The Maid Dreams Of The Sunset - Chapter 38
As a gently flowing stream met a large river, and soon reached the sea, his avarice inflated and grew endlessly. The combination of desire to be recognized and Isaac’s infinite talent led him to fall into an endless swamp of accomplishment.
To what extent should he stop at?
To what extent should he be satisfied with?
‘If only someone would tell me the answer.’
“Young Master?”
Hoover was the one that brought Isaac, who was lost in thought, back to reality. Hoover opened the door and entered without knocking, and when he saw Isaac alone in the empty conference room, his brows knitted.
Perhaps because the scene of him leaning against the window with a blank look was too dreary, he spoke with an uncharacteristic pitying voice.
“Young Master, I’ve already given instructions for your bath to be prepared. You must be very tired, so please head over to the left wing.”
Isaac stared at Hoover blankly, before turning his gaze out of the window again. The mist that was created from the diurnal range covered the annex’s small light.
“I’ll go to the annex today.”
“But the management would be poor, will you be alright with that?”
“It’s fine. I’m just going to sleep, since I’ll have to come to the main building early tomorrow anyways. I’ll head there by myself, so don’t worry and rest well, Hoover.”
Determination could be detected from his soft voice. After a moment of hesitation, Hoover placed the black cape that he had been holding by his side over Isaac’s shoulders and quietly retreated out.
It seems like it’s a lot later than he’d thought.
Guards that were holding up torches patrolled the garden were taking turns to report the time. Isaac looked at the garden, the annex and the sky that was covered in darkness, and finally turned his head in the direction of the servant’s dormitories.
…It wasn’t time for her to go to bed yet. What was she doing?
“I miss you.”
As soon as he recalled the green eyes that had the air of spring, his eyes curved without his knowledge. With a slight smile, Isaac walked down the hallway.

“Uhm…”
Max opened his eyes due to the piercing light of the sunset, and frowned when he felt the tickling touch of hair on his arm. The eyes that stared at the ceiling were filled with irritation.
“…What’s this?”
He vividly remembered kicking the door open and leaving the conference room, and running into the right wing of the mansion. He looked for alcohol just like that, and vaguely remembered getting drunk with a desire to devastate, and flung the maid that brought the alcohol onto the bed.
And what else was there?
The maid, who looked tacky, might have been thick in the head as she couldn’t even do it properly with his orders, and just kept sobbing incessantly. She was a maid in the mansion that belonged to the younger generation, and had been called to the bedroom a few times, but whenever that happened, he’d be so frustrated by her moronic actions that all he’d do was hit her a little.
How slow-witted, when she can’t even serve him in bed properly.
…If her owner has fallen asleep, she should have the awareness to crawl out on her own, how dare she lie in the same bed as him.
“Hey.”
As he tapped his foot without bothering to look, the dawdling maid got up.
With a lightly tanned face, freckles that dotted all over her face and dull red hair, she’s a maid that didn’t have any comely parts to her. Only after the maid stared down at the sheets blankly, did she come to her senses and got up from her position with a jump.
“I—I’m sorry, Little Duke. I’ll leave right now.”
Without covering her naked body, the maid bent down repeatedly to pick up her clothes and went to a corner. The sound of rustling cloth rang loudly and got on Max’s nerves.
The maid put on only her underwear, petticoats, and black dress quickly, and hugged things like her apron and headcap in her arms. Her urgency could be felt, from how she left her dishevelled hair loose, to the appearance of her hurrying towards the door.
The reason for her rush was due to her instinct, caused by her accumulated experience. It’s because it wasn’t the first or second time that she was the target of the Little Duke’s wrath because she moved slowly.
Furthermore, he seemed to be particularly upset today. When she recalled his frequently violent behaviour in bed earlier, it seems the rumour that he had been humiliated at the meeting he’d left was true.
It’s obvious that if the Little Duke was irritated on a day like this, his violence definitely wouldn’t just end with getting a slap.
The pupils that could be seen through her waxy hair kept darting here and there disorientedly. Just as she reached the room’s door like that.
“Wait.”
Max, who watched her motionlessly, called out in a low voice as the maid grabbed the doorknob.
“You, come over here.”
The hand that was gripping the doorknob trembled slightly. After gulping, the maid turned around to stand before him with a carefully casual face.
“What’s your name?”
“Edina… I’m Edina Jaxs, Little Duke.”
Max’s tight frown didn’t ease as he recited Edina’s name softly.
Wondering why he was suddenly asking for her name, and afraid that he was going to punish her or kick her out, Edina kept fiddling with the bundle of clothes she was hugging.
Paying no heed to the maid’s uncomfortable appearance, Max brushed his hair while focusing on getting it together. There was something he’d wanted to ask, and from the looks of her trembling appearance, he thought that he could get the answer he wanted right away.
“While passing by, I heard something strange.”
“Yes? What…”
“I heard that there’s a maid that Isaac favours in particular. Is that the truth?”
Even before he finished, Edina’s shoulders flinched and she squeezed the bundle of clothes tightly.
…Aha.
A faint mocking smile formed on the corners of Max’s mouth. Max grabbed Edina’s hand, which was around the bundle of clothing, and pulled it towards him.
“What’s that maid’s name?”
Eyes that shook uneasily fell towards the floor, reluctant to face him.
‘Why was he asking something like this?’
The Little Duke wasn’t interested in the servants. The only ones that he knew the names of were the head maid, Mrs. Prada, and the butler, Sir Mayer. It was already the fifth time that Edina herself had mixed bodies with him, but it was the first time he asked for her name.
There wasn’t anyone that’s unaware that Max and Isaac were like oil and water. Ever since Isaac was recently selected to be an official aide, their bad relationship got even worse.
In such a situation, for him to look for the maid that Isaac favoured was no different from intending to torment her.
“What’s her name?”
Max urged her with an even more ferocious voice.
However, no matter how terrifying the Little Duke was, she couldn’t sell out her friend. Edina closed her eyes tightly and opened them.
“Little Duke. I apologise, but there are more than 70 maids in the mansion. I don’t know all of them.”
“There’s only 70 of them, but you don’t even know where that b*tch works at? Are you that stupid?”
“…I’m sorry.”
“Oi.”
Max got up from his seat, lifted the hand that was gripping her wrist and grabbed her hair unhesitatingly. Her red hair fluttered about like a wavering flame.
“Little, argh! L—Little Duke!”
“So now even a girl like you dares to ignore me. If you don’t know that b*tch, why would you flinch so visibly as soon as I began talking about her? Do I look like I’m blind?”
“Please let me… Argh! Little Duke! Little Duke!
“Noisy!”
As soon as he felt her body swaying, Max grabbed her hair and threw Edina onto the bed. Before she could get up, the buttons on the upper rim of her dress popped off, along with a ripping sound,
Paling, Edina floundered with her hands and tried to push him away. Max endured the urge to curse and grabbed the hair of the maid, who was trying to escape out of the bed, again.
The tossing and turning shadows tangled together as one and adorned the bed.
On the wall which reflected with the red coloured light of the setting sun, a black silhouette projected grotesque movements. Hair that’s redder than the sunset spreaded out messily over the white sheets.
The cries of ignorance gradually lost strength and crumbled. The tender deeds that some regarded as the final stage of love was perverted with violence and ate away at Edina’s body and spirit.
She couldn’t breathe at the end of the sensations that she didn’t know was pain or pleasure. The hand that tightened around her neck made her vision spin.
Now, she didn’t even feel pain. As death flickered before her eyes, Edina hurriedly opened her mouth.
“I—I know. I know… her name…! Let me, heok , let me go…!”
Instead of a response, her cheek was turned to the side with a ‘Pak’. Disregarding the pain, Edina hurriedly inhaled sharply. Just as his hand was about to slap her again, Edina vomited the name tearfully.
“Dahlia… I—It’s Dahlia…!”
“Dahlia?”
“Yes, yes! She’s a maid called Dahlia Beroch! She had been the only one to attend to the Young Master for quite a while before the Little Duke’s return! She’s currently working as the Young Master’s personal maidservant!”
She recited her friend’s name clearly, syllable by syllable, even while coughing.
In the face of her fear of death, something like her petty conscience was completely worthless. If she could escape this hellish reality, it seems as though she was willing to sell out something like Dahlia’s name, even a hundred times.
With a furious look, Max’s brows knitted and he lowered his raised hand. With a wave of his dominating hand, he pushed the maid pressed beneath him to the side roughly.
“You’ll die if you’re lying.”
“I’m not! I’m not lying! Y—you’ll know immediately if you check with Mrs. Prada!”
“Am I not asking you because that woman pretended not to know anything about it? Well… I’ll know once I confirm it.”
As he spoke with a mysterious tone, Max swept up his sweat-soaked hair.
Actually, when he was pressing Edina, he’d expected it to just be a false rumour. It’s because Isaac, that b*stard, was more indifferent to the servants than he was. It was ridiculous that that b*stard, who’d unconditionally be wary of strangers, would live with a maid.
When he asked the head maid, she’d said that she didn’t really know about that, and even the butler shook his head and denied it. As such, he thought that it was just a rumour and forgot about it. Even when he heard that Isaac was using a maidservant instead of a manservant, he’d simply passed it over, thinking that there weren’t enough attendants so he was stuck with a girl.
…He’d only asked it just in case.
“…Haha. So you did actually have a girl that you cherish.”
Come to think of it, no matter what, Isaac was also a man. Even if he had interest in women, he wasn’t able to show his face in society, so there’s no way for him to meet with a decent woman. Even if he had feelings for someone, the fact that she was one of the mansion’s maids was probably his best choice.
Well, that works out.
If it was a girl from a decent family, he wouldn’t be able to torment her. It wouldn’t matter if she’s a maid.
In any case, maids aren’t any different from objects. If it was replaced, it’s replaced, and there would always be a new one in its place. If that’s the case, there wouldn’t be any consequences even if he tormented and ruined them.
Indecent illegitimate b*stard.
‘How dare he insult me like that in front of the vassals. Do you think I’ll take your insults meekly?’
‘You should also undergo the same exact things once.’
At the thought of ruining what Isaac cherished, his excitement rose. Max nodded his head at his center.
“Oi, Edina.”
Though his goal had been achieved, his excitement had yet to dissipate.
Max stared at Edina coldly and gestured below him with a glance. Edina, who kept sniffling and tried to hold back her sobs, understood his gaze and slowly crawled her way in front of Max, and got down with a crying face.
Contrary to his harsh words and actions, the hand that petted her head was very gentle. Max recited Dahlia’s name quietly, and left his body to the surging excitement.

Summary: After Max stormed out of the conference room, he got drunk and ended up pushing the maid that brought him alcohol onto his bed. When he woke up, he wanted to kick out the maid that dared to lie in the same bed as him, but decided to question her about a maid that Isaac supposedly favoured. The maid is then revealed to be Edina, who refused to sell out Dahlia and tried to deny it, but her shoulders flinched while doing so and that gave her away.
Max noticed it and threatened Edina by choking her in the midst of r*ping her. In the face of death, Edina threw away her conscience and told Max about Dahlia. In the past, when Max asked the head maid and the butler about it, he received replies of denial, so he thought that it was just a rumour and forgot about it. Max thought that he wouldn’t be able to torment the girl if she was from a decent family, but maids aren’t any different from replaceable objects, and so there wouldn’t be any consequences if he tormented her.
