The Legendary Junkmaster - Chapter 127
With Syssie’s help, Jason identified the parts of different reports that could be handed over to the researchers. Although they deliberately chose the parts about the serum that would still not give the Empire a clear picture once the researchers cracked it. They would have to put in more work on their end to fill in the gaps.
This way, Jason could maintain his lead on the subject for a while. Or so he hoped. He could not afford to underestimate the researchers it would be assigned to. Although they would work separately from each other, it would still be a team. While Jason only had Syssie and himself to rely on.
It was inevitable that they would eventually close the gap between them. Jason could only hope that it could stall them long enough for him to make some actual headway. Jason smiled as Sentinel seemed pleased with the pile of papers that Jason prepared.
Although, it surprised Jason to see that Sentinel had come to collect him with a few empty boxes in hand to store them in. He had half been hoping that some of these papers would get lost or destroyed in transit. Once the papers were safely stored, an object flew from Sentinel’s belt.
The strange machine unfolded into a large metal box. One that could store the cardboard ones with no difficulty. Jason could not help himself from studying the devices that allowed it to fly. There were several thrusters on the underside that allowed it to steer and follow safely behind Sentinel.
‘I guess he has his Power to thank for that. I wonder if I can create something similar.’ Jason hummed as he considered the utility of such an item. It would certainly make travelling a heck of a lot easier. Although, the slight noise that the thrusters gave off may attract wildlife.
‘If there’s way to silence it, then maybe…’ Jason’s train of thought was broken when he realised Sentinel was staring at him with an odd look. ‘Ah, I’m wasting his time…’
Jason cleared his throat with an awkward cough. “Sorry… I was just interested in it. I can’t help myself sometimes.”

-Antihero]
“Don’t worry about it.” Sentinel waved his hand as if it were no big deal. “That’s exactly how people like yourself and I should be. We can’t advance unless we search out new ideas.”
Sentinel let out a soft chuckle that made Jason feel more relaxed. He had to admit that it was nice that they had a fair bit in common. However, that was probably down to them possessing similar Powers. ‘At least he gets me.’ Jason heaved a gentle sigh as the corners of his mouth curled up.
A few seconds later, Sentinel turned to lead Jason out of the Nest. They took the same path that they had used when they entered, but Jason felt regretful that he did not get the opportunity to explore some more. He was convinced that there was a plethora of secrets and other things that could stimulate his creativeness hidden inside some of the rooms.
It was only when they reached the front doors of the aquarium that Jason suddenly froze in fear. Memories of what was hiding in the fog outside jumped to the forefront of his mind. ‘Fog Crawlers…’ Jason’s eyes darted from left to right as he tried to spot any unusual shapes in the fog.
Sentinel noticed his hesitation as he scanned the fog using his cybernetic eye. “Don’t worry, there’s nothing there.”
“That’s what you said last time…” Jason’s voice almost cracked as he mumbled those words.
Sentinel heard the words that Jason mumbled clearly and scratched his chin out of embarrassment. Truth be told, his cybernetic eye could not see much deeper into the fog than a regular one. He was just trying to keep Jason calm. ‘One day, I’ll have to find out what’s creating this fog. The boy is right to be afraid of it.’
Sentinel had speculated long ago that there was probably a large beast hiding out there that had turned this area into its own domain. He was almost certain that the fog was not a natural occurrence. But whatever was out there creating it had never revealed the slightest trace of its existence.
‘Could it be hiding in the water?’ Sentinel wondered if the creature was just hibernating or hiding away. If it was the former, then one day, he would have to be concerned about travelling out here. The fog would become a danger zone that even he would be uncertain of surviving in.
But, if it was the latter, it would mean the creature was docile. Well, either that or Jason and he were of no interest to it. For now, he could only focus on the known threat. He attempted to display his confidence by stepping into the fog, showing no trace of fear.
However, his cybernetic eye was constantly scanning the fog in front of them. He had to admit that the area was strangely quiet. Usually several Fog Crawlers would wait for him to resurface. They were used to his routine by now.
Whenever they spotted him, he would disappear inside the structure for several days before revealing himself again. That had always been the best chance to grab an easy meal. But this time, there was no sudden ambush. The fog was eerily still. It was not even swirling with the breeze that usually passed through the area.
‘Hm? There’s no breeze?’ Sentinel raised an arm to feel the air current as he paused in his steps. ‘There’s always a breeze…’
Sentinel’s mind raced as he tried to identify what could possibly be different. With this area being so close to the coast and a large body of open water, it made no sense for there to be no wind at all. He turned his head to warn Jason that something may be wrong and that they had to be extra careful.
However, Jason was frozen in fear with a horrified expression on his face. He had barely stepped out of the aquarium when he noticed the same strangeness that Sentinel had. However, he knew more about it than Sentinel did. After all, one of the reports Syssie had scanned appeared in his mind…
