The Lords Genes - Chapter 4 Training I
After class, Yang Jian went out for the local Virtual Battle Space. It was a government association where any Interstellar cultivator could spend time in virtual reality and battle against the various opponents that were made up entirely of data.
For a small sum, anyone would be able to enter the space as long as they had a Gene Score. With Yang Jian’s small amount of pocket money, it was even enough to go in there many times!
It was basically a free service!
Taking advantage of this, Yang Jian wanted to gain battle experience and strengthen himself in battle.
When he arrived, he received a free ID card from the reception desk. After getting a new ID in which he chose a random name to use, he arrived at a virtual pod and stepped inside.
Whoosh!
‘Welcome, Player ChickenNugget34.’
Those were the very first words he saw when he opened his eyes in the virtual space. Looking at himself, he wore an outfit that would leave one utterly speechless.
Yang Jian was dressed up in a chicken costume. White feathers, a large bright red comb, wings for arms, and chicken feet on his legs. The costume even came with its own beak, which also happens to be the only place that Yang Jian could see through.
“…”
“How am I supposed to fight in this? Well, I guess this will make things more challenging which may benefit me.” he thought after shaking his head.
Suddenly, while he was thinking, a screen appeared in front of him. After pressing a few buttons to choose the location of his battle, as well as the enemy he would face; Yang Jian prepared himself for battle.
‘3,2,1, begin.’
The virtual space he was in changed in an instant. From the green stage that seemed to come out of a digital movie, it changed into an abandoned laboratory.
In front of him, an alien species appeared. It was about the size of a human, however, its body was entirely grey. Long, sharp bone-like blades grew from its arms, legs, and even shoulders.
The enemy in front of him was a being from the Bone Demon race. Just as the name implies, they were a species whose bodies were made up almost entirely out of bones. Not only are the bones extremely sturdy, many times harder than steel, they can also freely change the shape of the bones on their arms, legs, and shoulders at will.
Fortunately, they couldn’t do so with their entire bodies, otherwise, it would be extremely difficult to defeat one.
Of the thousands of various races in the universe, the Bone Demons were ranked in the top three hundred in both battle prowess, and difficulty to kill.
Though, this list only applied to the human race. After all, there are many races with different advantages compared to the human race, which basically doesn’t have any talents that other races contain.
This meant that humans were ranked almost entirely at the bottom of the food chain in the vast universe. Anyway, the Bone Demon in front of Yang Jian only had a Gene Score of 0.1.
This was a rule that couldn’t be changed in the virtual space. Each time one enters the virtual space, they must start fighting from the lowest stage, until they couldn’t go any further. In other words, they would begin the first stage at 0.1, the second stage at 0.2 and so on forth.
The only thing that could be chosen by the user themselves, is what opponent they choose to fight, as well as the location of their battle. Since battles could be anywhere such as the land, the sky, space, or even the sea.
It was an ideal space to practice no matter the type of landscape, and be prepared in case such an occasion would appear.
In Yang Jian’s case, he had chosen for every battle to be against a random opponent, in a random location.
The Bone Demon which had a Gene Score of 0.1, was currently in its base form. In the blink of an eye, Yang Jian who was in the chicken costume appeared next to it and sent out a slap with his fist no, his wing.
Bang!
The Bone Demon was sent flying and crashed into the walls. As the walls shattered, the virtual space changed into another location. This time, the battlefield was on a planet that was covered in snow all year round.
The temperature of the planet also affected individuals in the virtual space. Yang Jian didn’t know how cold it was exactly, but he didn’t feel much of it. It was most likely due to the genes he had awakened, which are also the lower-tier versions of certain genes he should awaken once he strengthened his genes more.
Looking around, Yang Jian didn’t seem to find is opponent anywhere. Seeing that his opponent must be hiding by blending in with the surroundings, Yang Jian tried using a trick for the first time.
Yang Jian silently lifted his arm and touched the center of his forehead. Slowly, a fiery golden light was lit on his forehead. Removing his arm, a slit of golden light was slowly opening, to reveal something deep within.
After a few seconds, a magical third eye appeared on Yang Jian’s forehead. Even though it was weird for a human to have more than two eyes, Yang Jian’s third eye was anything but ugly.
The third eye that opened up on his forehead was magical. It gave off a majesty feeling if one were to look into it. Not only that, but it was also a truly beautiful eye. Besides that, it was extremely difficult to describe the eye.
Focusing on his third eye, which was also the first gene that he had awakened, Yang Jian looked around briefly. After a few moments, he noticed a figure hiding a few hundred meters away from his current location, waiting for an ambush if he were to pass by.
That’s right, it was the ability of Yang Jian’s third eye. It was a radar that could spot all living and nonliving things within a range of ten kilometers, of course, this number would increase as his gene grew stronger, but for now; it was still a powerful ability.
Closing his third eye, Yang Jian took off in his chicken suit, towards his opponent. Off in the distance, a single figure could be seen staying still, without any movement. It was, of course, Yang Jian’s opponent; an inhabitant of a planet called Noth 05X2.
The species somewhat resembled a yeti in human legends, however, they were the same size as humans; and could blend into their surroundings. The race was called Icemen by the human race. After being called that, it became a universal name within every race in the entire universe.
Not only were there various races, but there was also a universal language spoken by every race. Why was that? Even while other races went to war, there were also allies amongst the numerous races of the vast universe.
A universal language was created in order for every race to understand each other, whether friend or foe. Of course, there were also races that couldn’t speak, and instead only made strange sounds.
The icemen race, rather than yeti’s, resembled a gorilla. Just imagine a human-sized gorilla, with white fur around its body, leaving only a little bit of skin in certain areas. They could also be distinguished between other similar races as they only had a single eye.
As Yang Jian came closer, the iceman was alert. It had realized that the human before it knew its exact location. As a strong blizzard passed through, the iceman tried to take advantage of it to change its location.
“Want to hide? It’s too late.” a voice came out. Before it died, the iceman only saw a human-sized man in a chicken suit, before its life was lost.
In a matter of seconds, the virtual space changed from the snow-filled planet to an underwater within a large ocean. Looking around, Yang Jian guessed that he was roughly five hundred meters under the sea since it was only a virtual reality, diving gear automatically appeared on his face; enabling him to breathe underwater.
It was hard for Yang Jian to move around, his feet were moving to keep himself in place, while large currents of water forced its way around him. Where he was located, it was dark and hard to see. The only source of light was coming from above, where the surface lied.
Fortunately, he noticed his next opponent. A small fish-like being with a large fish head that stood like a human but around the size of a child, and had a trident in its hand was seen staring daggers at him.
The fishman with a Gene Score of 0.3, which was what he had in the past, stared at him aggressively. Underwater, was the territory of the fishman race. On land, they would be as strong as humans, while under the sea; they were five times stronger, faster, and tougher.
This meant that the fishman of 0.3, is currently equivalent to those with a Gene Score of 0.8. With Yang Jian’s Gene Score of 0.7, the matchup wasn’t too bad. Especially since he was underwater while dressed in a chicken suit, his movements would be slowed down by a large margin, while not being able to keep a stable footing.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
The fishman spoke in an unknown language. Yang Jian opened up the virtual space menu and chose a random weapon. In the blink of an eye, a long spear appeared in his hand.
The spearhead was about half the size of a human’s arm. The tip of the spearhead was three-pronged, otherwise, there was nothing special about the spear. With the spear in his hand, Yang Jian felt as though he had been using a spear for many years, even though it was the first time he had ever held one.
Holding the spear in his right hand, Yang Jian dashed through the water, to face the fishman that was swimming toward him at an unbelievable speed.
At the same time, two streams of water were being left behind their feet. The two figures moved at great speeds, which resulted in the torrents of water being left behind them. The fishman took the first move, its trident was pointed straight forward, aiming for Yang Jian’s head.
Cling!
Yang Jian’s spear stabbed into the gap between the trident’s three heads and turned it so that the trident would get stuck. With its trident stuck, the fishman tried to remove the trident from Yang Jian’s grasp.
Unfortunately, even though its natural strength was much greater than a human’s even on land, while underwater, it held no advantage over Yang Jian’s mighty strength. In fact, it was losing in terms of just pure strength alone!
Bang!
With a single kick, the fishman was sent flying backward by dozens of meters. Its trident was still with Yang Jian, who picked it up and threw it like a javelin.
Whoosh!
The fishman recovered as it grabbed its trident that was dashing through the sea at an incredible speed. With a single motion, it caught its trident and pointed it towards Yang Jian.
“Hahaha, this is great. I feel like some sort of memories are entering my mind while using a spear, this is interesting.” Yang Jian thought.
Whoosh!
His body moved through the water, as the two figures began to fight once again.
Bang! Boom! Ding! Ding!
The metallic sound of weapons clashing could be heard. Within a few breaths of time, Yang Jian and the fishman had exchanged over a hundred blows. As time went on, Yang Jian could tell that his spearmanship was improving at a rapid pace.
It was as though he had been using the spear for many years. As time went on, the fishman was slowly getting more and more overwhelmed by Yang Jian’s ferocious attacks.
After about twenty minutes had passed, Yang Jian felt satisfied with his progress and decided to end the battle.
Whoosh!
His body turned into a black shadow that suddenly appeared behind the fishman. In the blink of an eye, his arm had pierced through the fishman’s chest and crushed its heart completely.
As he won, Yang Jian was transported to another location, in order to face his next opponent.
