The Opportunity System - Chapter 4 Hunter

Two days passed since Hiro paid goodbye to Raugh.

“I’m lucky there’s a lake here.”

He was not used to walk nonstop for hours, so every three hours, he would stop to rest. This made his journey more difficult, as the supplies were in the end and it was not even in the third day.

Even though he walked for two days, he still was in the forest. What Raugh said was true, he still has at least five days to walk, until he was out of the forest.

In the time he was resting, he used the time to investigate the HUD.

“What is this ‘seven levels stored’ thing?”

He tried to select it through the mind.

“Huh? I can level up?”

After he selected the option, he had two choices, accept or not.

“Yes!”

Accepting the level up, nothing visible happened.

Suddenly, inside him, something started to burn.

“What is this burning feeling? All my muscles, my bones, my skin…”

Hiro’s appearance didn’t have any change, the change occurred inside him.

“I feel invincible! This is incredible!”

Testing his new power, he hit a dry tree and the tree broke, while a normal person’s hand would be hurt, Hiro’s fist was not even red from the hit.

“My strength and resistance were upgraded, what other things upgraded with it?”

He decided to test his speed.

“Let’s….go!”

Thinking that he would be like The Fl#sh, he ran, but then he discovered that his running speed didn’t change that much.

Disappointed, he stopped.

“If this system had a status bar…”

Thinking about the system, he remembered the grey options.

“I leveled up, so the grey options should have unlocked, right?”

Entering the HUD again, he found that there was one option that was grey before.

‘Point Distribution: Auto(OFF); Manual(ON);’

“There you are! After the level up, it has to be points to distribute.”

After the happiness from finding the points, the depression from not knowing how to use them came.

“Where do I put them?”

Having no idea on how to use them, he searched on the list again.

“Found it.”

There was another option cleared:

“Does it mean that I have more status to unlock? What type of status are there other than the basics?”

Putting the new things aside, the resting time was over. The food was scarce, he had only for today.

Seeing that he would not have enough food for the next day, Hiro decided to find more. The only problem was his current location, in a dead forest, where he could find food?

There was no animal, no plants, only dried trees.

Actually, there are some animals in the forest, but they are snakes or rats, animals that commonly live in stealth.

Time passed, and now Hiro had nothing to eat for two days.

Weakness and tiredness were only the basic problems now.

Luckily, Hiro could find lakes of varied sizes, so he didn’t die of dehydration.

The situation was serious, the dry forest was too big, with no life.

Hiro was desperate, he never went through this type of situation. He misses his mom’s food, the school lunch, the snacks from the convenience store.

Suddenly, ahead of him, he saw three hares, one was black and the others were white. Seeing them approaching, he realized that they were enormous, the size of a big dog.

Holding the knife handle, Hiro prepared himself to eat them. He was not afraid, even though they were bigger than your average bunny.

The hares were making a scary face, but Hiro was not afraid. The two white hares were the first to attack, they used their claws to attack him. Hiro, with his strength and agility upgraded, avoided the attack while counter-attacking them with the knife.

He hit one of the white hares in the head, piercing it’s head. Angry with it’s bunny buddy’s death, it bit into Hiro’s left arm.

“Argh!”

Blood flooded from his arm, seeing the wound, finally, fear aroused inside him. Everyone would feel fear seeing three giant hares, but his hunger was like greed, it ignored all danger.

Even though there was a lot of blood, he didn’t feel much pain, it could be adrenaline or his status’ changes.

The white hare was looking at him showing it’s teeth.

“Hares should not be carnivorous!”

Gripping his knife, Hiro advanced against the white hare, it was ready to fight, too.

All this time, the black hare, which was the smallest of the three, was just observing the dog-fight.

Suddenly, it decided to help.

With no time to react, Hiro was caught by surprise, he forgot about the black one.

‘Hiro, kill the white one quickly and use it as a shield. Then, stab the black in it’s neck.’

“Damn it, a little bit late, but I can use this chance.”

Positioning the knife in the white’s neck, Hiro waited until the time was normal again. He was doing it because, within the frozen space, he couldn’t deal any damage, he could just move.

When time turned back normal, the white hare was in attack mode, it’s momentum was great, so, the knife stabbed easily in it’s neck. The black one was shocked, he saw Hiro in one place, and one second later, he was killing it’s friend.

Although the black hare was shocked, it didn’t stop. It was faster than the other two, reaching them in the blink of an eye.

Hiro made as instructed, he lifted the white hare to use as a shield. The black hare used it’s claws to rip the white hare in half.

Hiro didn’t expect that it would cut it’s friend in half, he dropped the meat shield and used the knife to stab the black hare in it’s jugular.

The black hare stopped moving.

After the fight, Hiro couldn’t use his left arm, therefore, he struggled to take those hare bodies and close his wound.
