The Mystic Healer - Chapter 30
“Before we send you off, there is one last thing I must mention to you all. During this first preliminary round, some of you may in fact run into 2nd grade demonic beasts. There are only six of them present across the entire island, but once they smell your presence close by, you will be forced to fight them in order to just live.”
“However, with high risk, does come with a high reward. Those who are able to slay even just one of these demonic beasts within this month, will not only be guaranteed to move forward into the tournament, but said experts, will be rewarded either a high quality item or technique given by our Sun Dynasty military.”
“Usually, such items and techniques are to never be given out to the public, but the royal family back in the capital, wants those of you with bright futures to indeed fly through the heavens and dominate not just this region but make a name for yourselves across the world. So, whether you kill a high grade demonic beast, or simply make it to the center within the month, you will be considered to have passed!” the military officer announced as the spectators all clapped while others simply couldn’t believe this.
It was unusual for the royal family to offer such extravagant gifts in a tournament like this, and this would only happen if the Sun Dynasty was about to enter into a long lasting war with another empire, or there were other dangers they were preparing for in the near future. With this information given to them, many experts within the VIP area decided to quickly send messengers with this update back to their organizations.
As the crowd began to finally quiet back down, the military officer withdrew an ancient cube type item from his storage ring and used his strength to make it float up above all of the contestants. The atmosphere was indeed very heavy concerning the contestants, because unless an expert unleashed a life threatening forbidden technique, it would be nearly impossible to even defeat a demonic beast of the 2nd grade if they were below the 4th rank as either a mystic or a warrior.
Over the course of countless years battling demonic beasts whether in their own borders or in different areas around the world, humans were always finding it difficult just to contain the expansion of the demonic beasts. The big reason was because although it took much longer for demonic beasts to grow their strength, once they were able to, it would take a high ranked human to kill it, and demonic beasts also had a much longer lifespan.
As the cube began to increase in size over the course of every passing moment, it started to release a strange noise before small specks of light dropped light snow from it. One contestant lifted up his arm to grab this strange speck of light and was instantly transported within the cube. Following his lead, each contestant tried to grab a speck of light so that they wouldn’t be left behind by the other competitors.
Lance seeing this, chose to allow the speck of light to make it towards him as it seemed fit, because this test would be lasting for an entire month, so although every second counted, on the broad scale of things, he wasn’t necessarily in a rush either. If he wanted to at least stand a chance in the second preliminary round, he would either be forced to join with a group to kill a 2nd grade demonic beast, or kill a 1st grade demonic beast by himself and hope that its elemental core has enough mana to push him through into the 2nd rank as a mystic. Either way, Lance was excited to finally be placed in a position where he could also test out his combat abilities in a true life or death situation which would end up lasting an entire month if he chose to delay heading directly towards the center of the so called island area within the cube. As the speck of light finally touched him, Lance felt his body shake uncontrollably before he found himself standing on the outskirts of an actual island.
With sand under his feet, and a large expansion of water behind him, Lance at first almost felt as if this was some cruel joke and he wasn’t actually sent to a survival test area, but a vacation spot that only rich nobles could afford.
However, as he was thinking about this, many loud roars and screams could be heard within the forest area in front of him. This sent a cold shiver down his spine, but he quickly shook his head and withdrew his sword from his storage ring. Since he was well rested, Lance had the maximum amount of battle qi and mana within his body, so without feeling the need to delay, Lance decided to head into the forest in a calm manner, making sure to use the huge trees in the surrounding to help shield himself from any hidden foes.
