The Legendary Junkmaster - Chapter 98
Jason rolled over and ducked behind a column to put another layer between himself and Michelle’s energy beam. He kept cursing as he explored the damage to the Infinity using his hands and line of sight.
The energy beam had struck his left side, rending a hole in the air tank on that side and straight through the front! The blast had been inches away from tearing a hole right through Jason’s actual body, which infuriated him. Chemicals fizzled as they ran down the front of his armour.
Two of the containers inside of the chest plate that held different poisons had been completely destroyed. The leaking substances would leave a trail behind him wherever he went until they ran dry.
Jason assessed the overall damage as he steadily got to his feet. Some of the wires and sensors that controlled the armour’s movements and some mechanical parts had been devastated. His left side was dangerously close to becoming unresponsive, which would turn him into a sitting duck!
Jason grit his teeth as he prepared himself mentally to dive into a brutal fight. His current situation was no longer to his benefit. If he continued to try and wait them out, Michelle would eventually hunt him down with brute force.
He shouted within the confines of the Infinity as he ran out from behind his cover. The damage that Michelle had done had caused a section of the wall to collapse and create a new, larger exit. Jason automatically headed for this hole, hoping that one of Dani’s teammates would be standing near it on the other side.
The second he escaped the building, a wave of fire came from his right side while ice spikes were launched from his left. Jason felt a stinging pain in his left ribs but did his best to ignore it as he scanned the nearby area for Michelle.
His eyes landed on Dani, supporting Michelle’s weight on her shoulder while punching the latter in the gut. Jason immediately understood what their plan had been when he saw this bizarre situation. Michelle was using her own teammates to provide the kinetic energy needed for her energy beam!
Jason growled as more flames licked across his visor. He was done playing around! Jason crossed his arms over his chest to fire his flamethrower at Amy on his left and shoot darts at Harry on his right.
Jason’s flamethrower shattered the next round of ice projectiles that Amy had just unleashed. Causing a hot steamy mist to cover her as his flames gave her a lovely new bald hairstyle. The steam and flames combined created a highly uncomfortable situation for Amy as her skin was scalded first and then barbecued.
Needless to say, the pain was too much for her to bear as she squealed and writhed on the ground. However, to her credit, she did manage to stay conscious through it. Although, that was probably not a good thing considering the situation she was in.
Harry, on the other hand, took a quadruple dose of acid injected directly into his body. Jason did not even bother to look in his direction as he already knew what the outcome was when the flames stopped coming for him. He did not feel bad about using these methods at all.
After all, Dani’s team had gone the extra mile first when Michelle’s energy beam had very nearly pierced his heart. Which would have killed him outright. There was a good chance that the Guardian’s had someone who could fix severe injuries like those he had just inflicted on these poor souls.
Michelle’s expression became panicked when she realised that Jason had just taken down two more team members. There was no way that Dani would be able to refill Michelle’s Power in time, and they both knew it.
“Go!” Michelle shoved Dani away from her in an attempt to get her to escape. “I can’t get away, but you can! Just run!”
Dani’s expression became odd as she looked from Michelle, who could barely stand on her own with great difficulty, and Jason, who looked like he had fought his way through hell. After a moment of hesitation, she placed herself between Jason and Michelle to protect her comrade.
“What are you doing!” Michelle complained as she winced in pain from her half-melted foot that Jason had damaged earlier.
“Look at him!” Dani replied in a stern voice. “He may have made it through everything we could throw at him. But it doesn’t look like he can last much longer. I don’t even think he realises that one of Amy’s projectiles slipped through that hole you made! I bet he’s bleeding out inside of that tin can of his.”
Michelle looked towards Jason and realised that Dani was right. Much of the paint on the Infinity was already gone, and the bright metal beneath was now blackened beyond belief. There were obvious cracks in the armour that protected their opponent, which gave them a reason to hope that they could bring him down.
“Have you got enough in you for a short pulse?” Dani asked with a low voice to stop Jason from overhearing her.
Michelle paused for a second as she analysed how much energy she had stored. “Just about.”
“Good. I’ll keep him distracted. The second you get a good shot, take it. Don’t worry about me.” Dani’s plan was simple. She would teleport behind the man known as Ouroboros and strike at him through the hole in his armour. Forcing him to fixate his attention on her.
From that position, she would be able to see when Michelle let off her attack. Giving Dani enough time to teleport out of there to safety. The two women steeled their nerves as they prepared to launch their attack.
Meanwhile, while they had their quick discussion. Jason had noticed that he had begun to feel quite faint. An intense pain ached from his left side, which was the only reason he was still conscious at this point. He instinctively knew he had to bet everything on one last attack…
