|Chapter Title: Battle Royals – To Prove One’s Worth (1)|
—
I held my chest as dark blood spills from the wound continuously. My head started to hurt as my eyes started to blur. I already feel like losing my life here. But I’ve already gone this far, why would I still be afraid of death if I already died once. Dying twice might not be the same, but what’s there to fear of? It’s still too early to leave the world that I just came in, only to be reincarnated and continue the real purpose of my life. So I hereby pledge; that in this lifetime, I will spend my time wisely and finish my task.
I tried to control the energy flow in my body and find a way to temporarily stop the bleeding in my chest. I observed as my palm emitted blue fire. The blue fire simultaneously tried to close up the open wound that was exposed on my chest. The blood slowly dried, but my enemies started to move themselves closer to me. I never thought these creatures were so powerful that they can walk and run on the surface of the water, barely touching it. So it completely looked like they’re floating on air.
When I already felt at ease, I slowly stood. Picking my sword up, and holding unto it to support my body. My right arm was no longer paralyzed, but my head hurts so bad. Almost feeding me an illusion of being dizzy and drowsy at the same time. I wonder how this mystical place looked so ordinary yet the surroundings were too sensitive and powerful enough to control your way of thinking.
I also wonder what will happen if I let the rapture of black energy fluctuations control me.
Will I die?
Or will I become evil?
But it feels like the latter ain’t gonna happen.
I held my sword up, readying for the battle that will take part. I need to act with ease and expertise, so I won’t consume much energy. The number of enemies really weigh on me, it feels like the Fire Dragon’s Empire prepared a good present to ensure my death. The sword and the ring emitted a killing light technique, that blinds the opponent, but draw them closer at the same time. Whispers filled the air and it’s also making me lose my focus.
“Feel the sword and let its power become one with you…”
A clear, melodically feminine voice rang through the air.
“Who are you?” I asked
“I’m your guardian, just listen to me and you’ll be safe…” The voice replied, but I saw no mortal in the area, only beasts.
“Why can’t I see you?” I whispered in thin air
The wind blew indifferently, making the leaves dance and the trees bend. The moon was fading, as dawn was almost over.
“I’m only in your consciousness…” The voice spoke once again
“How will I win this battle? There are like hundreds of them.”
“Believe in your strength, you need to survive till the sun shines…”
“Why?” I asked again, but got no reply from the voice inside my head.
Before I could prepare the first ten ugly beasts came to me, they have different ways of thinking and they have a couple of patterned moves in fighting. While the rest of the beasts stayed to watch from the sidelines, hungrily preparing if I get to slain one or if they get to slain me.
‘Let the sword and I become one’
I thought of it deeply, before reaching out to the sword to accept my energy and let me use its reserved energy. The sword reacted as the first beast landed a horrifying large blade like arm on me. Untimely clashing it with my sword, installing time for the second beast to give me 10 needle-thin like spikes. I abruptly dodged the thorns as I highly jumped on the air, letting these thorns hit the first beast as well as the other seven beasts surrounding me. To my surprise, those needle like spikes turn creatures into stones before they break into dust. Two more, but unexpectedly, another batch of ten beasts came forward to attack me.
The beast that releases spikes continuously fire spikes at me, hitting his own mates and me taking it to my advantage while I was running in circles. But one of the beasts suddenly attacked with the use of a black liquefied substance that smells like petroleum products, but it looks like an octopus’ fluid, one that’s very poisonous and concentrated. Thankfully not one drop came to me, but the beasts that have been in contact with the fluid burned to ashes, thankfully eliminating 20 beasts.
I hope the sun’s rises as soon as possible without cumulus clouds covering the sky or a thick fog.
I held my sword and slashed through the beasts and evidently cutting it in half. I smiled, but an indifferent roar caused the ground to shake. The little beasts moved back and some ran away. The cave behind me illuminated a blue light, too mystical yet too overbearing. The enemies changed their forms into a more scaly skin, bloody red eyes and a more sharper defensive body parts. Instead of taking a break, they became more aggressive as all of them tried to fight with me in one strike.
The sun slowly rose…
The waters started to freez…
The wind became more chilly…
I was cut through, my robes became unrecognisable. My hair was in a mess, and I have uncountable wounds in my body. Everything feels sore and blood tricked from my forehead. I was heavily panting, yet an hour has not passed through since the fight began. Bruises filled my body with different colours.
Why was everything in slow motion?
The claws reached my belly, carving a deep wound, but not enough to see my organs. I spit more blood from my mouth, as I held my sword tightly. My right knee was bended as I fell backwards.
