(You damned…..black hearted system! Are you f***ing kidding me!?)
Add cursed in his mind. This ridiculous mission suddenly appeared before him. Now he had to go save some Elves he had never known! Hell he had never seen them even! For him who didn’t usually do things unrelated to his interests, this was a pain. In response the familiar blue panels once again floated before his eyes.
[Host, the system exists for your sake. It toils for your sake. It gives such lusciously rewarding missions for your sake! What ever it does, is ultimately for your benefit! Please do not curse at this innocent systemand dutifully complete the mission and you will be rewarded heavily.]
Add was silent for sometime.
(System…..where are the said Elves?)
[Apologies Host, the system cannot tell you that. Please find out yourself.]
He fell silent again, and spoke sometime later.
(System…what do I need to save them from ?)
[Apologies Host, the system cannot tell you that. Please find out yourself.]
Add’s forehead was covered in black lines and a the corner of his lips was twitching violently. He fell silent again…..
(My good system…?) He said in a caring tone
[Yes Host ?]
(You know…right now…I really, really wish, that you were a real person…..not just a screen….) His tone was still very caring, as if talking to a dear bosom friend.
[Why Host ?]
(So that I could cut you up and feed you to dogs you damned system!) And his caring tone turned into a raged murderous shout.
[…]
While Add was having his ‘serious’ communication with the system, the two girls Lilliana and Annavel were looking at him curiously and s bit warily. The strange human boy who was leaving suddenly stopped and was standing quietly, and occasionally they could feel a cold killing intent radiating from him, causing them to tremble slightly.
On the other hand the person in question was fed up with this whimsical system, however he could not refuse the mission, as the penalty was pretty harsh.

He checked his status and found that the rewards for the mission would be enough to level him up twice, maybe more. It was getting increasingly difficult to level up with each level, partly as there were not any strong monsters he could use to gain Exp. Even A ranked monsters which were the strongest creatures he had faced yet, gave 200~400 Exp. at best, so right now he was in a pinch as how to level up faster. He could go on a extended hunt killing monsters one after another, but that would take him hundreds of such monsters and A – Ranks were not so abundant here. This was partly the reason, that he had chosen to leave for Helmsberg. Strong monsters and magical beasts were abundant around that city, and it would be easier for him to level up there.
(*Sigh*…whatever…I will just do it….Not like I had an option even….)
He turned around to look at the two girls. Lilliana had the arrow lodged in her leg removed, and the wound was roughly bandaged by a piece of cloth by Annavel, yet blood was still dripping from it. He looked around in his inventory and pulled out a basic healing serum and then turned back and walked up to the two girls. Watching him come closer Annavel readied her caution for any unexpected moves while Lilliana looked at him questioningly.
“Here drink this…it will help with the wound…..”
Add said as he passed the bottle of healing serum to Lilliana. Now that he had to escort them to their home, which he had no idea as to where it was, bringing along such an injury was unacceptable. The Elf in question took the bottle and looked at it strangely. It was a cylindrical tube with a viscous red liquid inside, sealed by a cork.
“This….” She was hesitant.
“Its a healing….liquid. Drink it, your wound should recover more or less after that.” (Add)
“Like a healing potion ?” (Lilliana)
“…..Yes something like that….” (Add)
She felt a bit hesitant as she knew nothing about this drink. She of course had seen healing potions, but they were mostly translucent in appearance. She wondered if the boy before her was trying to trick her.
“Lily…..I don’t think you should drink it ? What if its something bad?”
Annavel whispered in her ear. Clearly she was not trusting of Add, a human.
“But Anna, he saved us….and he is strong…I don’t think he would need to use underhanded means if he meant us harm…..” (Lilliana)
“Uhhh….but he is a human…..we cannot trust him!”(Annavel)
Meanwhile Add was wondering, “Am I really so not trustable ?
“Its fine…..if I wanted to harm you two, I could have done it many times already…its just a medicine….”
Despite Annavel’s protests, Lilliana looked once again at Add and looking at his calm expression, she made up her mind. Her wound was painful and she had lost a lot of blood, if it was not treated quickly things could go downhill. She opened the cork and drunk the serum in one go, under the worried gaze of Annavel.
It was sweet in taste and right after drinking it she felt a gentle warmth engulf her body. A burning sensation arose in her leg which was wounded which gradually turned into an itch and finally disappeared completely after sometime along with her pain. She quickly undid the bandaging and saw that her would had completely healed, and fresh skin had appeared where the deep wound previously was, just a little while ago. Even Annavel was at a loss of words.
“…This…..is really miraculous!
She exclaimed loudly. Although healing potions were not uncommon, they were usually nowhere close to this fast in action. Such a potion should be a very high grade one, she thought.
(Who is this human ? He is so strong…..and he has such miraculous potions…this must be very precious….for him to give it out like its nothing…..just what is his back ground ?) Lilliana wondered.
“So is your leg fine now ?” (Add)
“Ah!” She broke out from her thoughts at his question. Swinging her leg a few times, Lilliana found that it was as good as it was never hurt.
“Yes! Its perfectly fine now! I owe you another one Mr. Add!”
Add waved his hand dismissing he concern.
“Well then, if you ladies don’t mind why don’t we have a little chat ? I am quite interested in knowing about Elves you see…..”
He faked curiosity. He needed to get some useful information from them, if he wanted to complete the mission. But directly asking them things like “where is your home?” “take me there….” would have adverse effects, so he chose to take a slow approach.
Annavel hesitated, but Lilliana readily nodded, dragging the former, who was still unconvinced, with her. She wanted to know more about this human, who looked very dangerous, yet at the same time gave a feeling of security. Led by Add, they left the area and went to the lakeside where they sat down opposite to each other. Lilliana began narrating her story. She started with some information about Elves.
Elves believed that they were the children ofthe Goddess of Nature, Fjörgyn (Fiorgin). They were divided into 3 sub races, the High Elves, The Wood Elves and the Dark Elves. It is believed that the High Elves were the direct descendants of Fjörgyn and the progenitors of the other two races. All their races were long lived, living for thousands of years, but their reproductive abilities were modest, hence their numbers were quite few.
She and Annavel belonged to the wood Elves who were adept in the ways of living in forests and using many types of magic. She was 250 years old and Annavel was 150 years old. They belonged to a small Elven village which had around a 100 residents. They originally lived in the depths of the forest, away from all human contact, much like many other Elven villages. Elves were solitary by nature and even among themselves. Their villages were often tens and sometimes even a few hundreds of kilometres away. She was the daughter of the village chief, and Annavel was her good friend. For hundreds of years they had lived at that place happily among themselves, in harmony with the forest, tending to their crops and passing life. Their village was protected by an illusion spell which could not be breached easily, as such for hundreds of years they lived in peace.
Until one day, a group of human hunters who were hunting monsters in the forest found their village by chance. The Elves who knew how dangerous humans were tried to capture them all so that they could not reveal the location of their village to other humans, but those hunters managed to escape. As the Elves feared, soon hundreds of humans attacked their village wanting to capture them as slaves. They fought back, but before the large numbers of humans, they were doomed. Most of them died fighting including the Parents of the two girls. Only a few of them including the women and children managed to escape from the village. Having nowhere to go, they arrived in this area a few months back.
They knew that this place was dangerous, as it was barely 200 kilometres from a large human city, but they had no choice. Homeless and hopeless, they had nowhere else to go. Today the two of them had been exploring the forest for herbs to make medicine when they were suddenly ambushed by bandits, and then Add saved them. While speaking, the two girls’ eyes often shed tears, some scars were very difficult to heal.
Add sighed, he now knew the reason why these two girls were so wary of him. No wonder. If your family and friends were killed by a group you would naturally come to hate and loathe them. These girls had it really tough, if he had not been passing by here today, who knows what would happen to these two girls. It definitely would not have been anything good.
“Umm Mr. Add now that you know about us…..why don’t you tell us something about yourself as well ?” Annavel asked slowly
“Anna!” Lilliana rebuked her.
But Add nodded anyway. He looked at the sky, his gaze melancholic and distant as if searching for something in the vast cosmos. After a few moments he shook his head lightly and said….
“I’m just a traveller. A traveller From An Endless Time And A Countless Distance. That’s all you need to know about me.”
The two girls had wide eyes hearing such a confusing introduction. Ignoring their confused gazes, he stood up. He took out his helmet from the inventory and put it on. With a snap of his fingers his Katana on the belt vanished and the HK417A2 appeared in his hands.
*Click – Clack*
Turning off the safety and chambering the first bullet, he looked at the two who had their eyes widened in surprise and shock.
“Well then Miss Lilliana and Miss Annavel, lets get moving shall we? I will escort you to your home. Come on lets go….”
