The Nine Lords Of Order - Chapter 22

The Lynx leader hesitated for a bit before it decided to listen to Mars. In areas of where the concentration of worldly energy was higher you could even find golems and elementals which were extremely powerful and tough to deal with. Usually he wouldn’t dare to go deeper into the valley. But since Mars had the ability to suppress Lightning type creatures he had the confidence to deal with even rank 5 beings.

Mars had long since noticed that once he summoned his own path gem, other lightning creatures would be suppressed. He guessed this was the reason why the Lynxes decided to surrender. ‘No wonder, these cats have a very good eye to notice how amazing I am. However it’s a pity I can’t increase my power level yet’

In the past month Mars’ power level had not increased at all. In the process of a breakthrough the old path gem shatters and reforms into a new one. However the new path gem needs time to stabilize. The higher the rank, the longer this stabilization process takes. Now that Mars was rank 3, he had to wait for another five months before trying to increase his power level once more. Ena stabilization process would be a lot faster since she is weaker and she would be able to begin training in one more month.

Not being able to increase his power level, Mars had no choice other than to increase the strength of his physical body. He also shared his body strengthening technique with Ena. Now that she had the lightning attribute, she could use some of his techniques as well. Although most of his arts had a very high star path requirement, he guessed that they would still be useful to Ena to create her own arts. The whole reason Mars could fight opponents with higher power level was due to his martial arts and techniques. Ena’s battle power was sure to increase dramatically if she created new techniques based on those arts.

As they travelled they would occasionally find natural treasures, however they did not take them. Not because they did not want to, but because they couldn’t carry more. They also found many more demon beasts, however as soon as they saw the litter of Lynxes they would rapidly run away.

Soon, another month went by. They were approaching more dangerous areas and fiercer and stronger lightning were starting to appear. Demon beasts were also getting stronger. Some groups even dared to fight against the group of Lynxes. However with Mars here all these groups were suppressed and slaughtered with ease.

Unfortunately, the situation got worse and worse. After another few weeks of travel, some groups of demon beasts were so strong that even with Mars’ suppression they were still able to put up a fierce fight. At some point Mars’ decided to start traveling without the group of lynxes since they could attract less attention this way. Only the Lynx leader remained with him and carefully scouted areas ahead to make sure Mars could advance safely.

‘This cat probably noticed that I was capable of influencing Ena’s path with my own power. If I’m not mistaken, he wants something similar in return for all the help it has provided. Unfortunately I don’t have that ability yet.’ Mars was no fool. He had been wondering why this Lynx was being so friendly and helpful. Since it was only interested in him, it surely desired something from him.

However even if Mars wanted to help it he couldn’t. At least not until he became much stronger.

Rumble!

At some point Mars managed to see arcs of red lightning streaking across the horizon. His eyes immediately lit up, “Ena, see those red lightning over there? Those are our objective! Red lightning possess a much higher energy density. I possess a seven star path, however my lightning is just blue. This is not because my lightning is weaker, its just because it’s not concentrated enough.”

“When I heard about the Lightning Valley, I was happy for several reasons. First, I wanted to change the nature of your path gem, and for that I needed enormous amounts of lightning attribute energy. Second, this place is the perfect training ground for us lightning users. Third, those red lightning.”

Ena was startled when Mars pointed at those red lightning which seemed to be a lot more powerful than regular lightning. However she sweetly smiled when she heard that Mars had been thinking about helping her since the beginning. However she was still curious about why they had travelled all the way to this dangerous place, “But why do you need red lightning?”

Mars smiled mysteriously and took Ena into his arms. He then passed an art to Ena and told her to memorize it.

“It’s a bit hard to explain. I guess you will understand once you execute this art. However we need red lightning for this technique to work” Mars said.

Ena was curious so she proceeded to circulate her energy according to Mars technique. However she felt her energy just circulated around uselessly.

“I still don’t understand Maaars!” Pouting she glared at Mars.

“For this technique to work you need to circulate energy which posses and higher density. That’s why we need red lightning. The technique will allow us to create something similar to a second power source.” Mars said.

“Power source? You mean like a second path gem?” Ena was confused by what she heard.

“Not exactly. The objective of this technique is to concentrate huge amounts of energy in our wrists and then crystallize it. In a sense, it’s like creating a second path gem but without a nucleus. Usually, our nucleus possess the job of cystalizing our energy to form the path gem. However in order to artificially concentrate our energy to the point it crystallizes without the help of our nucleus, we need to fill our bodies with energy which posses a higher density than our own. This way the higher density energy will push our lower density energy and forcefully condense it. Through this process we can create a second power source.” Mars calmly explained.

“So with this technique we can have more energy to use?” Ena did not know how Mars came to create so many powerful and ingenious techniques, each of them was more amazing than the last.

“Yes, and no. Because this second ‘path gem’ does not possess a nucleus, we have less control over the energy inside it. This means once we decide to use the energy within this second power source, it will immediately cause an overflow within our bodies.” Mars explained.

Ena just looked at him quietly and waited for him to continue.

Mars took a deep breath with shining eyes and said, “Basically, the overflow of energy will swiftly increase our power level for a short period of time.”

“In increase our power level for a short period of time? But wouldn’t this be a huge burden to our bodies?” Ena was surprised by such magical ability.

“Well, yes. However our bodies will only be burdened for a short period of time. Even though it will harm us, it will momentarily provide us with a huge boost in strength. This is also a technique to be used in situations where you are facing far stronger opponents.” Mars smiled, “The name for this technique is ‘Overcharge’! It will be our most powerful trump card from now on.”

Mars took a look at the red lightning in the distance excitedly. He was very happy for finding this opportunity so fast. Although the process was risky, it was totally worth it. Furthermore if he tried to create his second power source when he was stronger, it would be even more troublesome to find lightning with a higher density. Mars guessed that his own lightning would turn red once he reached rank 4. At that point, using the red lightning to form his second power source would be useless. He would be forced to find the even fiercer black lightning. The weaker he was while forming his second power source, the easier it would be. Once his second power source was created, it would slowly be upgraded as his own strength increased.

“Let’s go! We need to be more cautious from now on. It would suck if we find a strong demon beast.

“Um!” Ena immediately agreed and went along with him.

The Lynx which was staying with them was getting more and more nervous. They were reaching areas it had never adventured before. Once he heard that they were heading towards those red lightning in the distance it hesitated. ‘Should I keep guiding them?’

Purr!

In the end it made out it’s mind and decided to risk it. ‘Fudge! I have worked so hard until now. If I were to leave now wouldn’t all my previous efforts be rendered useless?’

In the end it ran after Mars and Ena.

After advancing for a few days without encountering any beast they were just a few kilometers from the red lightning area. However it seemed as if luck would not always be with them.

Boom!

A red streak of lightning suddenly appeared before them. However once they took a clear look, they could tell this was not an actual lighting strike.
