The Legendary Actor - Chapter 45
Fans on both sides of the road were waving their posters, screaming and shouting; reporters on both sides of the red carpet were swarming towards the front, and the flashes were on, creating the illusion that they were going blind.
It was not until this moment that “The Pacific” premiere really hit its stride.
Bradley hesitated for a moment, struggled a little deep inside, and then abandoned Renly, following his peers as they crowded toward the start of the red carpet, adding one more flash to Tom and Steven’s hubbub.
While Renly was worthy of an interview and had plenty of gimmicks, Tom and Steven, who had hired Renly, were the real focus, not to mention that, Renly, was temporarily sidelined by everyone else in the room as well. The choice was a no-brainer for the reporters.
In the direction of the crowd, Renly also looked over at Tom and Steven, who were enveloped in a silvery light, and could only see the silhouettes, with no clear facial expressions at all, as they skillfully waved to the crowd around them.
The frenzy of the event truly showcased the meaning of “superstar”. Renly smiled widely and turned his head to exchange a glance with Rami, as if to say, “Big name – big game”
Rami stood on his tiptoes and yelled into Renly’s ear, “Next time you attend the premiere, remember to ask around in advance, and don’t pick the wrong time.” After the glittering debut, Tom went on and Steven followed closely behind, not to mention the newcomers, but even the top stars were eclipsed. The timing of Renly’s entrance was not wonderful indeed.
Still, Renly, as the star of the show, took it in stride, tugging down at the corners of his mouth and shrugging his shoulders in a way that made Rami laugh.
The two industry leaders became the center of attention, and the spotlight was cast on them as if they were shadows, as if the center of gravity was tilted, which gave Renly enough room to socialize.
Although the premiere was a little different from what Renly had imagined, with no spotlight, no cheers, and not even the enthusiasm of a press interview for him – it was more like a walk down the red carpet, a walk around, and then it was over.
In the blink of an eye, Renly made a lot of new friends.
“So, what was it like when you saw your father’s ding dong in the movie?” Alexander Skarsgard was stunned at Renly’s question, then slapped his thighs and laughed – his father, Stellan Skarsgard, was a Swedish actor of prestige and fame in Europe. Interestingly, four of his six children became actors, including Alexander.
The hunk realized that he was being rowdy, so he raised his hand to cover his mouth, “My sex education was from my father, who took me to watch R-rated movies together.
Compared to American actors, European actors have always been more liberal and frivolous about showing their bodies, purely as part of their art, which was one of the reasons for the difference in style between the two continents’ cinematic works.
“I’ve seen two Lars von Trier films, both starring Stellan. So I’m sorry, I know that I was a little rude,” said Renly. For most of the second and third generations of showbiz families, the most annoying thing for them is to be told about their family backgrounds. Once they enter the entertainment industry, what they can’t wait to do is to shed their family halo and make a name for themselves.
It’s true that Alexander doesn’t like people talking about his father, but he has to admit that Renly’s approach was so inventive that he didn’t feel offended or repulsed, “No, no.” Alexander laughed and shook his head, “The next time I call, I’ll tell my father about it.”
“Renly? Renly?” Just as Langley was about to ask Alexander some more, there was a sudden call from behind him, coming from a mic which made them both turn around and see the crowd make way – the voice came from the crew placement, and at the end of the passage was Tom and Steven, who were being interviewed by the media. As soon as Tom saw Steven widen his eyes, he immediately refocused on the carpet only to find Renly in non-standard but still inventive clothing. He waved his hand and smiled at Renly.
What was going on?
Renly, unsure of what to do, apologized to Alexander, then stepped away, passing Rami with a puzzled look, the latter giving him a big smile and spontaneous applause.
Applause? Why applaud?
Tom led the applause, and his voice spread through the stereo, “Ladies and Gentlemen, give our boy a little encouragement.” The applause and whistles rose and the flashing lights of the press caught Renly by surprise – he thought the premiere was almost over. Why did it feel like the climax was just beginning?
There were countless question marks in his mind, but Renly’s steps were very steady, not slow, but always with a kind of calm to them. He finally stopped beside Tom, nodded to Steven sitting next to him and said hello, and then he saw James Badge Dale and Jon Seda, who were one pace behind.
“This is Renly Hall, the anchor of the show,” Tom continued, “and as you know, “Band of Brothers” featured Damian Lewis as the main character; however, this time it’s a little different, as the story is told in three parts, but the character played by Renly is really the core of the show.”
The pressure surged and pressed down on Renly’s shoulders, as if they were bearing the weight of a mountain, and even his breathing stagnated a little.
He was nagging about the lack of attention in the back of the room one second, and the next he was the center of attention. He thought the premiere would be the end of the day, but the turn of events took him by surprise.
“Tom, James and Jon are watching from the back,” he said. Renly’s tone didn’t rise and fall, just a serious reminder, but people quickly responded, and suddenly the whole room was laughing, even Steven, who was standing next to him.
Bradley’s eyes lit up, and Tom’s actions said a lot – not only had he cast a newcomer as one of the three main characters in “The Pacific”, but he was pleased with the newcomer’s performance, which meant a lot. Raising his right hand high, Bradley got the first opportunity to ask questions.
“Tom, as far as I know, Renly is a complete newcomer who hasn’t done any work before, so why did you cast him as the Core?” Bradley put the emphasis on “Core” as the reporters began to expect an answer.
“In fact, Steven and I had an argument about whether to use Renly, and we both knew that starring a new guy would be a risk, maybe even a total fiasco,” Tom’s words managed to whet everyone’s appetite, “but it turned out that we made the right choice. Renly is a very special actor, his performance has a unique spirituality which is impressive.”
“Wow”, all the reporters were in an uproar. Tom’s praising attitude was really clear. The sights that fell on Renly’s body suddenly became complicated. Apart from envy and jealousy, they were also doubting, while some were expectant. People are always harsh on newcomers, in any industry at all times.
“Steven, what do you think?” Tom’s diverting question caused the reporters to brush their attention away.
With his hands clasped in front of his chest in a defensive gesture, Steven shook his body twice before saying, “”The Pacific” and “Band of Brothers” are two completely different productions, and the demands on the actors are very different. That’s why we were very careful in selecting the actors. It’s a gamble to choose a newcomer like Renly.” There was a slight pause, and the look behind the eyes sparkled, “But as Tom said, we chose wisely.”
Although not positively complimentary, Steven’s words undoubtedly carried more solid weight, which had all the reporters in the room buzzing with discussions.
In the midst of the much-anticipated “The Pacific” Renly instantly stood out as the center of attention. However, this was a double-edged sword, as the expectations and attention made people demand more, and if the final product was not satisfactory, then Renly, a newcomer with no foundation, would face relentless criticism and ridicule from the media.
The situation, of course, began to become interesting.
“Renly! Look here! Here!” The reporters in the audience shouted and rushed to capture the moment, but whether it was a moment of honor or a moment of humiliation, only the audience could judge.
