The Military System - 27 Offering Help
Lilliana was at a loss. She had not expected Add to suddenly want to accompany them to their home. She instinctively hesitated. Although Add had saved them, but this demand of his was, in mild terms, unacceptable.
“You human! So that was your plan from the start!”
Annavel immediately drew her sword and took a stance pointing her sword at Add and coming before Lilliana, to protect her. She knew that this human was very strong and dangerous, yet she had to take her stand.
“Lily stand back! I knew this human had ill intentions! He definitely wants to go to our camp and capture us all !! I bet he hired those bandits just to gain our trust! This filthy humans are all the same!!!”
Her tone was filled with hatred. Lilliana also didn’t speak. She didn’t want to think that Add had such intentions but Annavel’s words sounded convincing.
The person in question looked dully at the duo. If not for the damn mission issued by the damned system, he wanted to just leave them and leave, but the rewards and the penalty held him back. The two girls looked at him with gr A sense of tension filled the atmosphere.
“Say….”
Just as he was about to speak, a faint sound like a whistle echoed in the forest. Add looked at the direction from where it came with a questioning gaze whereas, the expressions of the two girls changed abruptly. Their faces paled and terror filled their eyes.
“It cannot be….” (Lilliana)
“Oh no!!” (Annavel)
Without saying a single word to Add, the two of them madly dashed into the forest ignoring him.
“Is the sound perhaps related to them ? For them to become so desperate instantly….”
He also decided to follow them, while maintaining a certain distance. As the girls desperately ran through the forest, they didn’t discover, or to say, they couldn’t care to discover the human who was following them some 50 metres behind of them.
The whistle like sound they heard was actually an emergency warning used by the Elves. Something serious must have happened for the whistle to be blown. After around 15 minutes of intense running through the dense foliage, the two girls reached the temporary camp which the Elven survivors had made. There were around 30 Elves present there, and all of them had tense faces.
“What happened !?”
Lilliana who was, after the death of her parents, the leader of the survivors, went running towards the other Elves, followed by Annavel.
Add who stopped after confirming that the two girls had reached their camp safely, retreated a few hundred metres from the camp. He stood on a tree branch and looked at the Elves with his binoculars.
[Ding! Mission : Plight Of the Elves (1) Completed!]
[Rewards of 5000 Exp. and 2,500 CP received!]
The system faithfully rewarded him as expected.
[Ding! Mission : Plight of the Elves (2) Initiated!]
[ Part (2) : Help the Elves fend off the incoming human attack and ensure their survival! No more than 10 Elves should die or the mission will be considered a failure!
Rewards : 7,000 Exp. and 3,500 CP.]
(Hmm …..so humans are going to attack them…. No wonder the Elves look so fearful and despaired…..well turns out it is humans only….that’s still doable….)
Add looked at his stats, he had a total of 9,662 CP now. He purchased some magazines for his HK417A2 and AX338 bringing his balance to 9,000. When up against humans, and when the other side had a numerical advantage, Add decided to take the traditional approach of guerrilla warfare.
At the Elven Camp –
“Oh Lilliana you are finally back!”
A female elf shouted, and all eyes followed, landing on Lilliana. Instantly the Elves began gathering around her. Everyone had something to say, making the situation disorderly.
“Everyone please calm down! Tell us what is wrong, who blew the whistle and why ?” Said Annavel coming beside Lilliana. Her loud voice caused the Elves to quieten down a lot.
“It was me who blew the whistle….” A young looking Elven male said as he came forward.
After the few Elves had escaped the attack on their village, most of the adults had perished or were injured, leaving the younger ones to take up the various chores and duties. The Elf in question was working as one of the few scouts and sentries keeping watch around the camp. Today as well he was doing his job like he had been doing the past few weeks when he discovered some activity inside the forest. When he went closer to see what exactly was going on, he was terrified and immediately ran back to inform the other Elves and blew the whistle.
“There are humans! A lot of them, over a hundred! They have formed a camp around twenty tõr away.”
Tõr was an Elven unit of distanceroughly equal to 800 metres. As such a large group of humans were gathered less than 16 kilometres from them was a really alarming news. The expressions of all Elves were dark. Mothers hugged their children tightly and few Elves who had seen the death of their friends and families by the hands of humans were traumatised and were trembling.
Lilliana too was very worried. She asked for more details to the Elf and estimated that the humans had in fact come for them specifically. They had escaped from the village very hurriedly and desperately, so a lot of traces of their escape were left. Following them was not too difficult for experienced humans. She turned towards Annavel who also had a difficult expression on her face.
“Anna….what do you think we should do…?” (Lilliana)
“….I….I don’t know Lily…..If those humans attack us now, we will be slaughtered easily….I don’t know….maybe we should escape again…?” (Annavel)
Lilliana shook her head.
“Even if we try to escape….at this distance…..they will surely catch up with us…”
“….But we cannot fight with them…we barely have anyone capable of fending against humans….not to mention over a hundred of them…” Annavel clenched her sword. Her heart was filled with unwillingness and helplessness. She knew her strength was no where enough to protect her people and she felt immense anger at her own weakness and even more hatred towards the humans.
“Damn it all!” she stabbed her sword into the ground and cursed.
The other Elves also had similar feelings. They had lost their homes, families and friends to the Humans and once again they were on the verge of being attacked by them. This caused despair to creep into everyone’s mind. Amidst the silence that had descended into the camp, gradually the sounds of footsteps appeared.
Some Elves looked towards the source of the sound and their eyes widened.
“H….human!”
An Elf shouted, his finger tremblingly pointing towards someone. Immediately all the Elves broke from their thoughts and looked at the direction he was pointing.
A single human boy dressed in all black was walking towards the elves. He was wearing some strange armour. The human kept walking toward the Elves, his boots producing sharp sounds with each step.
“Are they all ready attacking!?”
“Quick take the children and run!”
“Oh goddess Fjörgyn….save us!”
The Elves began panicking as soon as Add showed up. While some braver ones took up their weapons and prepared to fight, most of them panicked and began running away. Annavel immediately realised that they had forgotten this particular human after hearing the whistle.
(Damn it! This bastard human followed us! Did he plan all this from the start!?)
She immediately ran towards him followed by some other Elves while Lilliana tried to calm down the panicked Elves.
“Everyone please calm down!” She was shouting trying to pace the Elves.
“You how dare you follow us!? What is your goal !?” Meanwhile Annavel pointed her sword towards Add and shouted, making him stop. The few Elves around her also surrounded him.
He looked at her and then the other Elves near him briefly but ignored them and kept walking, and went past her. This made the already angry Annavel mad, but just as she was about to lash out with her sword, something cold suddenly touched her throat. Add’s sword was at her throat, the cold blade just touching her skin. The other Elves were also terrified.
“You….” Annavel gulped. The cold of the steel was being felt from her skin. Death was just that much far away from her.
“If you speak any more bullshit….” he said in a chilling voice, “I will just chop your head off right now…..do you believe me ?”
His tone was so calm and cold that she felt that he really would do it. This boy who could slaughter men like he was butchering pigs, would indeed do it. She was also terrified at the speed with which he had drawn his weapon, her eyes had not been able to keep up with his movements. This was to be expected, after all, she was just a novice in sword arts who had been practicing for a few years while Add had a cheat like the system. His sword skills were already on par with the average swordsmen, and the katana skills were especially unknown to the Elves.
“Mr Add!”
Lilliana had just pacified the Elves somewhat by telling that Add saved her and Anna. Although she would have preferred that a human not appear here, but since Add had already arrived, she could only sigh. But she got scared when she saw Add’s sword on Anna’s neck, and hurriedly ran towards them, and Add too put his sword back into the sheath. Lilliana gave a sigh of relief and asked the other Elves to put down their weapons too, which they did unwillingly. Many other Elves were also looking at them from the distance.
“Mr. Add why have you followed us here ? You see, we are in a troublesome situation here, so my people are very scared. We are not on good terms with humans so…..If—”
But before she could complete her words.
“Miss Lilliana…..I know that you have a problem…but what if I said…. I had just the solution for your problem”
His words made all the surrounding Elves including Annavel and Lilliana shocked.
_ _ _ _ _
“So that’s the situation….”
Lilliana, or rather Lily, as she asked Add to call her, explained the details of the situation like the location of the group of humans, their numbers etc.to him. Although she didn’t know exactly what he wanted, he had saved her before and was quite strong. If he was working with the other humans, he had little reason to appear here and try to deceive them as the Elves were in no way able to defend themselves. There was simply no need for him to pretend if he wanted to harm them.
Add listened intently and nodded. Although the Elves wanted to drive him away, since their leader had not done so, they could only wait and see. Annavel was much quieter now. She knew that she better not mess with this violent human. After thinking for a while he stood up.
“Well Miss Lily, I would need someone to guide me to the location then.”
“Do you mean, you will take action right now !?” Lily asked in surprise to which Add nodded.
“Rest assured as I said…I will deal with, more like I have to…..”
The last part was spoken silently, so no one heard him. Lily looked at him with a troubled expression.
“Fine then…let me discuss with the others…..” She called her followers and discussed the matter, while Add waited at the side cleaning his AX338, and HK417A2. He would be using them soon.
“Lily can we really trust him ? Let aside the fact that he is a human, he is a dangerous person….I…I don’t think we should trust him….” Anna tried to convince Lily, “what if he betrays us….we cannot trust a human…”
The other Elves also gave similar opinions, but Lily was clear headed. She was looking at their options, which honestly were very limited. Here, a strong person like Add was offering them help, which they desperately needed…further without any help they would surely be killed or enslaved by the humans, and even if he betrayed them, the result would he the same. In the rare chance that he did not betray them, still even for Add, she had little hope that he could take care of over s hundred strong humans. Finally after a few minutes of discussions she was able to make the others agree to taking help from Add. She bowed to him
“Mr. Add we would all be very grateful for your help!”
Add nodded lightly. It was decided that Annavel, the Elf who had first seen the humans and two other Elves would take Add to the location while the rest of the Elves would begin moving away from this camp. Although they had little hope of escaping, nobody wanted to sit and wait for death.
And so Add, along with the group left towards the human camp. But none of them knew that what was going to happen today, would mark the beginning of a chain of events which would lead to a fate that no one in this world had ever thought of.
