The Nine Lords Of Order - Chapter 26
Several days later Mars and Ena were already heading back. Both of them had their right arm completely covered in black bandages. After they finished practising the secret art, they quickly discovered a slight shortcoming of this particular technique. Apparently because the energy within ‘overcharge’ gem was too unstable, it would slowly leak out. Recharging the ‘overcharge’ gem was possible, but it was a very troublesome and lengthy process.
When Mars and Ena left the kingdom they were given many items that could be used to patch themselves up. One of these items was a black bandage that could prevent the energy leaking. Some wounds might lead to energy leaking from an expert’s body, and these black bandages had the purpose of preventing further energy leaking from the wounds. Ena thought of using these and they worked! So now they both had bandages all over their right arms.
The bandage also helped hiding the overcharge gem. Other people might think they had an offensive stance as soon as they saw their gem. After all, people only summoned their gems in combat.
People might think that they were looking for a fight when they were just chilling around. That wouldn’t be good.
In the end, they had to hide the overcharge gem in one way or another. So the bandage did come in handy.
Persian had already recovered his strength and was quietly waiting within the cave. Ever since Mars left him here, he had been very nervous. ‘Will he die out there? Outside is very dangerous, a few days ago I was there to protect him. If he finds a strong opponent… there is no way he will survive and even if he survives, will he come back? This place is very remote, he could lose his way as well…’
The next day he heard a few sounds outside the cave, at he raised his guard. Without Mars’ superession he wouldn’t be a match for other creatures within this area. Luckily he got worried for nothing. Mars who had been gone for more than a week reunited with him.
‘This human is rather trust worthy’ Persian thought. Soon after they quickly headed back in the direction they came from.
While Mars and company were heading back, another group of people were searching for treasures within the area. They had over a hundred members, one of them which was actually a lightning user! The overall strength from this group was much higher than battle crest. Not only did they possess three times as many rank 4 experts within their faction, they also possessed countless rank 3 experts.
“I suggest searching for a resting place soon. I’m getting tired and can’t keep reflecting all the lightning strikes. At best I can provide support for a one more hour.” A man clad in luxurious blue clothes spoke to an old man. His name was Gabil and he was the lightning user who was recruited by this group. He had been offered a very generous reward for working with this group, so he didn’t hesitate much before deciding to accept.
The old man who was leading this expedition frowned. They were having a lot of trouble finding anything worthwhile, so he was not very happy about stopping their search for treasures. However he acknowledge the fact that resting was important.
Truth was that Mars and the battlecrest faction had looted most treasures within this area. Any other group who came here would just be wasting their time.
Just as he was going to agree with the Gabil’s suggestion, the old man saw two youths and a lynx casually walking around the valley. Just when he was about to order his subordinates to kill and rob these kids, he saw a lightning strike heading straight for these youths. A girl with blonde hair raised both hands and zap! zap! zap! The lightning strike was swiftly absorbed by her then the two youths and the lynx continued walking casually.
“A lightning user! Gabil, how come you can’t absorb the lightning strikes like that little girl over there?” The old man spoke with a frown on his face.
“This absorbing lightning like that is very harmful for the body, she looks young, so she might be ignorant about the consequences…” Gabil was startled by what the little girl was doing.
Right after he finished saying his words more lightning befell on the girl, however she abosoved all of them and even looked casual about it
“Ignorant my ass! fool! She obviously is more capable than you!” The old man snorted before giving orders. “Go over to them and offer the girl a contract, if she doesn’t agree, capture the white haired kid! We can threaten her so she can think with greater clarity about her options.”
Mars and company had long since seen the group in the distance. However they had seen many other groups along their way, so they ignored them and kept going on their way. Usually everyone would try to avoid battling in this place. It was already dangerous enough and they couldn’t waste energy foolishly. Everyone here possessed considerable strength and could defend themselves, unless there was a valuable treasure worth fighting for, human beings would not fight each other in this place. However there were some exceptions, and that expeception were groups which possessed lightning users. They usually had energy to spare, so they wouldn’t mind hunting down groups who were fatigued.
Soon several tens of figures surrounded Mars and company but did not attack. A rank 4 expert quickly approached them.
Completing ignoring Mars, the expert spoke to Ena,”Miss, we noticed you could wield lightning from afar. My boss is interested in you so we are giving you a contract. We will offer a good compensation for your services.” This expert said everything in an arrogant tone. This guy didn’t seem to be negotiating.
If Mars had to describe it, this asshole was telling his girlfriend to just accept this contract. Not to mention he was ignored he was pissed! He usually had little self control, so he didn’t mind teaching this guy a lesson. However he felt it was below himself to attack first so he ordered Persian to do it.
“Persian! We are not interested in his offer, send this guy off!” Pointing his finger at the guy, Mars ordered with a more arrogant tone than the man just used.
Persian rolled his eyes and casually stroke with his paw.
Streak!
A sudden lightning bolt appeared in front the expert’s and immediately pierced through his chest and charred his body black. The man couldn’t even yell ‘what’ before being instantly killed. The rank 4 expert only possesed a power level slightly above 2000, he stood no chance against Persian’s sudden attack.
Mars was shocked by the sudden development. He only wanted for this arrogant guy to be sent away flying, he was not planning on killing him
“Ah… Persian, I did not say ‘kill him’ alright? Why the hell did you kill him!” Mars yelled.
‘Um?’ Persian just looked at Mars with confusion. ‘If you ordered me to attack him that means he is an enemy. If he is an enemy, he should be killed. Why are you mad at me?’
The old man who was standing a hundred of meters away from Mars was also shocked by the sudden death of his subordinate. Immediately his eyes turned red in fury and violent red flames were summoned from his body.
“Kill them! Everyone! Go ahead and kill them!”
Mars saw almost a hundred experts suddenly unleashing their auras and immediately broke into a cold sweat. “Many of those auras are from rank 4 experts there is actually so many of them!”
Mars grabbed Ena, and climbed on top of Persian’s back. “RUN!”
Persian also noticed the severity of the situation. Although guessing the strength of demon beasts was easy, humans could easily hide theirs. He thought this group was just a bunch of nobodies, but they were actually so strong!
Transforming into a streak of lightning Persian quickly pierced through the encirclement and ran away.
Several figures quickly pursued however they were no match for the speed of a lightning lynx. Not to mention Persian who had a high battle power of over 9000.
After several minutes group of experts lost sight of Mars and company. No matter how hard they searched, they couldn’t find any traces. The old man was completely furious. He was leader of one of the top factions within the city. For someone to defy him so blatantly and then get away with it he was pissed!
Unfortunately he was in the Lightning Valley. He couldn’t just tell his subordinates to separate and search for their enemies. That would just lead to more deaths. The Lightning Valley was a dark and dangerous place covered by clouds all day long and it was only illuminated by lightning strikes. Searching someone in this place was extremely difficult!
Gritting his teeth the old yelled in anger, “I swear I will look for you punks! Don’t you ever dare to take a step into Ascension City!”
Meanwhile Mars and company had already escaped far away. Mars had a frown on his face. He had the premonition those people would seek trouble with him in the future. He also felt a bit in the wrong this time. However he also assumed those guys would not be as friendly as Eanred was. If they dared to refuse the contract, they might have broken into hostilities either way.
“Ena, we’ll use our masks before we enter the city.” After some thought Mars said.
“Alright. Our disguises are very good. Those guys shouldn’t be able to find us again.” Ena responded.
“Persian! Listen buddy, you have no idea how much trouble you caused.” Mars frowned and swung his arm.
Pa!
Persian suddenly felt a fierce slap on his head. After grunting for a bit it gave a Mars a glare and continued running forward.
“We are approaching your home Persian, I know you want something in exchange for all the help you have given us And truth is that I really want to reward you somehow. However I can’t do it right now.”
Persian slowed down and turned to look at Ena and then back at Mars. It appeared to be saying ‘You helped her! I saw it!’
“That was an special case. I could only change her path then because she had not reached rank 2 yet and I was breaking through a higher rank. However helping you is not quite the same, is it?”
Persian gave Mars a deep look and then continued running forward silently. Who knew what it was thinking.
Mars felt quite guilty about it, so he kept talking, “Although I can’t help you with the upgrading of your star rank or bloodline I know I will be able to do it in the future…. However I must become stronger first So how about you coming along with me?”
Persian slowly stopped running. For quite a while he did not move at all. He seemed to be thinking about Mars’ suggestion. ‘Should I go? I’ve always lived here Should I leave?’
After a few minutes passed, Persian looked back at Mars and nodded his head.
