The Legendary Actor - Chapter 64
The meeting was over, Roy did not stay too long as he packed his things and left immediately.
Looking at the “Thor” script in his hand, Renly couldn’t help but smile, he could feel Roy’s good intentions, for a newcomer without an agent to take care of him, Roy just gave him a lot of guidance, this is very valuable information.
In fact, leaving aside the shackles of Marvel and the choice of commercial films, in fact, among the many series of Marvel’s comic book heroes, “Thor” is a series with the poorest box office results and feedback, not to mention when being compared “Iron Man”, “Captain America” and other titles, even the later “Ant-Man” has also achieved better results in terms of word of mouth, box office, return on investment.
The “Thor” released in 2011, 150 million investment, worldwide box office only achieved 449 million, not only did not make money, even let Paramount a small loss of nearly 20 million; later in 2013, “Thor 2”, thanks to the rise of Marvel, box office progress, 170 million cost for the global box office of 640 million, but because of the super-high publicity costs, Paramount only made a small profit of 30 million.
It can be said that the “Thor” series’ returns have been unsatisfactory and its global appeal limited, and Paramount would have given up on it if not for the entire “Avengers” universe.
From that perspective, Thor is not as attractive as Roy makes it out to be.
However, as a newcomer, it’s not a good thing to be so picky. If you miss your chance to be Thor, you never know when your next chance will come.
So, Renly still read the script of “Thor” carefully. The director’s job is to turn the script into a picture, while the actor’s job is to derive the character’s meaning from the script’s words.
For the next few hours, Renly hid in the background of Pioneer Village and quietly read the script.
As he recalled, the “Thor” script was lackluster, especially the characterization of Thor, which lacked the distinctive features of Iron Man and Captain America. However, Loki was still an interesting character, and the last “Thor” series didn’t give Loki enough room to shine, otherwise he has the potential to be the ultimate villain of the Marvel series.
But that’s not for Renly to decide, is it?
When he got back to his apartment, he turned on the lights in the lobby and looked around, but Chris Hemsworth still hadn’t returned, and his eyes fell on the script of “Thor” in his hands again.
So, has Chris been invited to audition for “Thor” as well? Or has Chris finished his audition and is waiting to be notified of the next round? If Renly had decided to enter the competition for “Thor”, how would things have changed? Did he and Chris become contenders?
This is the first time Renly is truly standing at the crossroad of fate, and the last time he can look at the future direction of the previous life so clearly. He would no longer be an observer, but a participant, a real participant. So, how much will the course of history change? How many hurricanes can he, this little butterfly from China stir up? This is really something to look forward to.
Renly smiled silly as he went back to his room. He put his backpack on the desk and tucked the script into the bookshelf next to him.
He walked into the bathroom to wash off today’s dust, and although he was used to leaving work in the wee hours of the morning, for Renly, sleep was a blessing, and it was good to be able to stay in bed a little longer – even if it was only for ten minutes.
When Chris Hemsworth opened the door of his house, the light in the living room indicated that someone was home, so he called out in a loud voice, “Renly? Renly?” This is New York, although it is Manhattan, but public security even in a downtown is not able to make people be at ease as every now then you might encounter burglary.
“I’m in the bathroom.” Renly shouted in reply to the voice through the thin walls.
Chris put his mind at ease, leaned against the door, and started going through the mail in his hand – Renly was a careless kind of guy, the mailbox was always jammed up at home, but Renly still didn’t remember to pick up the mail, so it would had to wait for Chris to take care of it.
Chris picked out the utility bills and put it next to the TV stand; then he picked out his own mail and Renly’s mail, and threw out all the rest of the junk mail.
“When did you get back? The bedrooms were all still empty last night.” Renly stepped out of the bathroom, wiping his hair as he leaned against the bedroom doorway and chatted inquiringly.
Chris glanced up, his hands picking out letters without stopping, “This afternoon, just got back from LA. After working with Sean Bean on “Cash”, he stayed in L.A. to work on his next film, but had little luck. Is everything going well at work?”
Renly shrugged, “Nothing has changed. I went to two auditions and didn’t win either.” There was nothing to hide, truth be told.
Chris laughed heatedly, “That’s why I refused to do the TV shows.” He pointed at Renly with the letter in his hand and said confidently, “Even if a TV series is successful, it still can’t attract the attention of a movie company, and once you’re stereotyped as a TV series actor, it’s difficult to turn it around later.”
“I remember that you also came out of a TV series.” Instead, the smile on Renly’s lips lifted slightly.
“True” Chris nodded, “True” After repeating it twice, “But those are all Australian things, and after I came to the U.S., I got a lot of offers for TV shows, but I turned them all down. Because I know that very well.” In fact, these were all told to him by his agent, but for Renly, who had no agent, it was his turn to pass on his experience, “Listen to me, even if you don’t have an audition invitation, never compromise, unless you’re already planning to stabilize in the TV drama industry, you’re only 20 years old, you have countless options.”
In a rare moment of solemnity, Chris’s words carried a lot of weight, “Take “The Pacific”. I’ve been in Los Angeles lately, and I’ve been hearing a lot about it, and it’s a really big hit, but all the attention is on Hanks and Spielberg, and no one is paying attention to the actors. That’s the dilemma with TV shows.”
