The Legendary Actor - Chapter 44
The concept of a premiere has been around for a long time, but it wasn’t until the simultaneous world premiere of the Star Wars prequels that it took on special meaning.
Nowadays, the premiere is a highly commercialized ceremony, with the wealthy crew spending tens of millions of dollars to create an effect, inviting reporters, celebrities, and fans, truly turning it into a show, an important part of the PR process, and a preparation for the commercial success of the film.
Considering that TV series and movies are far from being in the same level, the only TV series premieres in the world were exclusively from the two productions of HBO – “Band of Brothers” and “The Pacific”; not only that, the ceremony was also held in Hollywood’s hottest and biggest premiere venue, Chinese Theater. Tom and Steven’s appeal to the industry is evident from the fact that they are two one of the biggest names in the business.
However, these are only paper strengths, and in the end, hearing about them is still not enough to feel the reality, and it was only when the grandness of the entrance of Chinese Theater came into view that Renly truly understood the significance of this premiere.
A black limousine parked outside, a huge crowd stood on the pedestrian crosswalk on both sides of Hollywood Boulevard, the spacious four lanes of which had been turned into two lanes with iron railings.
The crowd held posters of “Band of Brothers” in their hands and filled the sidelines, giving people a deep impression that even after nine years, the series was still being very popular. Occasionally, you can see posters of “The Pacific”, but not really many character posters which almost drowned in the familiar faces of “Band of Brothers”.
After passing Kodak Theatre and Captain’s Theater, the roof of the iconic temple of Chinese Theater appeared in the line of sight, and a red carpet of less than fifty yards was paved between the two stone lions at the entrance.
There were numerous reporters standing neat and tidy on both sides of the red carpet, and rows and rows of well-placed apertures were aimed at the center of the runway, with a lineup of over sixty reporters blocking the line of sight.
The grandeur and majesty of Hollywood unfolded in front of people like a scroll.
It was just the premiere of a television play, though, and yet.
After taking a deep breath, Renly opened the car door and stepped on the soft red carpet, feeling the real touch of his feet on the ground, he raised his hand to button up his suit, straightened his back, and then stepped out on his first red carpet journey.
By now the red carpet was buzzing with activity as David Nutter and Jon Seda could be seen in the distance just walking up the curb steps, stopped by a reporter on the left for a brief interview, apparently arriving just before the blue ceremony.
The red carpet on the right was now ablaze with heat as Ron Livingston, Donnie Wahlberg, Kirk Acevedo, and others gathered around there.
These are all the “Band of Brothers” cast, who were not expected to attend the premiere today. In the middle of the crowd, Renly happened to catch a glimpse of Alexander Skarsgard, and thought that, that dude was dazzling, but then he saw the petite figure of Anna Paquin, surrounded by reporters and smiled brightly.
It’s only then that Renly realizes that the entire cast of another popular HBO series, “True Blood” has banded together for the occasion.
He was surrounded by a flurry of people from all over the world and could not even find his footing in the crowd. Should he just hangout with the crowd on the side? Or maybe he should go to the front and talk to the press? Or else just go to the front of the theater and stand with the rest of the cast?
Without agent’s guidance, Renly had the feeling of being fish out of water, as if the screams and shouts of the fans at … didn’t belong to him, as if the aggressive and proactive reporters didn’t notice him, and as if he couldn’t blend in with the tidal wave of the red carpet.
The strange feeling of loneliness swept over him. However, Renly did not panic in his footsteps, and kept moving forward in an orderly and calm manner. As a complete newcomer, he probably couldn’t be even named by the reporters, not to mention the audience, so this kind of treatment is perfectly normal.
When he thought of this, the smile on his lips slowly grew, the awkward detachment gradually disappeared, and he began to gradually adapt to the atmosphere and rhythm of the red carpet. The feeling of standing under the limelight was not bad, really.
As soon as Bradley Adams finished his interview with David Schwimmer, a few reporters swarmed over.
The actor’s career has been dormant since the end of “Friends” with “Band of Brothers” being his only known film, but he’s more often than not behind the scenes nowadays.
Bradley lowered his head to check the photos in his camera, flipped through them, and then lifted the camera again to the beginning of the red carpet, waiting for the next interview-worthy subject to appear. As a veteran reporter for the New York Times Entertainment section, his focus is naturally similar to that of Entertainment Weekly, USA Today, and TMZ. These entertainment and gossip media are different.
The camera shows a tall man in a green military suit, unique and distinctive in a subdued palette of black and gray, keeping with the theme of “The Pacific”. The solid black shirt was perfectly tailored to the suit! The man’s long, slender legs easily grabbed the attention of the eye; a head of ombre curly short hair with wax combed into a vintage twenty-eight, the whole face fresh and cool presented with confidence, the charm of the gestures produced by elegant hands, the sum of it all couldn’t be accurately described with words.
If he were to say that this man is incredibly handsome, many of the reporters in the room would have rolled their eyes at him as there was also Alexander Skarsgard, who also appeared on the red carpet, being the runner-up of last year’s Sexiest Man Alive ratings.
But Bradley couldn’t help but press the shutter in his hand, trying to capture the moment with film, as if … he was shooting the fireworks. Everyone loves the splendor of fireworks, but we also understand that they are fleeting, that we find the ultimate beauty in both joy and sorrow.
Who is him?
Bradley had a question mark in his head as he couldn’t stop the shutter from its work. When he realized that the man had gone too far, he subconsciously shouted, “Wait!” No response and no objection. The other man just wouldn’t stop, and the surrounding noise swallowed Bradley’s voice in the blink of an eye.
“You’re here!” That man now was quickly welcomed by Rami as he excitedly gave Renly a big hug, “I was just wondering when you would arrive.”
Rami wore a three-piece suit today, very formal, black suit, black vest, black tie, with a white shirt, a typical formal occasion dress, but the use of the vest is still a little ingenious.
Rami’s serious appearance, Renly could not help but laugh, “You look like you are going to court.” The ridicule made Rami roll his eyes in frustration, and before Rami could respond, a voice came from the side, “Rami, Rami!”
Bradley moved effortlessly as there were no reporters around who cared about Renly’s identity – the scene was too crowded for such an unknown face like Renly, even if there is something appealing about his appearance. In Hollywood, everyone’s appearance has its own characteristics, so why should journalists care? Even Marilyn Monroe went through a long period of obscurity for almost five years after her debut.
“Rami, aren’t you going to introduce me to this guy?” Bradley asked a quick question.
Rami, who didn’t really know Bradley, but recognized the “New York Times” logo on Bradley’s badge, smiled, “Renly Hall, one of the three stars of our show.”
Bradley’s eyes lit up at the simple introduction – the newcomer, the newcomer with no acting experience, the rumored name finally matching his own, the newcomer that Steven had spotted for the role of “The Pacific”! The starring roles in the supposedly greatest show on Earth were a huge hit. The news spotlight came out immediately.
But, before Bradley could continue, the red carpet ceremony began with an out-of-control scream and everyone brushed it off: Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg had arrived on the scene!
