The Legendary Junkmaster - Chapter 95
Jason froze for a moment as the stampede began. Every team rushed off to find a good spot to set up an ambush or create a defensive base. Jason cursed as he joined the crowd rushing into the training ground.
He studied the buildings all around him only to notice that they were in a deplorable condition. Many of the walls had holes, scorch marks and other signs of being involved in heated battles. ‘It looks like this place has seen better days.’ Jason thought as he noticed a few teams splitting off from the pack.
‘I’m at a disadvantage. It looks like they’re used to the landscape, so they should already have solid plans in place that work for their Powers. What should I do?’ Jason was feeling a little lost. He had never experienced something like this before. Instead, he usually had time to plan out his approach and take his opponent’s unaware.
As Jason was lost in his thoughts, he felt something strike his left side hard. Someone next to him shouted in pain as he held his hand. When he turned to see what had happened, he noticed five cadets spread out in a semi-circle behind him while their sixth member tried to back away from him in fear.
Jason suddenly grinned when he realised what had happened. This team of unfamiliar faces had tried to take him by surprise and failed miserably. ‘I guess he must have Super Strength or something similar.’ Jason thought as he eyed the youth who was holding his shattered hand in confusion.
This was part of why Jason had used a mechanical exoskeleton covered in armour over his own body. It was so that people who had a physical advantage over him could not end the fight in a single move. The sheer weight of the Infinity would make it difficult for anyone to casually knock it off balance.
Jason ran a hand over the area that the cadet had struck and discovered a small dent. ‘He packs a solid punch. If that had been my body he hit instead, I would have a few broken ribs right now.’
Jason eyed the other five members as the sounds of the rest of the platoon slowly faded. It seemed like this particular team had been left to deal with this on their own. Which made sense to Jason. Each team would probably leave behind a scout to gather information on his Power so that their respective teams could come up with a plan to deal with him.
As Jason stared at them, he noticed that they seemed to be on edge. Nobody else attempted to use their Power against him, which confused Jason. It would make sense for those with ranged abilities to unleash everything that they had on him right now.
Jason grew impatient and took a step towards the woman in the centre of the formation, only for her to take a step back. ‘Don’t tell me, they all have physical Powers?’ When nobody had fired something off at him when he stepped forward, Jason concluded that they were all melee fighters.
‘In that case, then the guy who struck first should be the strongest.’ He turned his head to look at the cadet with a broken hand. ‘This’ll be easy then!’
Now that he had a grasp of what he was dealing with, Jason activated the RDB’s engines and suddenly accelerated towards his target! The sudden burst of speed caught the cadet off guard as Jason rammed his shoulder into his opponent’s chest! The cadet felt like he had been hit by a freight train as the impact launched him through the air to crash into the building’s wall behind him.
There was a sickening crunching noise as he collided with the wall. ‘He should be out of the fight now.’ Jason smirked from the safety of the Infinity. The sudden brutality that Jason had unleashed on their teammate gave the other five a fright. One of the boys even had tears in his eyes as he glanced towards the wall.
‘You’d think I just killed their friend! That tap should have only broken a few bones. Which is nothing worse than what would have happened to me if he had hit me without the Infinity!’ Jason suddenly felt like he was the bully here despite having been surrounded by six people.
‘I can’t use the RDB’s again. I have to save fuel in case I need them later on. I’ll just have to see if they’re willing to fight it out.’ Jason ran towards the nearest boy whose fists took on a metallic look to them when he realised that he was next on the chopping block!
Jason threw a punch towards the cadet’s head, but he blocked it with his forearms. A metallic sound rang out, which told Jason that the boy’s Power covered more than his fists. Jason dropped his stance lower and swung an uppercut into the cadet’s abdomen.
There was a loud coughing noise as Jason’s fist connected with something soft. ‘So it’s just his arms then?’ Now that he had confirmed the cadet’s weakness, he lashed out with a kick to his opponent’s ribs. Breaking three of them on contact! The boy dropped to the ground as he screamed in pain.
‘Two down.’ Jason turned to look at the remaining four, who seemed to realise that they had to work together.
There was no room for them to attempt to escape. The speed that Jason had displayed initially meant that turning their backs to him would not result in a pleasant experience. Of course, these cadets had no idea that Jason was limited in how many times he could use it.
The four of them came at him together, throwing wild attacks at his armour. Jason barely had to defend himself. None of them was even capable of leaving a dent in the Infinity. Jason sighed as he retaliated during their attacks to catch them off guard. Two of them were knocked unconscious as his fist connected with their jaws. One of them ended up with a fractured hip when Jason kicked her, and the last one attempted to run.
However, she was too close when she turned her back to Jason, who grabbed her hair and slammed her face into the concrete ground. Jason felt disappointed by this first real combat test, and now he felt eager to find his next victims.
Dani stared down at the scene from a window above where Jason had just fought. She had seen how the entire fight had gone down. Then without a sound, she disappeared…
