The Military System - 16 Sudden Battle
Add decided to take a rest after killing the five goblin champions. He could easily go on for the night without sleeping, but decided not to. There was just no need to take unnecessary risks. He found a tall and sturdy looking tree and climbed onto it. He ate some dried meat jerky and bread which the guild had given him and then closed his eyes to rest. He slept lightly, holding the AK47 in his arms. His perception skill was always active if anything approached near him he would be ready to act. The night passed quite uneventfully except distant howls of beasts.
Next morning Add woke up with daybreak and as a habit did his routine training. After finishing that he returned to hunting goblins. By his estimates he was well within 10 kilometres into the forest. And the goblin nest should not be far. Strangely he didn’t see a single goblin even after an hour of searching, even as he went more deeper into the forest, there were many tracks but no goblins. He decided to keep going deeper into the forest.

On the other side just a few kilometres away.
In the adventurer’s camp things were not so simple anymore. Guild Master Jim anxiously paced back and forth while occasionally keeping watch on the road. The other adventurers were resting and tending to their wounds. The last night Jim had sent all injured and dead adventurers back to Rigel, and wrote a letter and sent it to the mayor asking for support. Although it was a bit humiliating for him to do so, things were getting out of hand. If the threat was not culled soon, they might have to face disastrous losses.
After sometime he saw dust rising on the road. Soon galloping of horses could be heard and he saw a group of people approaching them. These people were the city guards. Although Rigel was a small town, its position was a bit important as a connecting link in the region. As such a battalion of 400 guards was stationed under the command of the mayor of Rigel. After receiving the letter, the Mayor immediately dispatched a group of city guards. Although these were not proper soldiers, not even close, each guard was trained well and they were individually strong as a D or C ranked adventurer.
But they worked as a single unit and the strength their teamwork, was a force to be reckoned with. They were equipped with chainmail and light plate armour and had decent weapons. As the group reached the camp, the leading guard got down from his horse and went to the Guild master.
“Mr Jim. I am Dylan. The Mayor sent me to aid you as you requested.”
Jim looked at the number of guards that came and frowned.
“I specifically asked the Mayor for a 100 city guards. Why are there only 50 ?”
The man called Dylan smiled lightly.
“Guild Master, You are getting to tensed. To deal with some goblins we are more than enough.”
“You do not understand! An A ranked adventurer died damn it! By the hands of goblins at that! He was no pushover yet he died! Do you have any Idea what that means !? Does the mayor want more people to die !?”
Dylan frowned at the shouting of the guild master. His position was lower than Jim, but he like many of the City guards disdained the Adventurers. To them adventurers were no better than shabby mercenaries. Still he retained his calm face.
“Well we are all you have…..like it or not, there is nothing more to be done.” He stated and walked towards his group, “just tell us when you are ready to move”
Vlad, looked at the arrogant city guards and grunted in displeasure.
“These bastards, just because they are employed by the government, they act so high and mighty. Bunch of pretentious morons.”
The Guild master sighed and waved his hand signalling Vlad to stop.
“Leave it, as it is, right now we need their help. Didthe scouts return with any news ?”
“Yes. I believe we have located their nest this time. However….”
Vlad’s expression became a bit troubled. The Guild master sighed and narrowed his eyes.
“Gather all the men. We need to make a plan of action.”

A few more hours passed. It was now noon. The summer sun was beating down harshly and Add even with his enhanced stats was feeling the heat, which made his mood worse. He had only found few goblins and hob goblins after all this time, earning him some measly Exp. and CP. Right then he suddenly felt somethings approaching him. He quickly crouched with the AK in position, and flipped the Safety to semiautomatic.
Following the rustling of dead leaves and branches few wolf like figures appeared before Add. He recognised them as Dire wolves. He had read about them in the library, these were a common species of monsters in these forests. These monsters were similar to the wolves found on earth but were about twice as large. They were much more vicious than a normal wolf and also more intelligent. Dire wolves tend to hunt in packs like there wolf relatives. They were D ranked monsters but a pack of them was as deadly as a C rank Monster.
Add had intruded upon the territory of a group of dire wolves. There were around ten of them led by a alpha with black fur. They stopped a few metres from him and were cautiously looking at Add while surrounding him from all sides. He too was eyeing them tensely. Dire wolves were much more intelligent than goblins, they could gauge the strength of their enemies and apply complex tactics in their attacks. Both sides stood at a stalemate, as the wolves growled at Add, their large canines in clear view. After almost a minute passed, one wolf could not wait anymore and jumped at Add from the side.
He immediately aimed at it, its belly in clear sight, and opened fire. The 7.62 mm rounds tore through its hide but its momentum remained same Add jumped back avoiding its large body when another wolf appeared right behind him its large jaws aiming for his neck. Add barely dodged but another wolf took this chance and sliced his back with its razor like claws. Deep wounds opened up on his back and blood began flowing.
Add immediately dodged another claw as he rolled around ignoring the pain and opened fire again. Two more wolves were hit at close range and died but the others jumped at him.
“Persistent bastards!” Add cursed.
He swiftly took out his pistol with his left hand, and holding a gun in each hand opened fire. Many of his shots missed as the wolves were very swift, and he got scratched by them a few times. Soon his bullets ran out, but he had no time to reload. He had killed six of them by now and only four remained. He jumped back as he hit a wolf with the rifle’s but and began running. The four wolves began chasing him. Their speed was very fast and they instantly caught up with him, but the few seconds were enough for Add to reload his AK. He was about to turn back and fire when he felt a chill on his back and moved to the side. The next moment his left shoulder was bit down by the Alpha wolf. Under the tremendous bite force the bones in his shoulder immediately shattered. If he had been a moment late, his head would have been crushed.
“Ahhhhhhh”
Add could not help but cry out. The wolf shook its head tearing of meat from Add’s shoulder and threw him away. Add rolled on the ground and his blood flowed like a fountain. Although [Accelerated Healing Lv.4] increased his body’s healing speed by 11%, the damage was too severe. He rolled for a few metres and then stopped. The pistol fell from his grip as his left arm was now useless.
Luckily Add had somewhat resistance to pain from his previous life. Under such dire conditions his mind become very calm. Mustering all his willpower he turned his body, the four wolves were a few feet from him, his right hand instinctively turned the selector lever to full auto. Just as the mouth of the Alpha came in for another bite, Add pressed the trigger.
*RATATATATA RATATATATA RATATATATA*
Instantly half a clip of bullets was emptied into the head of the Alpha. It didn’t even get to whimper and died. The other three remaining wolves, stopped in their tracks and looked at Add with fear. With their leader dead and most of their companions dead, they hesitated to attack Add but looking at the bloodied Add lying there, they slowly began to approach. His vision was darkening, and he felt all strength leave his body. Red warnings began glowing in front of him.
[Warning! Host’s HP is at 20%! Condition critical!]
[Warning! Please consume a Healing item!]
Add’s mind was muddled. He felt death inching close once again.
“Am I going to die here ?”
“Killed by some damn wolves !?”
Some lines appeared in his mind.
[Dire wolves are very dangerous monsters to deal with. They hunt in groups and are very crafty]
[It is not uncommon for lone Adventurers to fall victim to Dire wolves]
[It is very common to die by the attacks of Dire Wolves]
“As if Ill believe that !!!”
“I died once! And I got another chance at life! As if Ill die like this!”
Add screamed in his mind.
[Ding! Due to the host’s undying will to live a new skill has been unlocked!]
[Ding! New skill [Blood For Blood] acquired]
[Special Skill [Blood For Blood] : When the desire for blood reaches its peak, no one will be spared. When HP is below 20%Host enters a berserk state and gains 50% boost to stats for 60 seconds in exchange of 5% HP. Cool down : 24 hours]
The skill came as a life saver for him. His vision immediately cleared. With very fast movements he aimed at the wolves and emptied the remaining bullets into them. The 3 wolves were hit by the bullets and gave up any ideas of attacking Add and ran away. Before the effects of the skill wore off, Add quickly purchased a medium Healing serum for 50 CP which instantly recovered 200 HP. His HP which dropped below 30 became full immediately. The various scratches, gaping wounds on his back, and the mangled shoulder began healing immediately. In a few minutes all his wounds were healed but his body was very weak. Add picked up his guns and retreated from the area as the wolves could return with more of their kind. While walking he viewed the system messages.
[Ding! You have killed Dire wolf × 7]
[Ding! You have earned 600 Exp. And 350 CP]
After walking for sometime, he sat under a tree and rested. He closed his eyes and began reflecting on his actions.
“I was too careless till now…”
“I took things to simply and slacked off. This world is not Earth. Even wolves here can easily kill me. If I had not levelled up, and if the system didn’t give that skill right at that moment….if the alpha hadn’t missed….I would have died many times already….”
“I have to be even more careful from now on. There are many things here which can kill me like squashing a bug. I won’t be so lucky every time.”
The desire to grow stronger burned even more fiercely in his eyes. Add checked his status.

He looked at the amount of Exp. Needed and sighed. He hadn’t even obtained a third of the required amount.
“There is nothing I can do…. Lets take one step at a time.”
After an hour passed Add had regained some strength. It was nearing dusk and following his habit, he climbed a tree for safety. Just as he was resting he saw peculiar flashes of light in a part of the forest a few kilometres away from him. Add had a hunch aswhat was in that direction. Thinking for a while he decided to check it out. He got down from the tree and swiftly headed in the direction of those flashes of lights.
