The Military System - 6 Subjugation
The midday sun shone upon a dense growth of foliage, which consisted of mostly tall trees spreading their branches all aroundand dense shrubbery covering the forest floor, trying to get what little light passed through the dense canopies. Most of the sunlight was stopped by the tall trees, making the forest somewhat dark. The forest floor was littered with dead and rotting leaves, branches, fallen trees, these coupled with the light drizzle the previous night formed the unique smell of a forest.
Amidst the thick undergrowth, on a small tree, a pair of heterochromatic eyes were looking over the surroundings with great concentration. The eyes belonged to a figure covered in mud and greenish paste, which covered every part of its body except the eyes. The figure vigilantly looked on, as many small animals scurried about in the undergrowth while occasionally a few large ones would also pass. The cacophony of the millions of insects gave life, to this otherwise quite forest.
This figure was Add. He was siting upon the tree, in a way which almost blended him with the tree. He was here to complete the quest he had taken from the guild. As for why he was covered in mud and dirt, we will have to rewind the time to early morning when he accepted the quest.
Add decided upon a quest after looking at the request board for sometime. He took off the parchment and headed over to the same receptionist lady who had registered him.
“Oh, its you! So have you decided on your first quest?”
Add nodded
“Well then let me see…. Wait, this…..”
She took the parchment from his hands and was a bit startled.
“Umm, are you sure you want to take this quest ?” She looked at him seriously to which Add disinterestedly nodded. The lady looked at the weak looking boy and once again checked the parchment.

Goblin Subjugation, was a very common quest, yet not many Adventurers took it. There were two main reasons. Firstly the new and low ranked adventurers mostly worked solo or in group of two or three. For the newbies, who lacked experience, goblins were a dangerous target as they often overwhelmed the rookie adventurers with sheer numbers and dirty tricks. Oved time many young Adventurers had lost their lives like this and thus the Rookies avoided it. Only the desperate and overconfident ones generally accepted such quests. As for the stronger, higher rank adventurers, therewards for slaying goblins just didn’t make it worth. They used their time to do quests which paid better. As such the problem of goblins kept nagging the people.
“*Sigh*… Fine then, but just to remind you Goblins are no easy pickings. You have to be very careful dealing with them.” The lady again cautioned him
“Actually, I am not very familiar with goblins, though I have heard of them, I know barely anything useful regarding their habits and such. Can you give me some information ?” Add half lied, half spoke the truth and asked the guild lady. Though he had heard of the term ‘goblin’ it was pretty much one time occurrence when he was reading an eastern novel to pass time. The lady raised a brow but told him anyway.
“Alright. Goblins are humanoid monsters and normally they are about half the size of a normal human. They normally hunt in groups of 3 to 10. Sometimes, though rarely they form large groups as well which may contain tens of goblins, leaded by a Goblin King, an evolved goblin. They are active mainly at dawn and dusk and spend most of the daytime in their caves or shady places. Although their eyesight is average, their sense of smell is very strong.”
Add began formulating some ideas to deal with these pests. Hunting humans was the speciality of his unit back on Earth.
“Those scum love to abduct human women to produce offspring since the number of female goblins tends to be much lower than males. Who knows how many women have fallen prey to their vulgar lust!”
The receptionist’s tone was filled with hatred as she said these words. Add felt that if she could she would burn all goblins in the pits of hell.
“They use crude weapons like stone daggers, clubs, wooden spears, however some evolved goblins and experienced ones may also use weapons stolen from humans.”
“Ordinary goblins are only as strong as a ten year old child, however they are very agile and always attack in large groups of 10 to 15. Now there are many types of evolved goblins as well. Goblin archers, Goblin Swordsman, Goblin spearman are the common ones. The know some weapon skills and are troublesome if more in number. Then there are Goblin Champions and Hobgoblins. They both are taller than the average human and also much stronger. They know to use weapons efficiently and pose a high amount of danger.”
“Lastly, there are Goblin Kings. They are the strongest type of goblins, usually one appears among a thousand normal goblins. They are very big and pose strength equal to an A rank Adventurer if not a bit stronger. Spotting a goblin king means that a big attack is going to happen soon…”
Add listened to her explanation attentively. He now had a basic understanding of his target. The receptionist gave him a map which showed the estimated location of the goblins, along with a large leather sack for bringing the goblin ears as proof.
And thus add reached the forest a little time before midday. He started making his preparations. Preparations for a soldier was even more crucial than the actual mission. A soldier had to be prepared for any possible as well as impossible situations. He knew the goblins had good sense of smell, so he covered himself in mud and dirt, then tearing and mashing leaves of some trees and shrubs he made a paste which further helped in covering his smell. Then he silently searched the area for any tracks. He didn’t have to search for long and found what seemed to be a forest path which looked quite fresh.
Add found a short tree which was pretty well hidden in shadows of the tall trees and hid in its branches, waiting for his prey.
“It would be so nice if I had a sniper rifle…*Sigh*….”
The cheapest pistol in the System’s shop was 1000 CP while the cheapest sniper rifle was 7500 CP, for Add who had only 360 CP, these were pipe dreams for now.
“System, do you loan weapons ?” He asked with no hope
“…..” the system as usual remained silent.
Add had to make do with the combat knife.
“I have to be swift and attack their vitals. Hopefully, since they are humanoid, they should have the same weak points as humans.”
After over two hours of waiting, Add finally saw his target for the first time. Green skinned, short with bent posture and crooked noses, drooping pointy ears and a few coarse hair here and there on their body. They wore some rags which were probably animal skins and were covered in filth and dirt. Goblins. Add had seen them for the first time in both his lives , but he was already disgusted by their appearance.
There were 3 goblins, two were holding wooden branches asclubs while one which appeared to be a bit stronger than the two was carrying a makeshift wooden spear. The goblins were holding some large rats, and walking along making ‘gigigi’ noises, which was probably their means of communication.
The group was less than ten metres form Add, but he didn’t move. He wanted to confirm if any more goblins were nearby. The 3 passed by his tree and as per plan, the mud and leaf paste covered Add’s scent. As soon as they advanced a few metres form him, and there were no signs of any more appearing, Add jumped into action.
He held the knife in a reverse grip and landed with a thud. The goblins were shocked by the sudden appearance of him, and paused for a moment, exactly what add had wanted. He closed the distance between him and the goblin nearest to him and slashed at its throat. His new body was not the same as his old one yet, the years of experience as a soldier had not been to waste. The goblin tried to dodge but it was too late. The KM777-C with its sharp edge cleanly sliced its throat up to the bone. Add had not put much force and only sliced, so it didn’t cut into the bone. Add easily pulled back the knife and kicked the goblin away. It rolled on the ground holding its neck as murky black blood oozed out.
By this time, the other two had snapped out of their confusion and seeing their dying companion their dull yellow eyes were full of hatred and rage. The larger goblin threw away the rats and charged with its spear towards Add, which he dodged easily by side stepping and kicked the other goblin that was trying to attack him using its club. His level two strength was enough to send it rolling.
The other goblin shrieked with rage and again tried to attack swinging its spear. Add ducked and held the shaft of the spear with one hand barely managing to keep it within his grasp. It seemed that the goblin was a tad stronger than him. But this didn’t hinder him. He launched a kick onto the knee of the goblin making it stumble, and its grip on the spear loosened. Taking advantage of it he thrust his knife and stabbed the goblins chest with force, but suddenly his instincts alerted him and he jumped to the side abandoning his knife, narrowly avoiding the club of the third goblin which had sneaked up behind him.
The large goblin was screaming as it tried to pull out the knife while the wound on its chest kept bleeding. It was done for. Add dashed towards the last goblin making it terrified, it tried to hit Add using the club but Add’s nimble movements made it impossible. He threw a punch into its solar plexus which broke thegoblin’s balance and its club dropped, giving Add the time to go behind it and chop at its neck which stunned it. Add didn’t give it any time and picking up the club he bashed the goblin’s head. He kept bashing for a number of times and finally stopped when the head was completely mangled.
Add vigilantly looked all around him looking for signs of any danger. The larger goblin had stopped screaming and had probably died, but add didn’t take any chances. He picket its spear and thrustit into the head of the goblin. It convulsed lightly and then became still. Add pulled out the knife and stabbed the other two goblins in the head confirming their deaths. All this took less than a minute. As Add was cleaning his knife on a leaf, system prompts began ringing in his head.

“Killing goblins gives good Exp. If I keep hunting them then gaining a few levels would notbe too hard.” Add thought.
Add looked in the direction the goblins were heading and decided to go deeper into the forest. He hid the corpses of the three goblins into the bushes and moved on for his next kill.
