The Last Survivor - Chapter 118
“A Dwarf…Interesting. So your race survived the onslaught of the dragons by hiding underground, and built an entire civilisation underground?”
“Yes. Ironically, it appears that you too escaped a dragon in the same manner.”
Hearing this, Merlin nodded with a serious face at the obvious joke that the elder had made, forcing the elder to dry cough a few times before continuing.
“Anyway, you are clearly not from this plane, are you?”
“Nope. I’m Merlin by the ways, a human from Earth’s Dimension.”
“Ah! Where are my manners! I am Dulir, and these here are my students Dufir, Dumir, and Dudir, belonging to the Du Clan of the Dwarven empire. I have been born and raised in this plane.”
“Hmm”
Merlin nodded before being fixated onto a particular set of words.
“You were born and raised on this plane. What other planes do you know of?”
“Hehe. Are all humans this clever? Anyway, somethings are best left unspoken for the time being.”
Merlin looked up at the towering dwarf and nodded in understanding. Why would someone trust a stranger the moment they met them. Secrets were the foundation of a relationship between individuals and groups.
“Anyway, I just need to ask you something before we continue our conversation. Is the Dwarven empire hostile to outsiders?”
“Keke. An important question, to which I would say most definitely not. We get plenty of outsiders who are not part of the dwarf race, but are residents of this plane, and we welcome them. I’m sure you will fit in nicely.”
The elder laughed heartily as he spoke to Merlin, who decided to take things at face value and accepted the invitation to go to the dwarven empire that Dulir had offered reading in between the lines.
“Sure then, why don’t we take a look. If things go south, I can just eject myself from this plane and drift back to my plane.” Merlin said in a light tone, but Dulir suddenly froze in his movements.
However, after a few moments of standing motionless, he composed himself and continue walking down the narrow tunnel he had made while following his students, who quickly followed behind Dulir.
Shrugging, Merlin decided to follow behind as well.
Time passed in the awkward silence created by the elder who had suddenly stopped speaking after Merlin spoke about escaping the plane, and a day passed by when the group finally reached some semblance of civilisation.
The randomly meandering tunnel straightened out into a wide and tall tunnel through dirt that was as hard as steel, and the group finally met other individuals.
These people were wearing rather shabby gear unlike the pristine clothes and equipment worn by the three children and Dulir.
“Lord Dulir! You have finally returned!! The guards from the Du clan were getting restless-”
Before he could complete his sentence, multiple figures sped out from the sides of the tunnel and surrounded Dulir and the three kids, while nearly 10 of them unsheathed their weapons and pointed them at Merlin, instantly separating Merlin from the dwarves who were accompanying them.
Before Dulir could talk to the guards who were just as tall as him, and heavily equipped with top grade equipment, Merlin made his move.
Unknown to him, he began using the laws he had perceived from the dragon, improving his fighting prowess by nearly a whole Level without him actually being at that level. The greatest improvement he received from this law was his effectiveness in using spells and physical combat and enhancements to defeat his opponents.
Since most of the guards facing him were newly evolved Tier 4s, while the higher level Tier 4s were protecting the dwarves he was accompanying, he knew they were not going to kill Dulir and the others, and were instead their guards.
In normal circumstances, one would hold back in order to maintain relations with the dwarves he had come with. However, was ever ‘normal’ ever since the system had come about. Why would Merlin think otherwise. He still remembered the harsh life he had lived before ‘The Master’ revived him and brought him back in time.
‘Why in the world would I waste so many free evolution and stat points?’
With this thinking in mind, Merlin went all out and froze the enemies’ feet before beheading each of them cleanly followed by and earth lance through their hearts and then burning their corpses.
Since he did not know the exact vitality of the enemies, nor their skills, he just made triple sure that they were completely and thoroughly dead before moving on to kill the next batch of soldiers.
Within 3 seconds, Merlin had killed enough for him to level up once. At this moment, Dulir finally spoke up.
“Stop!! He is not the enemy!”
Hearing this, those who were enraged by the deaths of their friends and were charging in stopped in their tracks.
‘He killed nearly 20 of us instantly, and many more after. If he is not the enemy, then who is?’
While this thought ran through their minds, they could not disobey direct orders from an elder of the Du Clan.
Dulir then moved to look towards Merlin and apologize, however, Merlin stopped him with a cold expression.
“Feel free to send me more evolution and stat points anytime. I’m not an old friend of yours nor the Du clan’s. We are strangers who just met. Anyone who attacks me will die if you are weaker than me.”
Unknowingly, Merlin’s personality had become more colder and fiercer after perceiving the laws of the beyond peak Tier 4 dragon.
