The Mating Game - Chapter 21:20.
COLTON’S POV
“Are you insane!?” Ty yelled as I sat in the metal chair, arms and legs strapped tight, holding me here. “You can’t test this on yourself, what if it kills you Colton! Your pack needs you, India needs you!”
“She needs me to do this. If I don’t, she’ll die either way. If I don’t hand over the land, she dies. If I do hand over the land, she dies. The only way for me to get to her is to become bullet proof. My pack will understand.” I shot, adrenaline coursing through my veins as my wolf thrashed inside of me, trying to claw his way to the surface.
“What happens to your pack when you’re gone? Eric will most likely lose Mikayla, he will be in no shape to lead! Colton, think of what India would want you to do!” Ty countered.
“The only thing I am thinking about is her. If Eric is incapable of leading, take my pack. You will lead them well.” I told Ty, locking eyes with him in sincerity. “If I die, and she survives, take care of her. She will need her best friend. I left a letter for her. It’s in her dresser. Make sure she gets it.”
Ty simply nodded, realizing there was nothing more he could do to change my mind. I was set on this. I needed to do it.
“I’m ready.” I motioned to the tech, the gleaming point of the needle fixed to the syringe should have frightened me even a tad, but it had no effect. I wanted it. I wanted to soar on the edge of death. If I survived this, I could save her. If I didn’t, we would both die.
“Are you ready Alpha?” The tech asked, the needle situated near the inside of my arm. I simply nodded as I felt the needle enter my vein, I felt the liquid enter my blood stream as the tech pushed the plunger down.
Fire erupted inside of me as I thrashed against the restraints holding me to the steel chair.
I screamed aloud as it coursed through my veins, igniting a fire inside of me, consuming everything as it blazed through. I could feel it everywhere, the burning hatred I had for the scum that took my mate from me. I could feel it swimming in my vision, burning and boiling unshed tears. I could taste it on my tongue, hot and thick, the metallic tang of blood the only want I had. I wanted to watch her captures bleed out, to suffer at my hands.
“Colton! Colton, calm down!” I heard Ty shouting towards me but I paid no attention. I needed to get out of there. I needed to find her.
I could feel my bones elongating and shifting, I could feel my wolf taking over as the anger began to surge, growing hotter every second.
“The mercury! Hurry! Inject it now!” I heard Ty screaming over the chaos going on around us. I was shifting in restraints that were not meant to hold a giant wolf. I would break them easily.
I felt a pin prick against my neck as the silvery liquid was shot into my blood stream.
I thought that I would feel the fire die within me, that I would perish along with it. The amount I was injected with would kill a normal pack wolf within seconds, and effectively stop an Alpha from shifting before sending them into a comatose state like India had been in.
It did nothing but add fuel to the flames burning brightly inside of me.
I was immune, the serum had worked.
