The Only Delicacy - Chapter 47
Chapter 47
As more days passed by, Scarlet could not help but think of how odd things had become. As a matter of fact, it became odder than before.
“Um.. I can go on my own.” Scarlet politely declined as she faced these three hard-to-understand people. Up until now, aside from her mother, she had never met people who were this difficult.
“It’s alright, Scarlet-chan! You’re my best friend, so why should I not go? A girl must never go by herself, because we never know what danger lies ahead! Don’t worry, don’t worry! I’m not only doing this for you, but for myself too! I want to go with you!” Amanda sweetly replied with a lovely smile that could captivate men wherever she went.
“No. How about you stay here and we go instead? You don’t need to come with us.” Darkness surrounded Kevin as he replied with a menacing yet dazzling smile that meant, ‘Get lost! You’re not needed here. You’re just a hindrance.’
Small veins also popped out of Kyle’s forehead as he openly ignored the noisy witch who had never failed to keep her innocent and lovely facade. Many days had already passed by and that witch kept doing as she pleased, which was bothering them non-stop. For this type of people-pleasing and fake person, the best thing that he thought he should do would be to leave all the troublesome matters to his brother.
Anyway, that person was his brother’s classmate in the first place. Furthermore, it was his brother’s fault for being so friendly with females.
‘This ought to be his first lesson,’ Kyle secretly snickered at his brother’s misfortune.
It absolutely did not have anything to do with him.
When she had heard Kevin’s reply, Amanda more sweetly replied, “That won’t do, Kevin-kun! If you go, then I need to go too!”
Amanda obviously never noticed Kevin’s menacing smile or the dark aura clouding around him. She just thought of how she should go in order to protect her dear darlings from that trash, which were entirely different to her reasoning just now.
She had to burn that trash to teach that slut a lesson!
Amanda secretly let out a wicked smile.
Sadly, now was not yet the time.
Before Kevin could unleash the roaring and angry beast within and before Kyle could notice the strange and evil aura coming from Amanda, Scarlet walked past them in less than a blink of an eye and went towards her desired destination, because she could clearly see that reason did not work with these peculiar people.
Reasoning with them was like reasoning with a bunch of cavemen. That was the first thing she had learned after many hardships and struggles.
Right then, everyone abandoned their thoughts and obediently followed after Scarlet.
As they followed after her, Kevin sent out sparks to Amanda who seemed to remain perfectly unaffected. Instead, Amanda seemed elated at Kevin’s first initiative to catch her attention, so she sweetly smiled at him and never realized that she had made him angrier to the point that he sent even more lightning bolts to jolt her.
Unfortunately, these lightning bolts landed to several innocent and unlucky victims again. Amanda was completely immune to Kevin’s death stare for many reasons.
All this while, Kyle rolled his eyes and ignored these pair of idiots. He merely stayed beside his beloved to protect her beautiful eyes from seeing that strange scene. If his brother gave up and went after that two-faced Amanda, Kyle would be more than happy to oblige at the thought of less rivals. Unfortunately, he knew his brother too well like an alphabet.
Meaning, that would never happen, even after the day his brother died.
This became another starting point of how everything had changed.
Every time Scarlet wanted to escape from their tight hold by walking around during break time, Amanda and the twins would always accompany her without failure. She did not know why they would try so hard to please her, when in fact, she did not need them to go through all that trouble. Rather, she would prefer if they did not go through that trouble at all, because doing those kind of things would only increase her burdens and embarrassment.
As days passed by and as the same events played like an endless cycle, Scarlet felt like a prisoner, perfectly monitored with her every move.
Moreover, not only were these three people watching her every move, every student around her seemed to be studiously staring at her with sparkly eyes and expectant faces. She also noticed some annoyed gazes directed towards Amanda, some sympathizing gazes directed towards the twins and a lot of envious and hopeful gazes directed towards their whole odd group.
Scarlet also heard some strange comments like, ‘The ship has sailed and a storm was coming.’ Obviously there weren’t any ships or storms around, so it must be news from a different country, she thought. She also heard the same words like last time, ‘Goddesses, Bosses, idols, idiot” and other terms which made her even more confused.
These entirely different terms could not possibly be connected, right?
Even as she had tried so hard to find the answer, Scarlet found nothing. They frequently watched her every move for no particular reason and of course, she was clueless as to how things had ended up this way.
When did she start becoming this popular that people would go all the way to watch her every move and try to be her friend?
‘No, that’s impossible.’ Scarlet shook her head and thought as she recalled the past events.
When did she become narcissistic enough to think that she was popular? She was simply unlucky enough to become the victim for these turn of events, not popular.
However, if this was one of the responsibilities of friendship, then she should stop complaining about every small detail and obediently accept the changes.
One time when Scarlet wanted to go to the restroom, the three cavemen followed after her without fail. Of course, once she had arrived, the twins had no choice but to reluctantly wait outside. They did not forget to send a menacing and warning glance towards Amanda, strong enough to make a girl cry from first glance. However, Amanda only sweetly smiled back in response, because she was too blind with happiness to even discern their hidden meaning.
Amanda felt elated that both of the twins were trying to catch her attention. Yes, this ought how things should be in the beginning. They should be focusing at the true princess, not the trash.
As Scarlet went inside the cubicle to finish her business, Amanda sweetly talked to her from outside the cubicle’s door.
“Ne, Scarlet-chan~! We have always been best friends, right~?” Amanda asked in a very adorable manner, as if she was a puppy that was very unwilling to be abandoned.
When she had heard that, Scarlet kept silent and hastily finished her business in order to escape. She had already made friends with the twins, since making friends with Kevin was literally the same as accepting Kyle as a friend, which was another consequence of her stupid and abrupt decision. If she made more friends than them, she might not last any longer.
Yes, it was her dream to have friends and she was happy to have them. However, adding Amanda to the list was asking for way too much from both her strength and her exhausted mind. She did not have the time or the capacity to please a lot of people and she also did not want more debts to accumulate when her debts were already way past her capacity to reimburse.
Hence, before Amanda could say anymore to make her feel worse or guilty, Scarlet stealthily went out of the restroom and brisk-walked back to the classroom, with the twins immediately following after her while not caring for Amanda who was left behind. Scarlet did not know how to deal with this kind of drama that occurred within the movies, so that was the only solution that she could think of. If she had watched more movies, perhaps she would be able to get some decent solutions out of them.
At that moment, Scarlet learned to never use the school’s restroom again. If she had no choice but to use it, then she should use all means to escape from these cavemen’s clutches!
Meanwhile, inside the restroom, Amanda threw away her entire faade and revealed a very menacing aura. She gritted her teeth until her gums bled and blood flowed down her mouth. She clenched her knuckles so tightly that bones could almost be seen. Most of all, she revealed such a wicked smile, wicked enough that all loveliness in it was gone.
Once that scary smile was paired with her bloody teeth and a maximum killing intent, Amanda seemed more terrifying than a measly witch.
If that trash would not fall to her palms, then Amanda would not be pathetically dispirited. Instead, she felt very excited that her blood boiled until it could burst. She licked her lips and excitedly awaited the day of that trash’s doom.
After that event, Scarlet noticed that Amanda seemed to be even more persistent than before, making her more exhausted. As long as there was no harm, how could she refuse her? That would only make her even guiltier.
Hence, time passed by with the three cavemen and a lot of students watching her every move. But, why did she feel like there were even more people watching her, even as she went home alone? She felt like she was watched by both supernatural beings and humans.
Of course, Scarlet regarded it as her imagination again. Since she did not feel any killing intent, she placed that thought at the back of her mind. She was too exhausted to think. As a person who spent most of her time napping, working and being alone, the burden was quite big and hard to handle.
Moreover, ever since the time she got hurt on both of her elbows, Scarlet noticed that her job had been relatively easier than before. In fact, it became easier to the extent that she only had to spare several hours for that mission to be accomplished. Sometimes, it only even took her an hour, which she never thought was possible until now. Furthermore, she never got an injury once, so she never visited the clinic again.
Of course, Scarlet still remembered that old nurse and her debt towards her, so she vowed to visit her again once she was able to pay back her debt.
However, she could not help but ponder on how things had ended up this way again. How come her missions were getting easier and faster to handle? Did she achieve another break through without realizing it? Or did a high being finally see through all her struggles and blessed her with a less misfortunate life?
Regardless of the cause, Scarlet stopped making things complicated and became simply happy. She could now sleep for exactly 8 hours or more daily, which was something to celebrate about!
Before she knew it, three years passed by in a blink of an eye.
