The Legendary Actor - Chapter 78
The commotion of the crowd finally subsided, and a student looking girl started came over, “It seems that you really are an actor, and a good one at that.” With a generous posture and a slight twinkle in her eye, “What’s your name?” Everyone in the chaos just now seemed to be shouting “Eugene Sledge”.
So far, the audience Renly has encountered has hardly cared about his name, but has uniformly called him by his “The Pacific” name. That’s normal, just as people still call Daniel Radcliffe “Little Harry” when they meet him, which is still good for new actors.
But no one wants to be stereotyped by a character.
“Renly Hall.”
The girl winked playfully, “Chanelle Laurent.” Also introducing herself, “You just gave a really wonderful performance, I think I’ll go back and find “The Pacific” and check it out, I hope I won’t be disappointed.”
Renly did a respectful chivalrous salute in response, which made Chanelle chuckle lightly. From the name, and from the accent, it was discernible that Chanelle should be French, and probably middle class – the French, like the English, have a fine lineage of surnames.
Chanelle didn’t say much, pinched her non-existent skirt, and bent her knee slightly as she stepped back on one foot, expressing her response in the manner of a royal princess. The jeans and T-shirt outfit did not ruin it in any way, but rather added a hint of youthful vitality.
With a turn, that golden ponytail made a wonderful arc, and Chanelle turned and left, walking briskly toward the crowd.
“Whew, at last I can breathe a sigh of relief.” Rodrigo wiped the sweat from his forehead and sat on the couch, breathing heavily.
Renly withdrew his gaze and sat back down, exclaiming, “Such a surprise.” Actually, before the show began, Renly was a bit worried. Performing in public was not difficult for him, but the excerpts from “Buried” required absolute silence, and if interrupted, the rhythm would be unbalanced.
Renly’s fears did come true, just not in the way he expected.
“I wouldn’t say it was an accident.” Rodrigo, however, held a different opinion, and sensing Renly’s surprised glance, he explained, “I mean, it’s true that people don’t know how to deal with such an unexpected situation, and it’s obviously not what we want to see; but, I’m not surprised by their reaction, because your performance was really amazing.”
Afterwards, Rodrigo gave it some serious thought, then nodded again in the affirmative, “Yes, amazing.”
It had been seven or eight minutes since the performance, and Rodrigo was now thinking about it again, but with a different feeling. It was an absolute pleasure to watch Renly’s performance. The naturalness of the performance seemed to be far from artificiality, and it was even impossible to guess the rhythm and pattern of the performance, but the spiritual shock was clear, especially in the retrospection after the performance.
“Thank you.” Renly accepted the praise without modesty and quite openly.
“In fact, I’m even more curious as to how you really understand the character of Paul, the whole story.” Rodrigo must admit that it’s interesting that Renly interpreted the story differently from the actor’s point of view. Of course, a large part of the reason for this is the specificity of “Buried” – it’s a one-man show script.
Renly shrugged, “If we work together, we can talk about it.”
Rodrigo was stunned, then laughed dumbly and nodded his head in acknowledgement, “Indeed.”
Renly was now reflecting on what he had just done, and technically the performance was incomplete.
Mainly due to the short preparation time, Renly’s understanding and construction of Paul’s character was still rough, and he often played the role in an expressive way, but in the process, he could clearly touch some of the ethereal feelings – why did Paul make such a choice? How did he feel after making the choice?
Renly felt he had caught a little bit of a tail, but it wasn’t clear. If given enough time, he is willing to continue to take his time to figure it out. Not just for this play, but for the whole work – this play is just a microcosm of the work, and the solid and accurate expressionist acting can often bring surprises, but when put into the whole work, the methodist acting’s understanding and interpretation of the character will become a thread, and this is the real test of Renly this time! .
It was a feeling of unfulfilment that made Renly’s lips dry and eager to read the script and build Paul’s life from the ground up.
Looking at Renly before him, Rodrigo had to admit that age was the last thing on his mind.
Indeed, Renly still looked too young, but the performance he gave showed plenty of substance, vicissitudes and intricacies, the weighty yet profound performance that outlined Paul Conroy’s character in a few words, and in less than two minutes, the power of acting truly shocked him, and he was already completely convinced without the need for extra words.
If it is decided that Renly will play the role, then Paul’s age can be changed slightly, from 35 to about 27, and the child’s age can be changed to one, so that only some work on the make-up will be needed and the character will be set up without problems.
What Rodriguez is looking forward to now is what kind of sparks will come out of the collaboration between the two of them. “I have forgotten to ask, how old are you this year?”
“Haha.” Renly burst out laughing straight away, “I thought we’d cleared that subject.” However, this time Renly wasn’t beating around the bush, the performance just now had been enough to prove his strength, and said generously, “Twenty.”
“… “Rodrigo could hear his jaw dislocate and looked at Renly with a startled look on his face, not knowing how to react.
“Rodrigo, someone’s coming to audition.” The voice from the front desk once again interrupted Rodrigo’s thoughts, and then he looked up only to be even more stunned, unable to react to his thoughts, his eyes out of focus as he searched the lobby for the source of the voice.
At that moment, the lobby of the hostel began to stir once again, with small mutterings, and a restless commotion as if a volcano was about to erupt, and then two figures were seen snuggling close and walking together.
The man on the left was tall, seemingly taller than Renly, with broad shoulders and strong muscles that made him stand out from the crowd, easily attracting the attention of the surrounding, and a handsome face with a sunny smile, as if a naturally luminous body.
The woman on the right is tiny and cute, her arm wrapped around the man’s waist, a white shirt can’t cover up that exquisite and proud figure, a dark red curly hair looked feminine and sexual, with a demeanor of a lazy cat.
The two people standing together, no need for words, immediately became the focus. Obviously, the two of them are already used to such treatment, and their relaxed posture naturally has an inexplicable atmosphere. The young people in the lobby were talking in low voices, and after all, they did not step forward, as if the dazzling halo of the couple became an invisible obstacle.
Renly turned his head and saw someone coming at a glance. They were Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson. The two were married in late 2008, and are considered a low-profile couple in the world of Hollywood fame and fortune. Prior to this, Scarlett’s career was booming and always on the rise, while Ryan’s was unknown; however, the success of his two films last year put Ryan in the public eye, and it was Scarlett’s career that took a brief hiatus after “Vicky Cristina Barcelona”.
Unexpectedly, Ryan actually showed up in person. Renly wasn’t sure how far the conversation between Ryan and Rodrigo had gone, but it was clearly not a positive sign – after all, Renly’s fame and popularity were far less impressive than Ryan’s, and Ryan was Rodrigo’s first choice initially.
Even less expected was the fact that Scarlett was accompanying Ryan, which, in the absence of reporters, meant that Scarlett had come to cheer up for her husband. This certainly gave Ryan further leverage – could anyone say no to Scarlett?
The influence of Ryan and Scarlett was much clearer and more direct than that of Renly, a fledgling, and everyone in the lobby could accurately identify both, especially Scarlett – as the new age Marilyn Monroe with her influence has spread all over the world. The commotion in the lobby was a mixture of excitement and wonder.
This was not good.
The timing of Ryan’s appearance was just too sensitive, exactly at a point where Renly and Rodrigo were talking further, and Renly was not able to land the role with a bang. Now, everything had to be re-planned again.
Renly adjusted his breathing to calm the emotional turmoil, then stood up voluntarily, smiled at Ryan and Scarlett, and prepared to say hello. Now that the rivals had met head-on, Renly confronted them with his head held high, even though he knew he didn’t have much leverage in a fair and square duel, he had to go for it as the winner will be “Buried”.
He was not afraid of any challenge on this path of performance.
However, Ryan walked straight toward Rodrigo, ignoring Renly standing to one side, as if Renly was just a tourist in the hostel, like the rest of the audience in the lobby were, “Rodrigo? We finally meet.” Ryan extended his right hand toward Rodrigo and greeted him warmly, “I’m sorry I didn’t get in touch with you until now, believe me, I was even more anxious than you were. You see, I came straight from Los Angeles in hopes of having a face-to-face conversation, that’s how sincere I am.”
Rodrigo finally came back to his senses at this point, his eyes shining with incredible excitement.
