The Male Lead’s Childhood Friend - Chapter 29
“I’m sorry Krista. I guess we have to re-schedule our shopping for another day.” I was on my cellphone with Krista telling her what just happened.
Jeremy took Chris’ car and drove me to the nearest hospital to check on my sprained ankle. We are currently at the orthopedics section and waiting for the x-ray result I got earlier.
“Don’t worry about it Ana. Just rest your sprained ankle. We can go shopping another time.” Krista replied from the other end of the phone. “At least we had the opportunity to eat lunch with the man you were hiding from us in Paris.” Krista giggled.
“You met Shiki?” I asked.
“Yeah. Chris called me and told me to have lunch with them after what happened to you and Jeremy.” Krista replied. “So now I am going to take your car and take Shiki back to your home while Chris will be taking my car and take Din home.”
This was unexpected. With what happened to me, Chris and Geraldine was able to get time alone. Good thing I left my purse with Shiki because the keys to my car are inside.
‘Maybe it was also Shiki’s idea to let those two get time alone with each other.’ I thought. It was my mission to get those two together and unintentionally my sprain made a way for them to get together.
“Well then gotta go.” Krista giggled.
“Hey, don’t get to close with Shiki okay.” I warned her. Shiki is a god and falling in love with him is like having your feelings unanswered. I don’t want my best friend to have hopes with Shiki.
“Don’t worry, I won’t steal him from you.” Krista teased.
“That’s not what I meant…” I replied.
“Ciao.” Krista ended our phone call and I heard the dial tone on the other end.
I looked at my cellphone with a raised eyebrow and sighed.
“Was that Krista? What did she say?” Jeremy popped up behind me said. It made me jump in surprise. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to surprise you. Here I got you some cold coffee from the vending machine.” He said and smiled and gave me the can of cold coffee.
I looked at the can and the brand written on it. ‘He still remembers that I only drink cold or iced coffee. And this brand is one of my favorites.’ I thought. This made my heart feel warm and tingly inside. A smile crept on my face.
“Thanks.” I replied. “Yep, that was Krista. She said they had lunch together with Chris and Shiki. She would be taking my car to drive Shiki home while Chris will be driving her car to take Din home.”
Jeremy’s expression darkened for a second with the mention of Shiki but returned to a smile.
“Thanks.” Jeremy said to me.
“For what?” I asked confused. “I should be the one thanking you because you took me to the hospital and paid for the bills. I will pay you back when I get home.”
Because I left my purse with Shiki, I don’t have any cards or cash with me. And so Jeremy was the one to pay for all the hospital bills.
“No need to pay me back. I am happy to be of service to you like in the past.” Jeremy smiled. “I am thankful that you gave me a second chance.” .
I felt shy remembering how happy Jeremy looked when I nodded my head in agreeing on giving him a second chance. I don’t know what will happen to our relationship, but being loved as his little sister again is not such a bad idea. I also don’t want our past relationship go down the drain just because of my one sided love for him.
I look at Jeremy and thought that having him as a big brother is a good thing. But I won’t be spoiled once again like in the past and I won’t misinterpret it like the last time.
“I also don’t want our past relationship to be over just because of our broken engagement. I still see you as a big brother Jeremy.” I smiled.
“O-Only a big brother?” Jeremy frowned.
“W-Why? Is there any other reason why you want a second chance?” I asked innocently. “I thought you don’t want our relationship to end badly so you asked for a second chance?”
“Well… that and also another thing.” Jeremy said. “I want to tell you something. And what I am about to say is really from the bottom of my heart Ana, so please believe me.”
I nodded innocently looking at Jeremy. I never doubted anything Jeremy had said to me. Our misunderstanding in my past life was because I was too hard headed and didn’t accept that his love was given to another woman and not me.
“Ana I…” Jeremy was about to say something when someone interrupted us.
“Excuse me. The result of the x-ray just arrived.” A nurse was standing in front of us. “The doctor wants to see you now.”
“Oh, okay.” Jeremy smiled awkwardly. “Let’s go.”
Jeremy pushed my wheel chair towards the doctor’s office.
**
“Well it looks like you just have a sprained ankle. There is no broken bone thankfully. You just need to rest for at least a week and put off any weight on it.” The doctor said while looking at my x-ray film. “We have to bandage your ankle for a week. I will prescribe you some pain reliever if the pain is too much to bear and also you need to use crutches for a week to help you move around and not put on weight on the sprain. Come back to me after a week has passed for a follow up check up. Remember, don’t move around too much.”
The doctor wrote a prescription and gave it to Jeremy.
“Well then, you can go home now.” The doctor said.
“Thank you doctor.” I said.
“Thanks. Then we will be going now.” Jeremy said and smiled.
The nurse outside have bandaged my ankle nicely and gave me the crutches I needed. I tried it for the first time and I was a little nervous.
“Don’t worry, I’m right here.” Jeremy was by my side if ever I get off balance.
“I think I am getting a hang of it.” I smiled at him.
We walked slowly towards the parking area. Jeremy wanted me to wait at the drive way of the hospital nut I insisted on walking because I want to practice using crutches. He helped me inside the passenger seat and drove away.
“So, where to?” Jeremy asked while driving.
*Grumble* the sound of my stomach was so loud that I felt embarrassed. I heard Jeremy chuckled.
“Hehe, why don’t IK take you for a late lunch.” Jeremy said. “Your favorite seaside restaurant is just minutes away from here.”
“O-Okay.” I replied shyly.
Jeremy has been very mindful of me that it made me so much happy.
