The Legendary Actor - Chapter 30
Even in the wee hours of the morning, there is a constant stream of passengers arriving and departing at the airport, and the 24-7 lights are like an eternal beacon, guiding the way home and out.
LAX is one of the most important transportation hubs in the world, and even more so, thanks to its location being in Hollywood, where tourists, journalists, celebrities, and businessmen are always coming and going.
When Renly landed, there was a flurry of activity as passengers flocked in the same direction, and even those who weren’t, stood there sharing the latest news that Robert Pattinson had just arrived in the City of Angels, the “handsome vampire” who has become a global phenomenon with his Twilight series.
In contrast, Renly, who has just finished shooting “The Pacific”, is a completely unassuming dude who is just walking around the airport without any external pressure.
In fact, “The Pacific” was completed in mid-January 2010, but Renly did not follow the crew directly back to the North America. He stayed in Australia, rented a jeep, and headed towards the Gold Coast in search of adventure. It took more than three weeks to cross half of the Australian territory, and arrive at the sunny, clear Gold Coast.
For Renly, performing is important, and enjoying life is even more important. Working hard and playing harder is his motto in life.
On the Gold Coast, Renly spent three weeks learning to surf with young Australians; scuba dive with a French girl who was around his age; go fishing with a South African guy who had traveled the world; dig for pearls with a beautiful Brazilian girl who was in college; and share his experiences with a Chinese guy who came to visit there as well …. He even got a part-time job in a nearby surf store and became a real fake native of the village.
Three weeks was still too short a time, and Renly would have liked to stay longer if he could, but with St. Patrick’s Day coming up, the Irish holiday celebrated every year with a huge event in New York City, this would be Renly’s first time in New York having it, so he planned to return to New York before St. Patrick’s Day.
So, with a connecting flight in Los Angeles, Renly finally left the jealousy-inducing sunshine of the Southern Hemisphere and returned to the North American continent after seven months.
“Ahhhh, there he is, there!” A group of young girls came bustling over, and Renly had to lean to the side to make way for them, and then saw a dozen or so people whizzing by like a swarm of bees, chasing after them not far away, their feverish madness enough to make everyone around them feel the power of their idols. The sect is strong with this one.
Is Robert still in the airport, not out of the gate yet?
Renly pondered over in a quiet place to rest, the connection was long and the flight to New York was still two hours away; he didn’t want to watch the fanatics chase Robert around the airport; it looked like a cat-and-mouse game. More like hungry felines and a sexy shovel-like looking mouse game.
Looking around, Renly found a small supermarket, with only twelve shelves in a cramped square space, selling basic food and beverages. Compared to those coffee shops and burger stores, this is a remote corner, surrounded by only three gates, with not too many passengers on standby at the moment. Very quiet indeed, at least you can’t hear someone fervently scream Robert.
Renly walked to the back of the potato chip shelf.
He sat down cross-legged next to the fridge full of alcoholic beverages.
This was his habit in his last life, and he liked to sit down in the corner of the supermarket. Because the large supermarket, except for the checkout area, always seemed very empty and quiet, but not too silent, and the voices of customers and staff could always be heard, the trivial chatter, complaints and gossip, from the left ear in and right ear out, always added some spice to the quiet atmosphere.
Compared to the library, which was occupied by lovers, and the bookstore, which was occupied by young people pretending to be artists, the supermarket’s strong sense of life made him feel peaceful. Sometimes, he would even bring his college project to the supermarket to finish, or prepare for an exam in silence.
He knew that this was a very strange habit, but it was the only one in which he felt peace. After his rebirth, that habit remained. His brother, Arthur Hall, said that the supermarket was his secret room, where he could hide all his secrets, except that he could not do anything indecent there.
After sitting down, Renly put on his earbuds, listened to the music, took out Paul Ekman’s “Telling Lies: Clues to Deceit in the Marketplace, Politics, and Marriage” from his backpack, and started to read.
In fact, Renly is not a person who likes to read books, he always felt that reading books is a bit exhausting, and after the advent of smart phones, electronic books have gradually replaced paper books. But after rebirth, unbeknownst to him, the habit of reading books gradually developed. It was apparent from his interest in the book he was holding.
The “Telling Lies: Clues to Deceit in the Marketplace, Politics, and Marriage” is a psychology book, used by the American universities as an important teaching material for criminal investigation. Not as boring as it seems, on the contrary, Renly read with great relish. Now a new door has opened, isolating the hustle and bustle of the airport. Even the passage of time is no longer traceable.
Jennifer Lawrence almost ran into a trash bin to avoid the rampaging “teenage fans”, but her last-minute maneuver saved her from getting covered in whatever there was in that bin, but she still hit the wall next to her, and her back hurt a little.
Jennifer let out a sigh of relief as she watched the crazy fans walk away. When she saw her idol, she was of course bound to scream, jump, and turn in circles; but it was annoying to see others rushing around the airport in pursuit of their idol, and even disrupting public order.
“Where the hell is the charm in that shovel face?” Jennifer is puzzled, she likes Robert De Niro and Meryl Streep, because their performances can always bring something. But Robert Pattinson?
Shaking her head to get rid of the question marks, Jennifer continued to walk forward and finally saw a market not far away, she felt like dying of thirst, if she didn’t find a convenience store, she would probably rush to the bathroom and open the faucet to drink water from there.
The market was much smaller than she had imagined, but at least she could buy water, and that was enough. A simple light blue shirt and dark blue jeans, with a khaki work jacket on a backpack next to it, the sleeves rolled up to the elbows casually. All of it looked somewhat unconventional.
At that moment, the young man was reading a book placed on his lap, which made Jennifer nod inwardly, guessing that he was probably French or British, but probably not American.
However, before she could move on, Jennifer had to stop in her tracks because the young man was sitting right in front of the freezer, blocking the door.
After thinking about it, Jennifer went to the young man’s side and looked around carefully, and sure enough, the fridge door was completely blocked. It was impossible to get around the young man. This made Jennifer curse a little – the airport was so big, any place could have been a place to sit, but this guy chose the supermarket to sit down. Is he that liberal? Is this dude Spanish?
Gathering her thoughts, Jennifer coughed lightly twice in an attempt to get the young man’s attention, but the other man didn’t move at all, she thought, and coughed a little louder, “Sorry, you’re blocking the fridge door, can you move out of the way, I need to get a bottle of mineral water.” Although she had some complaints in her heart, she still said politely.
However, the other party remained indifferent, not only refusing her request, but not even intending to respond, which made Jennifer frown – this was really rude! The good impression that she had of him just plummeted, and even if he was reading a book in his hand, so what, it was still rude.
“Hello, man.” Jennifer raised her voice again and said solemnly, “You’re blocking the fridge door.” The words, while still polite, became concise, and it was clear that her patience was wearing out.
Jennifer couldn’t help but stare at the young man who was still focused on his reading, plainly ignoring her presence and not even making a move to look up. First she encountered the group of clueless teenage fans, then she encountered a rogue sitting in the supermarket. Anger burning in her chest, Jennifer did put her hands on her hips, her face directly staring down, “Sir! How can you be so uncivilized as to just sit there in front of the fridge and ignore the needs of other customers, this is not only uncivilized, but can even be considered inappropriate and overbearing behavior, you must realize that this is completely wrong! You’re reading books right now, and I can guess that you’re not really one of those uneducated barbarians, so …”
Jennifer realized that he was being completely insensitive and still indifferent. Her anger broke right through the last line of her mental defense, “The least you could do is show enough respect and keep your head up while I’m talking! Sir! I say, sir!”
The situation, it seems, is getting out of hand.
