The Military System - 23 Departure From Rigel
He spent the next month preparing and didn’t take any quests. He had already collected over 300 silver coins. Since he planned on leaving Rigel, so he began gathering information about the geo-political situation of the kingdom from various sources like the library, local people and the Guild.
He had purchased the HK417A2 Battle rifle and the Barrett M107A1 sniper rifle because he wanted more power. The HK was much more powerful than the AK while the Barrett was perfect for penetrating hard armour, or thick skins and shells of monsters. He also purchased a new combat knife. As he levelled up to Lv. 20 the system unlocked new features. Firstly he could now directly take out things from his inventory with his thoughts. Also he could now use CP to buy Skill points. The conversion being 1000 CP for 1 Skill point. It didn’t seem too much but in the long run, if he had many skills, he would need to spend an astronomical amount of CP on this. That aside, his status had also improved a lot in this time.

He mainly focused on strength and Stamina, and also put some in Wisdom and Intelligence to better use skills. As per the suggestion of the system [Basic Pistol Mastery] had been merged with [Firearms Mastery] and Add got his 4 skill points back as a refund which he used on other skills.
Before he left Rigel, Add decided to have a cold weapon in his arsenal, as always using a firearm was not the best option. In this world, there was no shortage of strong people, and anyone would be tempted by the power and efficiency of a gun. Add dared be so open in Rigel as there were few people stronger than him present in that town. However, the continent of Midgard was huge, and there were people with such strength, that A – Rank adventurers who were the strongest in this small frontier town, were but ants before them.
Over the course of two months he had collected some information from the Guild and few merchants who regularly travelled across the kingdom of Reinglief. From them he got to know that the Capital of Reingleif called Alsdein, was over 15,000 kilometres from Rigel. The distance was so large that it took years to travel to the capital by foot or horse. Fortunately, there were many flying monsters which had been tamed by humans, facilitating their movements across the kingdom and the ever so gigantic continent. Also there were special magic formations called ‘teleport gates’ which were owned by the royal family which could send large numbers of people and objects directly across long distances instantly, at the cost of tremendous amounts of mana.
And in this huge kingdoms there were countless powerhouses who could kill the current him like swatting a fly. As such it was unwise to reveal his weapons before such people, and attract lethal attention. So he decided that he would only use the modern weapons like guns when he encountered critical situations, at least until he was strong enough to ensure his safety. So after going through the cold weapons like swords, spears, bows etc. available with the system shop, he decided on a sword. As it was the easiest weapon to master as well as quite flexible in usage.

Add chose the Katana for many reasons. He had always been impressed with Japanese swords in his past life, the Katana in particular. He liked its distinctive appearance: a curved, slender, single-edged blade with a circular or squared guard and long grip to accommodate two hands. The edge had a wavy design which looked beautiful. The Katana was a blade specialized for fast & powerful slashing and stabbing. They were made from a specialized Japanese steel called ‘Tamahagane’ which is created from a traditional smelting process that results in several, layered steels with different carbon concentrations, which increase the durability and damage of the blade.
Although longswords were versatile with many angles of attack & defence, Add chose to use the heavier and harder to use Katana. The reason being that, when compared with a Katana of similar dimensions, it lacked in the damage out put and cutting power and speed. Its single, hardened, wedge-like edge was capable of extraordinary sharpness and a curved blade is mechanically superior to a straight one at delivering edge blows to produce injury. And due to its hardness, the single curving edge of the katana is very good at penetrating even hard materials with straight-on strikes. Although the longsword won in versatility, defensive ability and few other grounds, he decided to go with speed and damage.
After choosing a sword, he then had to get some skills. For him who was a complete novice in terms of swords, sword related skills were a necessity. After going through the various skills, he picked three which were best suited for his weapon.

In the backyard of the inn, Add took out the Katana from his inventory. The system was kind enough to provide a sheath for the blade. The Katana was around 1.5 metres in length including the hilt, and weighed more than 2 Kg. As soon as he held it in his hands Add felt as if he had used it for a long time. Such was the might of skills Ah! The hilt covered in cloth, along with the rectangular guard, provided a firm grip. Pulling out the weapon from its sheath, showed a slightly curved blade with a cold metalling sheen. It looked ready to kill.
“So this is swords play huh ?”
He swung the large blade around with some effort, and it sliced apart the air with ‘whoosh’ sounds. And performed the basic moves of a Katana like ‘Slash’, ‘Stab’, Guard and parry many times. Although these were but the most basic of moves which he instinctively knew because of the skills, coupled with the passive bonuses of his other skills, he would able to deal substantial damage.
For a few days he also began swinging his sword alongside his routine training. As a result, his body gradually got used to the weapon he was using for the first time. At the same time, he also familiarised himself with the various monsters and other threats he would encounter on his travels. The Guild had its own collection of detailed descriptions of such things which he could access thanks to his A – Rank. After a month of preparing he was finally ready to depart. He decided his first destination to be the city of ‘Helmsberg’ which was around 500 kilometres from Rigel.
Helmsberg was the last city of Reinglief in the North, bordering the great forest of Waldesten and served as a important strategic location. Built on the banks of the great river of Floren, it was the largest fortress cityof the kingdom with an average radius of over 20 kilometres and housed 5 million people. The royal family had an army of 800,000 troops along with many powerful magicians stationed in this town to deal with the frequent monster attacks. Helmsberg alone defended the Northern frontier of Reingleif from powerful monsters while also providing a deterrent for the neighbouring kingdom ofSolia.
“Boy, I heard you are leaving ?”
One day the Guild Master suddenly asked him when he visited the guild to read some books.
“En. In a few days old man….”
“…..So where are you headed ?”
Add looked at the Guild Master who was smiling lightly and said “Helmsberg” at which his expression changed and became serious.
“That place ? But what do you want to do there ?”
“I just want to see the world. It seems to be a good place to start from…” he said as he flipped through a book. The guild master was silent for sometime and then said in a grave tone.
“Boy, as your senior let me give you an advice. That place is a gathering of all kinds of trouble. You better watch your back there. People like you, tend to die early in that place where all kinds of hidden tigers and crouching dragons are lurking.”
“Here, we A – Ranked Adventurers are basically the strongest, but there even S – Ranked Adventurers are the weakest. There are the formidable Mana Practitioners and the terrifying Wizards and Witches whose powers are hundreds of times greater than ours. Do not flaunt yourself there boy, or you will regret it. Take it as the words of a man who has seen the world more than you.”
Add quietly listened to his words and didn’t speak. However he took note of it in his mind. After saying all that Jim the Guild master left. He was sighing inwardly. Helmsberg was a nasty place, he knew about many dark things which happened there. Many young men and women went there to try their luck and become prosperous only to disappear forever. As for the brat, he was very arrogant, but not necessarily a bad person. He didn’t warn him out of kindness, he only felt that it would be a shame if such a strong warrior died too early.
(Sigh….with this another A – Rank Adventurer leaves Rigel…well not that we needed too many anyway….I should get some beer….)
A few days later Add left Rigel. He wore the combat gear except the helmet and covered himself with a black cloak to look less conspicuous. He placed the dagger on the back of his utility belt and carried the Katana on the side of his utility belt. He had to make an attachment point for it by removing a magazine pocket from the belt. He also carried the M20-A at his thigh for emergencies. He had filled his rucksack with spare clothes, water and dried rations for the way and also some maps he collected.
Standing outside the gates of Rigel he looked at it one last time. He had no particular connections with anyone in this town, still he felt a faint sense of attachment. This was after all the first place he had stayed in this world. He would only return here after a long time, but then things would be completely different.
“So long Rigel….”
With those words, Add the soldier reborn in another world began his travel.

But ne didn’t expect that only a few days after he began his travel, he would encounter a scene straight out of a light novel.
