The Military System - 0 The Ones Who Never Existed
-Anonymous
For some, Hell has another name. War.
Some define it as “A state of armed conflict between states, governments, societies and informal paramilitary groups, such as mercenaries, insurgents and militias. It is generally characterized by extreme violence, aggression, destruction, and mortality, using regular or irregular military forces.”
Some define it as a necessary Evil.
However, one cannot understand war with these simple lines. The writers of these definitions are liars. They try to make it look like a fight between some buddies, but they never project the true face of war. The horrors of war can not be put into words. Only those who have lived in war, those who have seen it with their own eyes, know what it truly is. Hell would be an understatement for describing War. Deaths in millions, famine, starvation, destruction of environment, atrocious crimes…..and the list goes on. As a famous warlord once said “War is nothing but the epitome of human desire for power and wealth. It began with humanity and it will go on for as long as humanity exists”
In the history of human civilization, not a millenium has gone by where wars have not been waged, and by war is not to be mistaken as small skirmishes between groups, but battles between nations which cost countless lives. The cause may have been anything, but the reasons were always the same. Power and Money.
War began with tribes and communities fighting for territory and resources. Then came kingdoms and empires, the reasons for war remained the same, just the scale of death and destruction increased. As the world stepped into the machine age, wars also stepped into their golden age. Two world wars a few decades apart nearly burnt down the whole world. From the ashes, the Victors quoted “We will never allow this to be repeated again….” Yet….
The year 2190. A certain country in South Asia got its entire military in the hands of a Terrorist Organization. This country immediately, waged war on its neighbour, a large and rich country whose people were mostly peace loving and cowards. In less than two years some surrounding nations also got involved. The victim nation by its sheer financial abilities and human resources managed to push the attacker back, but the powerful nations of the world saw a great opportunity in this battle, whoever won the war would become a heavyweight in the region, so they began supporting the two nations behind the scenes which soon changed into active participation. What began as a war between two neighbours soon pulled in the whole world. Fortunately for humanity, the use of Nuclear weaponry had been banned a few years prior or all hell would break lose. As such the war turned into a battle of skill, resources and attrition, whose flames began burning across the globe. World War Three had begun.
Year 2207
Two decades had passed since the third world war had started. It was a war the likes of which had never been seen before. Estimates showed, that even the two previous world wars put together caused only a minor fraction of deaths this one caused. Deaths were in the hundreds of millions.
The city of Dresden, which was once a flourishing hub, now lay in ruins. Its beautiful buildings all burnt and razed to ground while its skyscrapers were now hugging the ground.
“So this is how it ends….”
A lone man muttered as he looked at the evening sky. At the horizon, a trail of lights could be seen fast approaching his location. These were JM-A62 missiles, known for their deadliness across the world, And currently they were aiming at him. The man was around 40 years old his once silver hair now mostly white, his face was wrinkled and full of wounds, yet his eyes showed a cold glint which could freeze the hearts of ordinary people. He was mortally wounded, his left arm was loosely hanging from his shoulder, his body had tens of bullet wound, one had even damaged his heart. He was on his last breaths.
“Still, for them to send so many missiles just to kill me….such an overkill….”
He sighed and looked around. The corpses of his comrades and his enemies lay around. The comrades he spent over two decades with were now all dead bodies. Yet he didn’t feel any pain, no…he chose not to. The man looked up once again as he rested his broken body by a damaged tank. He reminisced his life from as early he could remember. The countless battles he bad been through, the various people he had seen and worked with. And lastly the faces of his comrades who died serving the motherland beside him. He still remembered everything.
He coughed up blood as his injuries were taking their toll. He smiled. This mission really went downhill. His platoon of 15 was sent to retrieve a hard drive which stored critical data about the German army’s plans and tactical operations. It was onboard a fighter jet which was shot down by their enemies over Dresden which was an active war zone. The mission was top secret, and they would have no back up. It was supposed be another recovery mission but, they had no idea that the enemy had dispatched a whole company to obtain the same hard drive. After a brutal battle he and his comrades managed to secure the hard drive and send the data back to their base before destroying it. But they had paid a heavy price surrounded by enemies on all sides, they fought till the last man and the last round. All his comrades were dead and he too would soon join them.
In his dying moments Add smiled. Add, that was the name of this man. He looked at the sky, the missiles were less than 5kms away now.
“Well….at least the setting sun is so beautiful….” Looking at the dead enemy troops he smirked “…too bad you bastards can’t see it….”
And then all turned white.
Months later Germany along with its allies would emerge victorious in this war. No one would know that the deaths of 15 men in Dresden that day laid the base of this victory, nor would they know of the many others like them who gave their lives before. No one would remember them, no one would know of Add, the man who led them. Because he like his comrades, never existed.
“You will never see us, because we do not exist.
You will never hear of us, because we never happened.
You will never know the things we do, because we were never there.
Our names will not be written in gold,
Nor would our statues stand tall among men,
Bards will not sing of our glories
And Legends will not tell of our tales.
Yet we did what no one could,
We fought, we lived, where no one could,
We burned in hell so that you could be in heaven,
And as is and always will be, because we never existed
You my countrymen, will be safe.”
-The words of those who never existed.
