The Maid Who Became a Knight - Chapter 115
Chapter 115
Side Story 1-3
After having successfully completed the mission, they returned to the Imperial Palace, and Hizen got very busy. There were many people calling him from different places, and he could not count anymore the number of visitors. In recognition of his achievements, the size of the Special Knights increased, and he was now in charge of more knights.
He could not leave out his personal business. Hizen bought a mansion to stay with Leasis, and they got married after his proposal.
Unfortunately, there was no honeymoon. Holding important positions in the Imperial Palace, the two worked in the Commander’s office instead of going on a honeymoon.
Hizen cut most of the chores, but the workload did not decrease. Sitting on the sofa in the new Commander’s office, Hizen and Leasis continued to review documents. Both of them were buried in work to the point that they could not look like a newlywed couple.
But Hizen could hardly concentrate. His head was already dominated by macarons.
It was strange. He had definitely eaten macarons last night, but they still came to his mind. His hand holding the document trembled and he sighed.
It’s not macaron withdrawal, so what is it? Thinking about it, it did not have to be macarons, but just something sweet.
For example, some creamy bread or chocolate ice cream that melted in mouth.
‘Sweet. Sweet. Sweet…’
“Hizen.”
“Ah… Huh?”
Lost in his delusions, Hizen looked at Leasis in surprise. Then she asked in a worried voice.
“Are you sick?”
“No. I’m fine.”
Her spouse calmly denying it was suspicious. Come to think of it, Hizen had recently thrown a fork while eating, saying he was nauseous, and was tossing and turning all night, suffering from insomnia.
Leasis had told him to visit the doctor every time, but Hizen was not able to go because he was always buried in a pile of work.
In that case, she had no choice but to go with him personally. Leasis took Hizen to his doctor on the pretext of getting some fresh air.
The doctor squinted at Hizen’s face in the chair. He was thinner than when he had seen him at his wedding, and his complexion was not good. The new groom must have been run over by work and got sick.
He doesn’t know how to live. The doctor sighed and asked.
“So, what’s wrong?”
“Hizen, you have to tell him your symptoms.”
You’re being taken care of properly. The doctor held back his laughter and looked at the couple. Hizen was not able to overcome his wife’s push and talked about his symptoms.
“I’ve been feeling nauseous lately. I get tired by doing simple things, and I keep craving sweets…”
The doctor opened his eyes wide because it was strange to hear. These symptoms should be Leasis’, not Hizen’s.
The doctor looked at Leasis sitting next to Hizen. Unlike Hizen, her skin was shining and she seemed to have gained some weight.
Most doctors could predict the cause with this much. The doctor asked in a friendly voice as if he were treating his daughter.
“Leasis. When was your last menstruation?”
“Oh… Wait a minute.”
Surprised, Leasis wondered about it. She had completely forgotten about it because she lived a hectic life as the Vice Commander and as a knight.
“I think it’s been three months.”
“Stretch out your arm a little.”
“Yes.”
Is there any problem, for the doctor to start examining Leasis’ condition? Hizen watched the situation seriously. His abnormal symptoms had already faded from his head. His head was only full of worries about his lovely wife.
The doctor took Leasis’ pulse and carefully checked several things. Then he smiled at the nervous couple.
“Congratulations. The angels have come to you.”
“What do you mean?”
“Twins.”
Twins? What do you mean twins? Hizen did not understand for a long time. His brilliant brain froze and could not function properly.
In the meantime, Leasis came to her senses first. She opened her mouth in excitement, thanked the doctor by bowing her head, and looked at Hizen.
“Hizen, we’re going to have a baby!”
“A baby… Our baby?”
“Yes!”
His blue eyes looking at her became moist. Leasis asked in surprise.
“Hizen, are you crying?”
“Ah. No. There’s dust in my eyes… Ah. No…”
Hizen, who was stuttering like a fool, stretched out his arms and hugged Leasis. His loud heartbeat was enough to express his feelings.
The doctor burst into laughter as he looked at Hizen, who was crying and hugging her. He lifted a light feather pen and wrote down on some parchment paper a lot of things for pregnant women to watch out for.
But Leasis still had a question. Then, why was Hizen sick? When she asked, the doctor spoke calmly.
“He has morning sickness instead of you. It’s also known as the Couvade syndrome. Sometimes when a wife is pregnant, her husband also suffers from pregnancy symptoms. Both of you should take a rest and eat what you want to eat well.”
Leasis could not hide her worries, but Hizen liked his words very much. It was much better for him to feel uncomfortable rather than his wife having a hard time being sick.
After that, Leasis took a maternity leave immediately and enjoyed a leisurely time at their mansion. Most of the time she baked macarons for Hizen, who had morning sickness, or chatted with Owen, who was also pregnant.
Owen’s belly, now in the last month of pregnancy, was huge. Leasis sat in a rocking chair next to Owen and chatted.
“The Count-nim is amazing, too. I heard he leaves work on time every day these days.”
“How did you know?”
“I heard it from Jason.”
Leasis smiled shyly and nodded. There was no lover like him. Hizen took care of all his work in a flash and left work on time like a clock.
It took him less than ten minutes to ride a horse from the Imperial Palace to the mansion. The sight of him rushing out of the palace horrified everyone, until Leasis revealed her pregnancy. They had all been afraid that there was a war.
Leasis, who had been smiling for a long time, stared at Owen. Then Owen blinked her brown eyes and asked.
“Do you have something to say?”
“Did you name your child?”
“Yes. Of course. My parents-in-law suggested us the name Syrable.”
“What a lovely name. That’s a good one.”
Owen’s cheeks were beautifully colored. Her parents-in-law cared and loved her like their own daughter. Jason was good, but his parents were even better.
Leasis smiled brightly, seeing Owen happy. The little girl would become a mother before her. It was really nice and exciting.
Anyway, since when did she start dating Jason? Leasis could not resist and asked carefully.
“How did you two start dating?”
“Ah. I liked him first, so I confessed.”
“What?”
It was an unimaginable boldness for Owen. Owen shared a few stories to satisfy Leasis’ curiousity.
“What happened is…”
Cleaning a shelf in the cafeteria, Owen noticed Jason. Jason, walking from far away, had a gentle and straight face as usual.
So her heart pounded senselessly, and her face got feverish. Owen knew she should not do this, but she could not take her eyes off him.
But there was a party after that. The faces of the yound noble ladies following Jason looked quite fierce. A woman wearing a fancy dress like Ashley came into the cafeteria with Jason.
She sat in front of Jason at the table and folded her arms. Then she proudly called Owen.
(There, the servant girl. Bring me a cup of tea.]
[Miss Anburg. In our cafeteria, it’s a rule to bring your tea yourself.]
[Oh, my. Are you telling me to go bring my own tea?]
[Yes.]
When Jason nodded silently, the young noble lady blushed as if she had been insulted. Even the eldest son of the Sebnert family was so arrogant.
The noble lady was irritated.
[Hey, that servant! I told you to bring me some tea. Didn’t you hear me?]
[I’m not a servant, I’m a maid.]
Owen automatically retorted, unwilling to lose for some reason. Surprised at her own words, Owen hurriedly covered her mouth with both hands.
Fortunately, the lady was not violent like Ashley. She just got angry and left the cafeteria.
Owen started to clean the shelf again. She knew Jason was still at the table, but she did not talk to him.
Then, Jason approached Owen.
[I’m sorry.]
[…Jason-nim, why are you apologizing?]
Owen was frustrated. Jason was always so nice that she had fallen in love with him. He had secretly taken care of Leasis and did not show off.
While grumbling, he always did his job silently and helped the other knights and his friends. Owen was both excited and heartbroken whenever she saw him.
Fool.
She squeezed the mop in frustration. Then a piece of glass attached to the mop dug into her plam and some blood flowed.
[Ah..]
[Let me see your hand for a moment.]
Jason quickly saw the glass in Owen’s hand and clicked his tongue. He pulled out the piece of glass so Owen would not get more wounded, and took a bandage out.
After skillfully bandaging her, Jason let go of Owen’s hand. Then, Owen grabbed Jason by the wrist with her bandaged hand.
[Why are you so nice to me?]
[…]
[You know how I feel.]
Jason dropped his eyes at Owen’s crying voice. He knew the pain of her crush well because he had Leasis in his heart.
But the maid in front of him always looked at him with those eyes. So it kept bothering him.
At Jason’s silence, Owen recalled Leasis. She envied her and wanted to resemble her. If Unnie had seen me in this situation, she would have encouraged me.
[Please go out with me once.]
A trembling voice expressed Owen’s feelings. Jason could not refuse her earnest request.
