The Mystic Healer - Chapter 20
Luckily for Lance, in between training during his days back in Granite Township, he would try to study quite a bit at night. So learning about the new world about becoming a mystic and traveling that path as an expert did not quite overwhelm him too much.
As he exited the class, Lance was approached by several students who wanted to grab some lunch at the cafeteria with him. This was still something he felt that he would need to get used to, however, Lance still agreed and felt rather close to another younger woman.
While the lecture was going on, Lance would lock eyes with this younger woman named Norah, and both would end up smiling throughout. The two were still rather young, so pursuing her as a love interest was not on his mind, but he welcomed the thought of spending more time with her as a friend.
Sitting down at a table with a small group of students, Lance found out from them that he was actually currently the only student who had the light elemental affinity besides the teacher who was in charge of teaching that particular class. This would normally surprise him, but in retrospect, the light element was more rare and anyone who had any form of offensive capabilities would be brought in by the Church of Light almost immediately.
Still, Lance learned that in order for a mystic to teach even at Griffin Academy and to be in charge of a specific elemental class, said teacher would have needed to reach the 4th rank as a mystic. So, in Lance’s eyes, this showed that his teacher may be like himself, and that just because he lacked any offensive capabilities with his element, he could still pursue a higher rank as a mystic.
A lot of the pressure which Lance felt, slowly started to disappear as he finished up his food and made some plans with Norah and several other students who he felt closer to now. Leaving the cafeteria, he only had one thing on his mind; how domineering this new teacher of his would be.
Since he was the only student of the light elemental affinity, this meant that Lance would more than likely be given even more hands on training with this new teacher of his. Normally this would make anyone feel uneasy, but to Lance, this was the absolutely best outcome he could have hoped for.
Without wasting any time, Lance quickly dashed towards the building where his next class would be located as a large smile was showing. His speed shocked the nearby students, since none of them were trying to become dual masters, and therefore wouldn’t have such physical speed themselves.
Not even breaking a sweat, Lance finally entered the assigned room before sitting down at the only desk in the room besides the teacher’s desk and board. Eager to begin right when his new teacher would arrive, Lance was almost visibly shaking as minute by minute went by.
After quite a bit of time passed, the door to the room finally opened once more as a female teacher with unkempt hair and a wrinkled robe slowly walked in. Out of respect, Lance stood up firmly and cupped his hands before greeting this figure.
“Hmph.” the teacher responded before sitting down at her desk while removing a comb from her pocket to brush her hair to look a little more presentable. “You know, for many years now I was able to sleep in as long as I wanted, and here we are because you just so happen to fit the mold which the dean and the other teachers were waiting for.”
Hearing this reaction caused Lance’s smile to slowly fade away as he continued to listen to this teacher. Deep down he felt offended, but he refused to show this displeasure towards the individual who would be assisting him to become stronger as a mystic over the next several years.
“Interesting, I stepped on your pride and yet you are able to remain standing tall without faltering. This is a good first lesson for you, as a mystic with no offensive capabilities, many others will try to walk all over you if you give them the chance. The only way to prove these experts wrong, is to continue increasing your strength.”
“Now, onto today’s lesson. I will teach you about the history of mystics who were of the light elemental affinity. You might already know this, but before medical pill recipes were created to heal the average expert, us light element mystics were in extremely high demand. We would be treated as a noble would be, and we commanded respect all across the world.”
“However, this all changed once alchemists began to increase their medical pill production which lowered the average salary a light elemental mystic would take in. Slowly but surely, even the military changed their normal tactics to no longer include too many mystics of the light element because we lacked proper offensive capabilities, and giving soldiers some pills would be cheaper and save a spot in a squad.”
“Still, mystics like us who have no offensive capabilities, could still serve organizations or even within the military as long as we take a big enough pay cut, to where it is more cost effective to use us. Others like us, have tried their hardest to become dual masters which would actually make them more valuable, but not many have succeeded.”
“Hearing all of this, are you still willing to become my student?” the teacher asked Lance without changing her facial features in the slightest. He could tell that she might have been expecting him to give up knowing how tough of a road was ahead. But, little did this teacher know, Lance up until now always knew that this path wouldn’t be an easy one.
“I, Lance of the light elemental affinity, would be honored to learn from you, teacher.” cupping his hands with a look of contentment on his face, Lance felt that this would help show that he was serious enough to continue forward. Wuxiaworld for visiting.
“Then let’s begin.” was the only thing that the teacher said before raising her hand, as a small and barely noticeable grin on her face appeared.
