The Nine Lords Of Order - Chapter 41
With a thoughtful expression, Eanred was playing with a medallion on his hands while he waited for the food to be ready near the bonfire. This medallion was white in color and had a white dove engraved on the top.
Since Ena was cooking Mars did not have much to do. Noticing that Eanred was holding a medallion on his hands he remembered about his own medallion.
“Is that medallion special?” Mars asked.
Eanred who previously had a thoughtful expression raised his head and smiled, “Yes, it is very special.” His expression fluctuated a few times before he continued speaking. “I’m actually married you know. I gave her a medallion and she gave one to me as well. Before coming to Ascension city I used to travel the continent along my wife. We liked to explore new places and see the wonders of the world with our own eyes. But one day we encountered an accident and we were suddenly separated. I searched for her for a few years but I couldn’t found her. There were times I even thought she was dead It was only three years ago that I got news saying that my wife had actually arrived to ascension city and had quickly entered one of the palaces. Haha! We had found a precious treasure several years ago so I guess she managed to exchange it for merit points and quickly ascended through that method. I know her very well. She probably entered the palaces in order to obtain more resources to search for me. But now I have enough merit points to ascend as well. Soon we will be reunited” As he was speaking his smile got wider.
“Sorry” Listening to Eanred’s story Mars couldn’t help but feel a bit guilty. It was because he was worried about him that Eanred had delayed his ascension towards the islands.
“Don’t worry. Since I waited for so long, it’s nothing much to wait a little bit more.”
“What’s her name?” Ena who was nearby also heard Eanred’s story and couldn’t help but get interested. She was a girl so she would obviously be interested in love stories.
“Clair Her name is Clair.” Mars opened his medallion and there was a small portrait from a brown haired girl inside.
“She is very beautiful!” Ena who had already gotten close exclaimed once she saw the portrait from the girl.
“I’m sure you will meet her again soon my brother. I also promise that I will find someone who can get your eyes fixed.” Mars said with a serious expression. He did not want for his friend to meet his girl without being able to see her.
“Um!” Eanred mood improved and smiled.
“You know, I also have a medallion. I never met my parents or any family. I was just found one day and the only thing that was with me was a silver medallion which had my name on it. That medallion is probably the only thing in this world which is related to who I really am and from where I come from. Although the medallion is nothing special, it still is my most precious possession.”
“Oh I always thought you were mysterious. You are probably the most talented person I know and you also had the look of the son from an important and powerful family.” Eanred extended his hand towards Mars and said, “Can I check it out?”
Although he couldn’t see, he could still feel it with his hands. He had travelled to many places when he was young and he was very knowledgeable. Maybe he could recognize the engravings in Mars’ medallion and tell him about his origins.
“Well… I gave the medallion away.” Mars responded.
“It was your most precious possession and you gave it away?” Eanred was startled by Mars statement.
“I will get it back though. A girl is holding it for me” Mars quickly said.
“A girl?” Eanred frowned “What about Ena?”
“I gave it to her sister, we separated and she is holding it for me. She was sad, so I gave it to her…” Mars realised that he was destroying his image so tried to fix it but only made things worse.
“You are dating her sister?” Eanred knew it was common for some men to marry many women, however since he had always seen Mars with Ena he thought Mars was like him, loving a single woman.
Ena who was at the side did not mind though. She already knew Mars was planning to marry both of them. Although she wouldn’t be fine if it was someone else, she was fine if her sister married Mars as the second wife. Even so, she still glared at Mars. Apparently it was some sort of warning.
“Cough, well let’s eat alright? The food smells great!” With a smile on his face Mars swiftly changed the topic.
After a few days of rest Mars had already recovered his full strength. Although his injury on his abdomen was still there and it was slightly painful to move around, the injury itself would not hinder Mars if he had to fight.
Persian had surprisingly taken a complete day to wake up. Unfortunately there was no way for Mars to know what had happened to him. Demon beasts’ intelligence would develop as they increased in rank. After they achieved rank 4 their intelligence would be similar to a human child and at rank 6 to a human adult. However it was only when a demon beast achieved rank 7 that it would be able to communicate through telepathy.
Mars could only guess that there was something unique about Persian but he didn’t know if this would be something good or bad. So far Persian’s uniqueness had almost gotten all of them killed so he did not hold much hopes for him.
Rumble!
A grey carpet covered the skies and there was the usual thunder which seemed to snap the air. Soon the pitter patter of rain came like a wave. It not always rained within the valley, but when it did, it was always carried a freezing cold air along with it.
Having decided that today was going to be good day to leave the valley, Mars did not think rain would suddenly come and his mood became as bad as the weather.
“Should we wait for the rain to stop?” He asked with a frown on his face.
“No, let’s go now. The rain will make it harder for creatures to spot us outside. The stampede just passed through this area a few days ago. We might encounter a few high ranked demon beasts on our way.” Eanred looked at the clouds outside and said sternly.
Mars thought for a second before silently nodding his head. What worried him the most was finding a rank 5 creature. Eanred was right, who knew about the current whereabouts of all the demons beasts within that stampede.
In the past couple of days, every time Mars looked at the dark clouds above, he could feel his heart shudder. The blue scaled claw from a few days ago had been imprinted within his mind and he still felt fear towards the creature behind that claw. He bowed his head and looked worried about the road ahead.
Before coming to the valley, Mars would maintain an ever confident smile on his face and would face new challenges with a burning heart. However the previous encounter had changed him a bit. He felt so many things had gone wrong because of him. He felt like an ant before all those creatures.
Clenching his fist he tried gather his courage and after a deep breath his face regained his usual calmness, “Alright! We are heading out!”
Mars dashed ahead and lead the way. Ena and Persian closely followed behind. Persian was acting as Eanred’s mount since it was the most way for him to travel due to his lack of vision.
Since they were a few hundred kilometers deep into the valley, it would take them more than a week to get out from the valley. The dangers within the valley were not the same as the ones before so they also had to travel carefully.
Soon after they left the cave, a snake creeped out from a nearby crevice. A strange light flickered within its eyes. If Mars was here he would able to recognize this snake as the one he had fought several days ago in the fissure. However it’s body was not split in half and its aura was several times stronger than before!
After hissing it quickly followed behind Mars and his group. A few seconds later several tens of snakes followed behind as well…
As they travelled, Mars also took the chance to strengthen himself as much as possible by absorbing thunderbolts. After a week his power level had already gone past 1500.
The rain had not stopped since they left the cave which helped them in covering their trails. They had been very careful as they made their way through the valley. Every time they heard the roar from a demon beast they would be very careful to not draw its attention. Even if the demon beast was actually a weak one, they did not actually want draw any attention to them.
