The Military System - 14 The Hunt 1
“Alright, we will follow the goblin trails from here on. Our scouts have already made a rough estimate of the goblin nests and hideouts! Stay in a group and don’t wander off….be careful in the jungle, those critters may jump out from anywhere.”
Leaving three Adventurers to watch over the carriage, the rest entered the dense forest. At the front, Mason and some other Adventurers were chopping away the vegetation with a large choppers while the rest followed. Add being a F rank was at the very last of the group. He kept his vigilance, as he checked his surroundings. The group soon found tracks of goblins, and headed deeper into the forest.
“You know I bet that those stupid critters would be coming at us with their clubs waving hahaha”
“hell! Those ain’t clubs they ain’t nothin but branches kekeke!”
Some Adventurers were casually joking on the way. They had walked for an hour already. The dense jungle was making it harder for them to proceed. Some. Adventurers were complaining about the heat and humidity while others were irritated from not witnessing a single goblin yet. But after a few more minutes, the group reached a place which appeared somewhat strange.
“This…..this looks like a camp ?”
An Adventurer asked Mason who was also looking at the same thing. The place looked like a goblin camp. There were tracks of them everywhere on the ground, in some places, bones of animals were also lying about. Looking at this Mason frowned
“Should be….but then where are those goblins ?” he murmured.
They looked around for a bit more before deciding to delve deeper into the forest following other tracks which left the camp. Add felt something was wrong. They had not even seen the shadow of a single goblin since they entered the forest and now even this goblin camp looked like, it was abandoned recently.
“Did they know we were coming ?” he thought.
The group walked on following the tracks for sometime, the forest growing denser by the metre, when suddenly Mason who was in the front realised something was terribly wrong and shouted
“Ambush!!!!”
But he was a step too late. A hail of arrows sliced the air and rained at the group. Add who had also realised the situation ducked and hid behind a tree immediately. The others were not so lucky. Some were hit in their arms, some in their legs and a few were fatally injured. There were many goblin archers hiding in the trees around them. The Adventurers soon took cover dragging the injured with them and some adventurers who had bows began to shoot back at the goblins. Mason and some B ranked adventurers swiftly dashed towards the goblin archers dodging arrows but a horde of goblins suddenly appeared from the surroundings and blocked them. Though they were no better than cannon fodder for the A and B ranked adventurers they still slowed them down by their numbers.
Add looked coldly at the few dead adventurers lying there. These guys were laughing making light of goblins earlier and now they were dead. He scanned his surroundings as all this happened, the other low ranked adventurers had also joined the fray as archers kept the goblin archers in check. When everyone was busy with the sudden ambush, no one noticed a boy quietly slip away from the group. With his stats Add had no problems in travelling fast in the forest terrain. He separated from the group and bypassed them. Within minutes he was far away from them.
Add had two main reasons to separate from the group. First, he wanted to complete the mission issued by the System as fast as possible. Secondly, If he stayed with the group his gun would be exposed. Human greed was never to be underestimated, and a weapon like a gun was very enticing. Even though no one in this world should know about firearms, what if some fools decided to snatch his gun, it would be troublesome dealing with it.
“Time to begin…..”
He spotted another goblin group moving towards the Adventurers’ group and attacked them. With his upgraded stats, it was easy facing off against normal goblins. He took his dagger and swiftly attacked an unsuspecting goblin. With a slash its throat was slit killing it.
[Ding! You have killed goblin ×1]
[Ding! You have received 50 Exp. And 20 CP]
“Twice the rewards indeed….” Add hummed
The other goblins lunged at him but were quickly killed by him. Add opened the system shop and bought a silencer for 100 CP for his M20-B and equipped it. Having a loud fire arm was not a good idea here. He then bought the skill [Perception (Passive) Lv.1] from the system for 200 CP. This skill helped him sense any movement and presence in a 10 metre radius around him. It was not much but in a dense forest it was a critical privilege.
Add soon encountered another group of goblins, this time there were some goblin swordsmen as well. He silently crept behind them and before they could react, he snapped the neck of their leader. The others were also killed in little time. Add didn’t use his gun on these small fry, he had two magazines left, and although they cost 25 CP each, using them on weak goblins was a waste.
Add kept moving through the forest following any tracks he could see and with the help of his [Perception] skill. He faced a few more groups and killed all of them. The only little trouble he had was with a group of hobgoblins, but the .45 ACP solved it easily. Soon he had killed over 50 goblins and levelled up to Level 9 and earned quite an amount of CP. He levelled up [Accelerated Healing] to Level 4, and put 1 stat point in Intelligence and Strength each.

He noticed that the Exp. Required to level up to Level 10 was very high as compared to the previous levels. He complained to the system about this and the response he got was….
[The system does everything fairly. Host please don’t be a nagging baby and faithfully complete the mission. The system will never cheat you!]
Add’s forehead was full of black lines and he almost cursed this black hearted system. Calming himself he bought some more magazines with the CP and a smoke grenade and frag grenade. Add then continued his hunt, killing any goblins he could see. Under his hands tens of goblins died and their blood soaked the forest floor, and it was just the beginning.

“What…..why…?”
While Add was going on with his killing spree, a group of Adventurers was in peril. Hector one of the A ranked Adventurers who had gone in the east direction, stuttered as he saw the hellish scene before him. He was badly wounded, and the Adventurers with him were all dying.
Their blood had dyed the forest floor red.
Some were dead, their bodies cut up into pieces.
Some were still alive, as they screamed while being chopped up alive.
Some were trying to run away.
Hector’s hands trembled as he looked at his companions being slaughtered like pigs. He stood rooted on the ground, when suddenly a hand grabbed his leg. Looking down he saw an adventurer stained in blood, whose legs were chopped off. The man had horror in his eyes, as he looked at Hector.
“S….Save…..me….” he weakly said, but Hector felt dread overcome him. His two handed axed dropped from his trembling hands and he shook off the hand of the dying man and began running away.
“No no no! I….I am an A ranked adventurer! …I cannot die here! No I refuse to die…..No….”
Hector was cursing his luck as he ran. Everything was going smoothly, his group encounteredmany goblins but they were killed easily. Even the few hobgoblins that showed up were dealt with. Just when everything was going perfectly….it all went hill. Hector’s leg stumbled upon the corpse of an Adventurer, and he fell down.
“Damn it!!!!!!!”
He shouted like a madman and got up again trying to escape when an arrow hit his leg, making him fall on the ground. He screamed in pain and began crawling when from behind a shadow loomed over him. Looking at the figure, Hector’s lost the last bit of sanity he had. The figure raised its weapon aiming at Hector, a disgusting grin etched on its face.
“…How!? How can you !? You’re just a… No don’t kill me no….no… Ahhhhhhhhhhh…..”
And then there was silence in the forest. Only the dense scent of blood betrayed the otherwise tranquil atmosphere.
