasn’t it taught back at school?”
“Well…” Louis thought for a bit he encountered something like that. When he was sure, he confidently said, “Nope. There’s no such thing. ABO blood types are the least I could remember. We didn’t even talk about Rh types. Just that I saw some books about it when we’re having a reporting.”
Alfina thought about how weird this world they were living. First, all the books were advanced and even passed down, inherited from Alfonso Hyde. The environment was beyond mortal expectations. Maybe they already thought of the possibility since a story of a mirage city was made before.
But looking back at it. Irah was acting like ancient people that were given with alien space technology. The main source of survival was inside the clouds. Maybe Irah was a little bit smarter than mortals but their actions and thought process was almost the same.
Human nature.
That’s the answer. But it was displeasing, since they were already blessed by knowledge and research born form the hardships of Alfonso Hyde but they’re wasting it like this. It’s disrespectful to the creator. It’s alright to do some changes as long as it won’t destroy the world.
“…ey, hey!” Louis called out to her.
“Hm?”
“Don’t wander off to your own world!” Louis was annoyed, “Then?”
“Hm?” Alfina tilted her head.
“Don’t hm-hm me! What’s the relation of Golden Blood and mom?”
“I-” Alfina stop midway seemingly embrassed.
“I, what?” Louis really was the impatient and talkative type… the worst combinaton.
Alfina looked in another direction before saying with a barely audible voice, “I was too late…”
“You-” Louis really felt like he was on a roller coaster whenever he was with Alfina. His emotions were frequently changing per minute/sentence.
Alfina stood up and left Louis. After a few minutes, she came back holding a storage tube. When she came closer to Louis, she handed it over to him.
“What’s this?” Louis asked.
“Open it.”
Louis carefully took out the items inside. He was dumbfounded. A bunch of blueprints for the machines to use. Papers talking about the research. There’s also clear mini tube storage. Inside was 3 pieces of the red pill and the instructions on how to use it. There’s also a bottle of thick red syrup medicine. The alternative, in case the patient cannot intake the medicine.
“T-t-this?”
“Mother’s medicine.” Alfina seriously said.
“You had the medicine?” Louis felt ridiculous and unbelievable, “You- When did you finish this?”
“At mother’s last breath.” Alfina robotically said.
But Louis noticed something different to that poker face, he witnessed a tea escape from Alfina’s eyes. Alfina, on the other hand, felt dizzy. Louis softly pulled her to his side. Like a puppet, Alfina just followed every instruction of Louis.
While positioning Alfina to comfortably lay down on his lap, Louis repeatedly chanted to her, “Mother was there for you. Mother will protect you. Mother was happy for you. Mother was proud of you. Mother was thankful to you. Mother didn’t blame you. Mother care for you. Mother loves you…”
Like that, Alfina slowly closed her eyes, shedding her last drop of tears, she slept comfortably.
