The Military System - 7 Hunting Goblins Is Profitable
[Ding! You have received 185 Exp. and 70 CP!]
[Ding! You have levelled up to Level 4. Experience for Next level95/200]
A series of notifications rang out as Add relaxed himself. After killing the three goblins at first Add went a little deeper into the forest following the tracks. He looked for some time and came across this group of 7 goblins. Though he managed to kill them all, he was slightly injured, because the goblins were very agile and outnumbered him. Still his level 3 strength was enough to finish them off.
“I will need to fight with more goblins if I want to have an understanding of their movements and attacks. They are very different from humans in that aspect…”
Add wiped the blood which had splashed onto him and checked his gains. He allocated 2 stats to his vitality and kept the skill points for later.
“I should keep searching in this area and not go deeper, before I am strong enough, going too deep into enemy territory would be stupid.”
He searched for tracks and made sure he stayed on the outskirts of the forest. It was now nearing evening, and goblins became more active during this time. Add occasionally found one or two stray goblins and killed them immediately. He kept this one for a few hours and by the time night came, he had killed 22 goblins, fulfilling his quest requirements. He wanted to kill more goblins but decided to retreat, as staying after nightfall would be dangerous. He left the forest covered in mud, leaves and goblin blood, with a sack full of Goblin ears.
“Once you reach a higher level, killing lower level creatures gets really easy huh…”
After the initial 10, he had hunted 12 more. He earned another 520 Exp. and 120 CP, which increased his level to 5. With his level 5 strength, he could kill a regular goblin with a single punch at its throat.
Once he was out of the forest he opened his status. He added one stat point to Agility and one to endurance and then upgraded [Knife Mastery] to level 5. From thereon, to level up the skill it would take 2 Skill points instead of 1. He then upgraded [Body Strengthening] to Level 4.

Add observed that the experience needed for levelling up had increased by a lot once he stepped into level 5.
“System why did the required experience suddenly increase like this ?”
[Host, you should know that the Military System, is in fact the most wondrous and, mystical object in existence! Its Host, that is you, has a huge advantage over all other creatures! While they have to train all their lives to get stronger, you can do so by simply levelling up! What few would be able to reach in their life times, you can reach that in months! So to balance this disparity, by the Law of ‘Equivalent Exchange’, the System increases the required experience exponentially with each level. This also prevents the Host from becoming a Lazy slob who can become the strongest without giving any effort!]
Add was speechless at the System’s rant as well as its usual boasting. However what it said made sense. For example taking the Knife Mastery skill, a veteran soldier would have to train for years, perhaps decades to reach its perfection, yet Add could bypass that time using Skill Points and the system. This was a huge benefit, and if normal people knew of this, then they would surely puke blood. Could mastering skills be this easy!?
Add made a note in his mind to never let anyone know of his system. He knew the greed of people and in the face of sufficient benefits even the most intimate relations were worth less than trash.
He walked into the town showing his Guild card to the city guards, who raised their brows at his appearance. But Add couldn’t help it, he had had no chance to clean himself of the mud and filth. He went to the Adventurer’s guild and many Adventurers laughed watching his appearance, which he ignored.
He went to the receptionist, but had to line up because the counter was packed. After sometime his turn finally came. The usual lady greeted him and looking at his appearance she was shocked.
“Well what happened to you boy ? Are you alright ?”
” I am fine, just some downsides of the job. Anyway I have completed the quest.” He placed the sack onto the counter, “please verify it.”
“Oh! You finished it already ?” The receptionist was a bit surprised. Killing 20 goblins was not a big deal, but when that is done by such a young and weak looking boy, and that too within a day, that is quite surprising.
“Ah.. I got lucky…” Add vaguely answered. He could not say, “Of course it is a given ! I have an Almighty System after all !” could he ?
The receptionist didn’t give much thought, and passed the sack to a worker. Soon the ears were counted and she brought the quest rewards.
“So Add, you have killed a total of 22 goblins. As per the quest for the first 20 goblins you get 20 coppers each and for the other 2 you get 10 coppers each. So you total is 420 coppers, which is 4 silver and 20 copper coins.”
Considering that a humble family of three could pass a month on 10-12 silvers with some wealth to spare, earning 4 silver coins a day was surely better in terms of income.
“Killing Goblins is sure profitable, I should hunt more of them if there are more quests.” Add thought.
However, the risk accompanying the money was also a lot. Add knew that since he could grow strong quickly with the help of The Military System, he managed to complete the quest fairly easily with light injuries. However for the normal rookie adventurersbeing surrounded by 10-15 goblins would surely be dire straits.
“Oh, since you went to that, area did you notice anything amiss in the forest ?” the receptionist asked him.
“Something amiss?…. Well if I had to say, there were a lot of goblins on the outskirts of the forest. I didn’t go too deep but was able to kill all these.”
The receptionist frowned hearing this ” I see….then the reports of increasing goblin activities must be right, I will have to report this to the higher ups…thanks for the information.”
Add waved his hand lightly and asked the lady if she could refer him to an affordable inn.
“If you are looking for a good and cheap place to stay, you can go to the ‘Coach n Caravans’ inn. Although the boss is a bit rude, the rent is cheap and the rooms are quite comfortable, for the price. You should go left after leaving the guild and a few streets later you should see the inn by the main road.”
Add thanked her and left looking for the inn. On the way he brought two sets of clothes including shirt, trousers and underpants which cost him two silver.Following her directions he soon reached there. The inn was a two storey building that looked old, but was well maintained.
Add entered and saw a bald muscular old man sitting by the reception. He was wearing a coarse shirt and smoking what looked like a tobacco pipe. His eyes were closed as he was taking deep puffs. Though the man had aged, his tanned skin which was covered in scars, a deep scar also graced his right cheek, and his disposition, gave Add the vibe of a seasoned warrior.
“Looks like this guy is not just an ordinary inn keeper” he silently noted.
“I would like to rent room please”
The old man opened an eye looking at the boy before him for a few moments and then closed it again.
“Twenty coppers per day. Payment upfront!” he replied in a deep grumpy voice.
Add put forward a silver coin “Make my stay for five days.”
“Your name ?” the man asked
“Add”
The old man grumbled and wrote down some details in a register and then gave him a key.
“Room 4. Its on the first floor. The second room from the left of the stairs. Meals are not included. And the toilet is on the ground floor at the back.”
“Is there a bathroom ?”
The old man gazed at Add some more and then again leaned back into his chair.
“There is a well behind the building. Help yourself.”
Add left the old man and cleaned himself at the well, the cold water helped reduce the tiredness of the day. He then cleaned his dirty clothes and wore the ones he had bought. He then went up to his room and was a bit impressed. The room was about 4 metres by four metres with a single bed a small cabinet and a table and chair. It had a single window with wooden shutters. Add checked the bed and it had a soft mattress of cotton like material and a bedsheet.
“The receptionist lady said correct. This place is pretty neat for the price.”
Add went out to have some dinner and then returned and fell asleep. The next morning with daybreak he automatically woke up. A habit from his days as a soldier. Today he decided to go to the city library. He had seen it before while searching for the guild.
“Today I should gather some information about this world.” He thought, but as soon as he stepped into the library…
[Ding! New quest initiated!]
[Ding! Quest : Gather Information
You have basically no information about the world you are in! Even a five year old kid has more information than you! You are worse than a country bumpkin now!
Collect more information about the world and its workings.

Add’s face darkened at these remarks, and for a moment he considered whether he should just throw away this system which seemed to love throwing insults at him. Still knowing it was futile he shook his head and went into the library.
