The Life of Maria Lewellin - Chapter 2
To make matters worse?
I don’t know how to describe the situation I’m in.
When I woke up, I was flustered to see that my soul was in someone else’s body. And that’s not all.
When I woke up in the body of a girl named Maria Lewellin, I started hearing animals talking.
Technically speaking, I could hear their innermost thoughts, for example, when I saw two sparrows sitting side by side….
[Sweetheart, you look prettier today-]
[Tell me with your eyes off.]
Or when I heard the conversation of cats on the street–
[Shall we steal Mister Tom’s fish today?]
I can hear what they are thinking even though they are not saying anything.
At first I thought I was going crazy so I got scared, but I gradually got used to it, thanks to Maria’s pet dog Boraeng-i.
I didn’t know why. It’s not clear whether it’s a side effect of being in someone else’s body or if it’s the natural ability of Maria Lewellin, the original owner of the body, but talking to animals was a lot of fun.
At first, I thought it was some kind of common skill in this world but turns out it’s not.
I once asked Uncle Jacqueline, “Do you know what sparrows are saying just now?” and he just looked at me with a confused expression.
Another more solid evidence was Boraeng-i.
[You’re the only person who could understand me.]
He said that to me with a nostalgic look while pleasantly wagging his tail.
[I don’t like hard bread, so I’d like a freshly baked, delicious bread. I also like sweet potatoes]
“Pft”
I burst out laughing.
After that, Boraeng-i and I became best friends. Time passed and I gradually got used to my life as Maria Lewellin.
6 months has already passed by since then.
◆◇◆◇◆◇◆
It’s been 187 days since I opened my eyes in this world.
Auntie Mary says it’s been a while since her daughter, Maria failed to come to her senses, anyway, it’s already been half a year already since I became Maria Lewellin.
(t/n: I’m not sure about this)
By the way, I’ve never heard of a place called [Larson Empire] before. I’m 100% positive that no matter how many times I turn the globe, I won’t be able to find such country.
This is because the lifestyle of the people in here is simply not considered “modern.”
First of all, the clothes in here resembles the medieval Western style, and there are no electricity as well. Of course, things like cell phone, computer, or a car are also nonexistent.
Sometimes I see people passing by outside the restaurant window, walking around diligently, and only those people who seem to have [I’m living well] written on their foreheads can ride horses while their servants acts as a mule for them.
So, did I moved to a different dimension? Or is this a virtual world?
I don’t know, but one thing is for sure. That I’m alive and breathing here right now.
Of course, I denied the reality at first, and I was very disappointed. Every time I went to bed, I prayed earnestly that I could go back to the present reality when I opened my eyes.
But it wasn’t just a damn dream after all. After a dark night, when I opened my eyes, I was still in Maria’s room, and I had to live as Maria Lewellin again.
In the end, I decided to just accept this situation that I’m currently in. After that, what I did was to learn the writings of the Larson Empire.
“…..so the God Atri… Atra Millan blessed the nations so that they can farm in fertile lands. And the crops can grow well with feet….huh?”
Ah. It’s rain, not feet.
(t/n: feet in korean is ‘bal’ while rain is ‘bi’ lols)
“The crops can grow well with the rain…so that… haaah.”
As I was reading the book, I let out a long sigh and threw my head down.
Read a few lines and sigh. Read a few lines and sigh again. I always had a hard time breathing whenever I read a book.
I was able to understand and speak the language of the Larson Empire from the moment I opened my eyes. I can even communicated with animals.
But I think God forgot to give me one skill.
That was the fact that I couldn’t read the letters.
The moment I realized this was when Auntie took me to the market with her and I couldn’t read a single thing.
In other words, I had to learn the letters to live in this country.
There was also a menu at the restaurant run by Auntie and Uncle, but I was so frustrated that I couldn’t understand anything written on it.
That’s why I was studying hard to learn Larson’s letters.
“Inhale….exhale… “
I took a deep breath and fixed my eyes on the book again. I managed to find where I stopped reading a while ago and started reading aloud.
“The crops can grow well with the help of feet, I mean the rain…”
How long have I been reading? I could finally close the book with a carefree mind since I already finished my daily quota.
The letters in this country were extremely difficult. It looks cursive and a bit similar to Arabic or Thai, and it’s so difficult to learn because the meaning of the words often changes completely depending on the location of the dot.
But on the one hand, it’s also a good thing since time flies in a blink of an eye whenever I read a book.

The restaurant run by Maria’s parents was very popular. Not only the regulars who live in the same village, but also the regulars who pass through the village stop by every day.
I only found out later why. It’s because you have to pass by this village, Adella in order to get to the empire’s capital, Hardel. That’s why this place is always lively and bustling with people.
Thanks to that, I felt like dying every day. I was so busy receiving and serving a flood of customers during lunch time, and I was often exhausted like I just fought to a war.
“Haaah… “
You survived well today, self.
After the last customer left, I wiped the sweat from my forehead with the back of my hand and heard a creak behind me. My expression hardened in a moment.
No way, are you kidding me? Lunch time is over now.
However, there was no way I could get out of this unpleasant premonition. In the place I turned my attention to, three distracted men were getting ready to sit on the table near the door.
‘Are they travelling hunters?’
The men were wearing animal skins, and each of them had an axe and a spear on his back.
I suddenly felt eyes on me so turned my head and saw Aunt Mary, standing inside the kitchen, looking at me with a serious expression
‘Why aren’t you serving them? ‘
Her eyes felt like they’re saying that to me so I forced a smile and nodded, and went at the table to take their order.
“What would you like?”
“We’d like to have three bowls of fried meat, please. I’ll also give you a glass of ripe wine.”
“Okay.”
I went back to the kitchen to say their order but the man’s voice were so loud that Aunt Mary was already standing in front of the big fireplace when I got there.
The food was made quickly. I put the dishes on a large wooden tray and took them to the table where the customers sat.
Then the big, one-eyed Mister, looked at me with a big smile.
“That little girl is very strong, haha.”
To be honest, Maria really have many hidden skills, and one of them is that she’s quite strong compared to her skinny and fragile body.
“Enjoy your meal.”
After serving with a smile, I went straight behind the counter and sat on a small wooden chair.
Aigoo my leg.
I was wandering around the restaurant for almost three hours without a break, and the sound of my pain naturally came out.
While patting my leg, and groaning in pain internally, and I could hear the words exchanged between the men.
I didn’t want to listen to it but the voice was so loud that I could hear it even when I don’t try to.
“Ah, have you heard it?”
“Heard what?”
“The story about the Crown Prince.”
“His Royal Highness, the crown prince?”
The inquiring voice was so full of curiosity. I glanced at them and held back my laughter.
A man in a nice blue hat like Robin Hood–by the way, he’s a million light years away from Robin Hood– was staring at his companion with an expression of interest with a fork in his hand.
“So what happened?”
“I heard that his majesty is having a problem with the black leopard he’s raising.”
“Wait, wait. He’s raising a black leopard?!”
Mister Robin Hood’s eyes widened. I was surprised too.
‘Raising a black leopard? Does that make sense? Or are you perhaps talking about a little cub?’
Excited by his friend’s reaction, Mister one-eye, shrugged his shoulders and spoke excitedly.
“Didn’t you know? The crown prince has been raising it for years since it was a cub, and it’s somehow as gentle as a cat in front of him, but it doesn’t show any mercy towards other people, however, I heard that it has been acting more violent these days. “
“Honestly, just hearing about that makes me shiver.”
“I’ve heard that all the servants who rushes to feed it dies. It’s only thanks to the steel cage that their hands haven’t got bitten off yet.”
Euk.
I unconsciously frowned when I imagined it.
Even the most courageous people can’t even feed it. How scary it would be to even rush in.
“I’ve heard it’s been in such a bad mood that hadn’t had a proper meal for a long time. That’s why, not long ago, the crown prince ordered to put up a poster in the capital.”
“What does the poster say?”
“It says that anyone who could cure the leopard, will be granted a wish. “

Hooooh so our MC did not transmigrated to a game or a novel huh? Interesting.
Oh and by the way. The people she’s referring Auntie and Uncle are the original Maria’s parents. I think she doesn’t consider them as her parents since she just got transmigrated in that world and not attached to them.
