The Male Protagonist’s Daughter - Chapter 14.1
Of course, Shen Qingruo was inclined to believe that after her ‘death’, she’d opened up a spot for some other woman to fill her space. That man must be living a very blessed life and forgotten about her. In comparison, her reaction towards her son having a chance to visit Jing City… was truly laughable.
Shen Yan had always been an intelligent little boy. There was no doubt that he wanted to visit Jing City, and he was very tempted after he heard Uncle Luo’s offer. Despite that, if his mother didn’t agree with him going, he wouldn’t throw a tantrum or make a fuss as a result of it.
He knew that his mother didn’t want him to go, and he didn’t want to do anything to upset his mother. Even if he felt disappointed, he tried his best to focus on his studies.
Shen Qingruo noticed her son sitting straight. She couldn’t help but zone out while staring at him focused on his homework.
Her son’s facial features were a combination of hers and that man. However, when taking a closer look, he didn’t really take after her or that man. There’s a possibility that even if her son were to bump into the man, the man wouldn’t be able to tell that they are related by blood.
“Son, it’s not like Mama doesn’t want you to go. Mama is merely worried because you’ve never travelled far away from home before, and that you would fall sick.” Shen Qingruo’s expression was calm and her eyes glimmered when she spoke. “I’m contemplating if I should buy some medicine for you from the pharmacy beforehand.”
Shen Yan instantly raised his head and looked at her with disbelief.
He thought that his mother didn’t want him to go. He hadn’t expected…
He was a child, thus, with the sudden change in outcome, he was stunned. He was elated, as he double checked, “Is that true? Mom, are you really alright with me going with Uncle Luo? Really?”
Shen Qingruo couldn’t help but feel bad.
At times, she questions the fairness of the world. Her son was a child prodigy, yet he was stuck living a very simple life in the suburbs.”
It was a good thing that this mentality slowly changed as he grew up.
“Of course.” Shen Qingruo uncomfortably rubbed her hands together. “I just felt bad about taking up the offer. However, after more consideration, I realized that your Uncle Luo truly wants to bring you on the trip so that Shuyan will have some company.”
Shen Yan was truly excited. He talked more than usual.
For example, he contemplated whether he should start packing.
Additionally, if he should complete his holiday homework beforehand.
Also, if he should bring a towel and toothbrush along.
–
The next day, Shen Qingruo talked about this issue with Luo Tianyuan, and she gave him CNY500 to cover her son’s food expenses and transportation costs.
As a wealthy man, Luo Tianyuan couldn’t accept money from a single mother. He tried to give it back to her. “My company will reimburse any expenses I incur, plus, it wouldn’t cost a lot to bring Shen Yan along. Why don’t you keep the money? I think this is settled then, if you feel bad, you can prepare some food for the three of us to bring and eat during the trip. The food on the train isn’t good and the children may find it palatable.”
Shen Qingruo realized that Luo Tianyuan had no intention of accepting her money. She figured that it wouldn’t be reasonable to continue to offer him the money, so she kept the money back into her pocket.
To Luo Tianyuan, CNY500 really wasn’t much. As for Shen Qingruo, it was a huge portion of the little savings she had left. A few days ago, she signed a purchase agreement with Luo Tianyuan, and used most of her savings as down payment. She owned the apartment now, and that was why she felt more at ease to send her son to Jing City on a trip.
Shen Qingruo had her mind made up; over the next two days, she’ll prepare the food for them. A thought passed through her mind and she recalled something important. “Tianyuan…”
Luo Tianyuan had taken a few steps down before turning back and looking at her.
“Tianyuan, if anyone approaches you in Jing City and asks about Little Yan, could you tell them that he’s your nephew or something…” Shen Qingruo contemplated for a bit before she continued, “Let them know that Little Yan has a mother and a father.”
In essence, she didn’t want anyone to question Shen Yan’s parentage.
Luo Tianyuan previously had a hunch that Shen Qingruo came from a wealthy family. When he accounted for the fact that she didn’t seem to like Jing City, it seemed like they had relatives in Jing City.
Luo Tianyuan has known Shen Qingruo for two years and he knew her personality. Even though he could tell that Shen Yan’s father wasn’t an ordinary man, he didn’t try to avoid the topic. He pondered for a bit before saying, “If anyone asks, I’ll tell them that Shen Yan is my nephew and that his parents are from Ning City. Both of them are also working in a normal company.”
Shen Qingruo’s lips moved as she lowered her head. “Thank you.”
“So, what about Shen Yan’s birthday?”
Shen Qingruo was shocked over Luo Tianyuan’s question. Her son’s birthday was the most important question that could be a huge giveaway. She turned pale before she counted the dates in her head. “Just say that he’s already seven.”
If it were someone else… If it weren’t for the fact that she trusted Luo Tianyuan, she would’ve never told anyone else anything about Shen Yan’s biological father.
Luo Tianyuan nodded and lightly said, “Don’t worry, I’ll try my best to not let the children meet strangers. It’ll only be for three to four days. I’ll also let Shen Yan call you everyday to let you know that he’s fine.”
