- 354 You Won't Deny My Desire, Will You?
“Mmm, Simon, this is amazing! You cook better than many Michelin chefs!” Elena put another portion of the French meat in her mouth, “When we save the world from the Apocalypse, you will teach me how to cook!”
“From your mouth to God’s ears,” Simon smiled and looked at Marcus. Taubert was thoughtfully poking around in the plate, showing a clear lack of appetite.
“Dad, you will be my main taster. With health like yours, I don’t have to worry about your stomach problems if I ruin something. Do you agree?”
Marcus looked at his daughter in surprise. He thought a lot about what to do before the final day, but never thought about what would happen after. It simply did not occur to him, since he had long ago decided that the coming day of changes would be his last.
“Why are you so surprised? Even in the cave, I told you that I would not allow you to do what you want,” Elena poked a leaf of lettuce with a fork and sent the herbs into her mouth with such a relaxed look, as if they were talking about some trivial things, and not about the fact that can cost the lives of several billion people.
“If you have obtained a kukri, it does not mean that you will be able to accomplish your plans. It doesn’t work that way.”
“What do you mean?” Taubert frowned his brows. When they were in the dungeon, Elena only had a glimpse to see his thoughts, but he underestimated his daughter’s abilities.
“You’re right, a kukri dagger can kill an immortal. But only another immortal can do this. And the cost for this is the lives of both. So, do you have any options on how to solve this problem, Marcus Alfred Taubert?” The daughter’s gaze suddenly became so deep and piercing that it seemed to Marcus that Elena was looking not into his eyes, but into his very soul. “What price are you willing to pay for your desire, human?”
Every nerve in the man’s body was taut and tense, like a metal wire through which an electric current was sent. Marcus saw his daughter’s blue eyes, within which sparkles shone like stars.
“Apart from my life, I have nothing to offer,” he replied, and his own voice seemed strange to him, as the answer came out hoarse and barely audible.
“I heard you,” Elena smiled with the corners of her lips and looked away. Marcus felt the air return to the room, the absence of which he noticed only now.
“Anyone want a refill? Why did you both fall silent?” Simon asked. Both father and daughter behaved strangely. Suddenly they fell silent, staring at each other, and then returned to eating food. “Boss, how are you? You look pale.”
Marcus shook his head and said nothing. He tried to understand what had just happened.
The man cast a sidelong glance at his daughter, but Elena continued stuffing herself with the delicious meal while humming something to herself.
“Dad!”
“You said I was unconscious for several days. What date is it today?”
“24.”
“24?!” Elena jumped up and started walking from side to side, “Ahh, I missed the sale!!!”
“W-what sale?” Marcus asked in complete confusion. In ten minutes, their conversation from the topic of saving the world from the Apocalypse in some incomprehensible way came to a Christmas sale. Moreover, the missed sale.
“Sean! Sean wanted that super fancy robot! They were selling it for one day on pre-order only!!! Ahh, damn it! David does not know the login from my account on which I left a request! God, how can we look your grandson in the eyes, dad?! What are you going to tell Sean if he doesn’t get his present from Santa for Christmas?!”
“Huh?!”
It’s been a long time since Marcus Taubert felt so confused. Only one person in his life was capable of making him feel like this. And now Elena reminded the man that not only his blood flowed in her veins.
“Pfft,” Simon grunted, covering his mouth with his fist. Before that, only Amelia could make Marcus look like that.
“Simon, bring your laptop urgently! I need to check my order! Dad!” Elena turned to Marcus, who was sitting with a frozen fork over a plate, “Dad, nothing works now, and we haven’t bought a single gift! What have you been doing all week?!”
Marcus opened his mouth to answer, but his words seemed irrelevant to the man. What did he do? The same things as before – he subordinated the political and economic world under the control of Marc Technologies. Such global affairs would not be comparable to Christmas!
“So!” Elena sat down at the table and clapped her palms, “I just remembered that my dad took the whole world in his hands,” the woman smiled slyly and winked at Marcus, “Will you help your beloved daughter get a few things out of turn?”
“Elena, what are you up to?” the man asked with worry in his voice. This girl reminded him more and more of Amelia, and Marcus no longer knew if this was good or bad.
“What do you mean, what? Today is Christmas Eve! And that means a family dinner! We have very little time left, we need to have time to prepare everything. I’m sure David decorated the house. We will now deal with the gifts, and they will be delivered just in time for our arrival! Do you have Armand’s phone? You must definitely call him! This spiteful person all the time knew that I was your daughter, and said nothing to me!”
“Um honey, I’m not sure this is a good idea. You may not be aware, but our last meeting did not end in the most friendly way.”
“You mean when you wanted to kill Nick, but almost killed me in front of everyone?” Elena clarified and, with a relaxed smile on her lips, waved her hand, “Don’t worry. There are more serious problems than such an easy misunderstanding.”
“And still-”
“Oh, I didn’t tell you! It’s very good that you didn’t do anything to Nick because this boy is my son Sean. Only from the future. Amazing, right?”
For such information Marcus was not ready at all. Absolutely.
They found nothing on this guy, who appeared out of nowhere and pretended to be who he was not. From the first meeting, this Nick was not normal. Marcus knew this immediately from his aura. But the man would never have thought that the guy was from the future.
“Well? Now my offer doesn’t look so strange anymore?” Elena leaned across the table towards Marcus, tilted her head slightly to the side and narrowed her eyes, “Aren’t you interested to know what should happen and what will happen after, huh?”
“It’s true? That he is Sean from the future?” The life of Marcus and his family was far from the concept of the life of an ordinary person. But to meet a person from the future? It was too much. On the other hand, not so unrealistic for their situation.
“More than,” the woman winked, got up from the table and walked to the man’s back. Elena bent down, hugged Marcus by the neck and whispered in his ear, “I heard your desire. You won’t deny me my desire, will you? After all, this is my first Christmas in six thousand years.”
She kissed the man on the cheek and, without saying anything more, left the living room.
