The Malevolent Female Villain Turns Out to Be Me - Chapter 189
Xiao Jinmeng didn’t want to disturb the two lovebirds, so she drove her pink little car to find Shi Shuning.
Shi Shuning’s tech company had grown rapidly in the past two years. From its humble beginnings of a dozen people crammed into a 300-square-foot office, it had expanded to three hundred employees occupying three floors of an office building.
With graduation season approaching, Shi Shuning planned to hire a large number of new employees and move the company to a newly purchased independent office building adjacent to X International.
When Xiao Jinmeng arrived at the company, Shi Shuning was in a meeting with various department heads.
The receptionist, already familiar with the future boss’s wife, led her directly to the break room.
The break room was opposite the conference room, both with glass doors. Through the glass, Xiao Jinmeng could see Shi Shuning listening intently to the department heads’ reports, his expression serious.
He seemed dissatisfied with what he was hearing, his brows furrowed tightly, an aura of irritation surrounding him.
His austere demeanor made Xiao Jinmeng click her tongue appreciatively. “Tsk tsk tsk, this man really has two faces. How can someone so stern act like an overexcited puppy around me? Ah, he’s most handsome when he’s working.”
Shi Shuning sensed an intense gaze on him and turned his head, catching sight of the girl staring at him from across the hall, nearly drooling.
Upon seeing Xiao Jinmeng, Shi Shuning’s irritation briefly gave way to a flash of delight. He gave her a look that said “be good and wait for me,” then turned back to continue the meeting.
Soon after, Shi Shuning left the conference room and went straight to the break room.
“Baby, what brings you here? I’ve missed you so much.” Shi Shuning immediately wrapped his arms around his girlfriend’s waist, nuzzling her like an affectionate golden retriever.
“Shuning, you change moods so quickly. You weren’t like this just now,” Xiao Jinmeng said, blushing as she ruffled his hair, instantly messing up his meticulously styled coiffure.
Shi Shuning didn’t mind at all, letting her tousle his hair as he asked with a smile, “So, darling, which version of me do you prefer? This one, or the one from earlier?”
“I love Shuning no matter what!” She answered without hesitation, knowing better than to falter on such a loaded question.
The department heads, emerging from the conference room, couldn’t help but cringe at the couple’s interaction, and began to tease them from outside.
Shi Shuning put on a stern face and threatened, “It seems you all have too much free time. Perhaps I should reconsider hiring so many new people.”
The crowd outside immediately pretended to be deaf. “What did the boss just say? My hearing isn’t very good.”
“The boss said that his girlfriend is graceful, virtuous, gentle, and dignified, and he’s considering when to marry her quickly!”
“Oh, is that so? Well, let’s hurry off and leave the lovebirds alone! Otherwise, we might not be invited to drink at their wedding.”
As the group returned to their desks, chuckling, Shi Shuning couldn’t help but smile.
These people had been with him since the early days of his startup. Though they were in an employer-employee relationship, they were more like brothers, serious and focused at work, but often joking around in their free time.
Xiao Jinmeng’s face was flushed red as she shyly nestled into Shi Shuning’s embrace.
Marriage – this topic had been brought up two years ago when she was injured. Shuning had mentioned to her and her father that they would get their marriage license when she reached the legal marriage age of twenty. But it hadn’t been mentioned since.
Now, hearing the word again filled her with even more longing than before. She was twenty-one this year, but there had been no movement on that front, which left her feeling a bit melancholic.
“Sweetheart, what brings you here today?” Shi Shuning asked, gently patting her back.
Xiao Jinmeng pushed aside her wistful thoughts and looked up with a smile. “Hehe, I’m going to have a sister-in-law soon!”
“Sister-in-law?”
Xiao Jinmeng nodded. “Mm-hmm, my brother has finally won over Sister Yijun, his special assistant. They even kissed!”
She showed Shi Shuning the candid photo she had taken.
“Weren’t your parents always trying to set them up? Now they won’t have to worry about your brother’s lifelong happiness anymore.”
After saying this, Shi Shuning stroked his chin thoughtfully. “It seems my brother is the only single one now.”Findd new 𝒔tories on nov/e(l)bin(.)com
Xiao Jinmeng was surprised. “Brother Shuan hasn’t won over Sister Yanyan yet?”
“Probably not. After all, Sister Yanyan has been busy filming abroad, and my brother is always caught up with company matters. He stays in his study until late every night. It’s been like this for two years. At least, I haven’t heard him mention anything about dating.”
Xiao Jinmeng blinked her eyes. “Shuning, have you ever heard this saying?”
“What saying?” Shi Shuning asked, puzzled.
“When children are quiet, they’re definitely up to mischief! Maybe Brother Shuan has already won over Sister Yanyan!”
Shi Shuning: !!
Xiao Jinmeng giggled. “Why don’t you sneak up to his study door tonight when you get home and see what he’s up to? I bet it’s not work.”
As it turned out, Xiao Jinmeng’s guess was correct. Shu An was indeed up to mischief – or rather, he had already won over He Junyan.
That night, after his brother entered the study, Shi Shuning waited about half an hour before quietly pressing his ear against the door to eavesdrop.
Fortunately, the study door wasn’t completely closed, leaving a small crack that allowed him to hear clearly.
Inside the study:
“Yanyan, I miss you so much. Didn’t you say you’d be back in two years? It’s been over two years now. When are you coming back?” Shu An’s voice, looking at the person on his computer screen, was full of a whining tone.
“Call me sister,” He Junyan’s mature voice came through the computer.
Shu An pressed his lips together, calling out somewhat reluctantly, “Sister.”
“Good boy~” He Junyan laughed. “Soon, soon. Just wait two more days, I’ll definitely be back!”
Shu An brightened. “Really? Promise you won’t stand me up!”
“I know, I know. Be good~ You’re already thirty years old, yet still acting like a child.”
Shu An said, a bit self-consciously, “I’m only like this with you. If you don’t like it, I can turn into a big bad wolf instead.”
He Junyan laughed at his joke. “No, no, no. I prefer you as my little puppy.”
Outside, Shi Shuning listened, utterly thunderstruck.
He knew that his older brother was usually a bit unreliable, but still maintained the demeanor of an elder sibling. At least when beating him up, he was like a demon. He never imagined that his brother would have such a childish side.
It completely overturned his impression of his older brother!
Wah, wah, wah, this isn’t fair! He’s the younger brother, after all!
Shi Shuning, with tears streaming down his face, continued to listen to the sounds coming from inside.
“Yan… Sister, when you come back, shall we get married?”
He Junyan giggled coyly: “Are you serious? I’m older than you, won’t you mind?”
Shu An suddenly became teary-eyed: “Of course I’m serious, Sister. Don’t tell me these past two years were just for fun to you?”
